Ok that's brilliant

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sweet. The timeline on that. Given that homo sapiens is about 300,000 years old, and the Grand Canyon about 5 to 6 million. Though they also had dinosaurs in the Flintstones, so I am down with the reference.

Regular visitor to the Grand Canyon here… I swear, SWEAR, every time I am there, it is impossible to not think about this Flintstones moment.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'll be there in the next week or so, and this will be playing on loop in my head.

Celebrating Christmas before the birth of Christ...

IIRC they knew they were counting down to something big, they just weren't sure what.

The Flintstones owned this home and a car on a single salary from a husband working at Slate Rock and Gravel

5 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Wilma was a SAHM for a single child (Pebbles). Flintstones had a large breed pet (Dino). They also had all major appliances (also pet-like).

Betty Rubble won the Sexist Cartoon Award for years, followed by Blondie Bumstead as a close second.

The weirdest thing about this is that it would be an larger river then it started as in large then the stream but it would just be another river not an tourist attraction.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Before the Great Flood that is what Fundamentalists claim...

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Grand Canyon was about 5 or 6 million years old by the time Stone Age people reached the Americas, so it would have been geologically practically identical to its current appearance, so this joke makes no sense. On the other hand the Flintstones also shows dinosaurs and humans together so it's not exactly scientifically rigorous at all.

5 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

'.......it's not exactly scientifically rigorous...' Drumpf's logic.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

This is actually documentary evidence of Homo hannabarbarii, an obscure hominid species only fully described in the 1960s.

I think I heard the show was intended to be a cartoon targeted at mature audiences.

5 months ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

Created primarily to promote cigarettes

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn those smooth Winstons

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Modeled after the Honeymooners iirc. Watched it a ton as a kid. Yabba dabba dude I’m old.

5 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Well, you could've watched it as a rerun

Cartoons didn't become "for kids" until the 80's, when companies realized they could make bank on cartoon toy merch.

Sponsored by a cigarette company

5 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

They even did animated ads for the company: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqdTBDkUEEQ

Was this really an episode? Because it's hilarious if it is.

5 months ago | Likes 326 Dislikes 1

It was a pretty short episode if it was.

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It was! Wilma said "so thats the grand canyon hug.. doesn't look like much. " and Fred replied "not now, hut they expect it to be a big thing some day!"

It was a pterodactyl; so, not so much a 'craft' as a 'mount'

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Look like an ‘Okay’ Canyon to me.

5 months ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Yep. Sure was

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is, I saw a rerun of it many, many moon cycles ago.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

it's absolutely the level of humor of the show, one way or the other

5 months ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

yes it was, I remember watching this episode. Yes I am old

5 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

So you are saying, you are almost as old as the grand canyon?

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

how far back in time are the flintstones set? XD

5 months ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 3

It actually takes place the same time as The Jetsons

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In one episode they talked about seeing the movie “Two Million Years B.C.”, which was all about life in the future.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I heard it was set simultaneously with the Jetsons

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No, but there was a crossover episode between the 2

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're a modern Stone Age family.

Following this theory... it meant the earth experienced an event that filled-up the Grand Canyon. Things have settled. Life is rebounding. And the Grand Canyon 2.0 is just starting to receed again.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The truth the government doesn't want you to know!!!

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The Jetsons was set in 2062 and George was 40 so he would've been born 4 years ago.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Ignoring the evolutionary inconsistencies, The Grand Canyon was formed between 5-6 million years ago. In the human evolutionary timeline,

5 months ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

This would put it close to common ancestor split between modern chimps and humans which is close to 6-7 million years; think Ardipithecus

5 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Damn science yoinks the fun outta mindless cartoons again! Appreciate your answer the more you know

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So around the time the straight of gibraltar opened up and flooded what is now the mediterranean sea. Neat.

5 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Hey I just learned about that from that red haired lady!

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Dr Hannah Fry! Been a fan of hers for years, shes pretty great.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

She's a pip!

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

yeah I understand how it doesnt come across well sometimes as text but I wasnt really serious in asking that XD

5 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

There’s no answer to that. The setting had aspects from history that were 100 million years apart.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well they didn't know them in the biblical sense, we had to wait for Bad Dragon to come along

5 months ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

Give it time. Someday people will get their Jurassic Waifus.
