There was a time when I was a competent tree faller and felt very confident in my ability to rig a big one and drop it where I wanted. These days, not so much and I have a bunch that need to be dropped. Watching these guys makes me think they're just showing off.

Its mostly dead anyway, only the outer layer lives. It is why you can craft the bark + roots into strange shapes and have it "grow" furniture still allive (or just weave still alive willows)

This is so funny!! When I was 18 (40yrs ago) and undecided I took a 3 hour test to find out what job I was best suited for. My 1st "most achievable goal" was lumberjack. I'm a 5ft. city dwelling female, 120 lbs at my heaviest and had taken every class centered around office management.

Pretty sure its not. the numbers become complicated when the job has multifaceted titles and risks. I remember reading an article that accounted for it and it said that "oil &/or gas" industry welders helpers/roustabouts is the most dangerous job in the US and I absolutely believe it. Ive known of 5 local deaths in separate incidents that meet clarification

The clarification being the three separate jobs oil/gas, iron worker, and roustabout. it's like the opposite of how pitbulls are technically different species but since pits are a mutt like breed, their lethal attack deaths is recorded as being far higher than it really is because pitbull is just an umbrella term that covers 5 different species and people aren't capable of telling the difference so pits gain the title of killing the most per year 2/2

Interesting point. I think you ment to say "breed" rather than "species." One characteristic of a "species" is that they cannot reproduce with others of their kind. Since pitbulls are able to produce viable offspring with other breeds of dogs, they are of the same species. As for lumberjacks, you make a good point. I was referring to the a study based on two sources other than the one posted here. All three agreed. So I suspect there is a specific methodology being used. Insurance data perhaps?
