It's so bizarre because the majority of his followers in the United States are not Catholic. Whatever branch of Christianity he fake claims to be is not Catholic. Only 20% of the US is Catholic, almost entirely in the North East of the country. A lot of American Protestants like to frequently (and bizarrely) claim that Catholics aren't even Christian. So, why in the world, are they so obsessed with the Pope?

I think there's just a serious lack of education and general knowledge base in the US that many actually erroneously think the Pope somehow "rules" all of Christianity? Protests will achieve nothing. You have to fix voter suppression, gerrymandering (no way to fix in short term), voter turnout, and obviously you need to register a ton of new voters.
Another avenue would be register in mass numbers as a republican as a fake. But start blasting your local elected Republicans and make them do something.
The resistance needs to come from within the GOP
