At the end of Alien, Ripley ejects the alien into space using a grappling gun, but the gun is caught when the shuttle door closes, allowing the alien one last chance to claw its way back.
At the start of Aliens, when the salvage crew discover the shuttle adrift and cut their way in, you can see the grappling pistol still caught in the door 57 years later.
In the Director's Cut, an aspect of Ripley's life is shown which wasn't in the theatrical release. In Alien she was on her last job for Weyland Yutani because she had a young daughter at home she wanted to raise.
However when she's rescued and awakened from cryo-sleep, she learns her daughter has passed away, leaving her grief-stricken.
The woman portraying her daughter in the photo is Sigourney Weaver's real life mother Elizabeth.

The scene with Burke in the nest is not in the directors cut. It’s a deleted scene that didn’t make it back in.

I'm glad it wasn't added back in, honestly. It really slows down what's otherwise a frantic descent to save Newt. Add in that with that scene she gives him a grenade to blow himself up, which while it fits what Ripley might do, it's a loud explosion as she's otherwise trying to be a bit stealthy. Plus I don't see Burke being brave enough to actually follow through with it.

It really does fuck with the pacing and is better off left as trivia rather than part of that cut. The DC is already a hefty 2.5 hours, and that is a ~45 second scene that doesn’t add enough to warrant its inclusion.

Nah, that worked for Battlestar and West World, but we don't need that in Aliens universe. Also unless they gave it real blood it would be pretty hard to disguise the fact that it wasn't really human from itself and others.

Though it's not an emotionally important scene, I feel that the Director's Cut turret scenes make the marines out to be more competent while also making the xenomorphs more aggressive and intelligent.

My headcanon is that 3 and resurrection were just dreams as they slept in cryo.
Also try to see the Assembly cut of Alien 3. It’s leagues better than the theatrical version, mostly by giving character and intellect to the prisoners so they’re not just a horde of bald cannon fodder.

3 IS a cryodream, I refuse to believe otherwise. And resurrection never happened at all. For years I had only ever seen the Assembly cut and didn't understand why there was so much hate for 3. I mean sure, it's not nearly as good as 1 and 2... then I finally saw the theatrical cut and it became really clear to me.

There's an underrated vampire film called "Near Dark" (1987). Lance Henrikson, Bill Paxton and Jenette Goldstein (Vasquez) play 3 of the main vampires. One of their victims is a biker in a bar played by Danny Kopel, who also played the biker who puts his cigar out on Arnie at the start of Terminator 2

The book was called The Children of the Sea in the USA but in the UK its still on Amazon with its original title, which is weird as even around 1897 when the book was published it was criticized as "the ugliest conceivable title".
