They really don't like it when you steal their eggs, but you have to anyway as they lay them in the winter and they freeze solid. But they always act super aggressive/defensive when one is in the nest.
As someone who is very easily overstimulated by loud noise, I have to hide my feelings daily about how upsetting the high pitched screams of children are for me to hear. I would have honestly left and come back later in the day than sit through that for more than a couple minutes. It’s way too much for me personally.
Actually, the bad guys were on vultures, the good guys on ostriches, yeah. But yes, everything was magic and could hold up a person, so why not an emu? Lol
That bird is having an awful day. It is freaking out, but it has nowhere to retreat to, and those kids are shrieking, making it worse. Really irresponsible for whoever set this thing up, they are not in control at all.
It looks to me that the bird is afraid, I think maybe there are too many people in there with it at the same time... I say this with the confident of a random person on the internet with no relevant education or even experience.
I think that's the funniest part is that it's not even leaving or attacking the children, though really does seem like does it has to understand the effect on what it is REPEATLY doing. ha ha
Every generation will have trauma and the criteria will change with the times. Few decades ago it was the guilt of having to turn your own sister into stew, next gen is gonna be in therapy from gentle parenting

When raised well they tend to be rather peaceful birds- this one just craved chaos and got the zoomies, but wasn't harmful about it. The mock-charge and dodging is just how they play. If you look closer, the one child that falls actually just drops themselves straight dowb. The bird got close but never actually knocks them down.
You're right. It's been so long since I've worked with both emus and ostriches- but rheas look more like ostriches with skinny necks and lighter, thinner beaks.
Those parents need to pick those kids up and set them on the other side of the fence. Everyone is terrified here, and that situation could have been fixed pretty quickly.
I feel more bad for the Emu. Poor guy looks incredibly stressed out with that many screaming running around children in a small pen. Also if it decided to flip out and try to jump the fence or something it could hurt itself very badly.
