One of my dream is to see everything there is to see in the US

Since I was a kid, I always loved the US. My first trip there was when I was 11 in the early 90s. I saw Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California. It was fantastic. I was a huge fan of WWF (the Hulk Hogan one, not the panda, even though I love pandas as well), Disney and Batman. It was like a dream. I planned many times coming back but I couldn't until I started to make real money for myself. I came back 5 times, visiting many States. I am lucky enough to be engaged to an Arizonan girl who shares the same traveling passion (I met her on Imgur guys! :D).

We have decided 2 trips ago to see everything there is to see. I have 7 weeks paid vacations at my work, which helps a lot. In the past months, I've been "working" on some road trips projects. Here is what I got so far, the US in 18 two-weeks-or-less road trips. I thought it would be cool to share with you guys, it could inspire or help people. Also, feel free to give some tips about your State if I missed something important!

We already did 2 of these trips. This is a long term project.

Our next one will the the Nebraska/Dakota one. In fact, it will be the first part of our honeymoon next year.

Hawaii

Hawaii can't really be considered as a road trip. It would be more a succession of expensive boat trips and days at the beach. The best to do going there would be to take an all inclusive tour with some operators.

Thanks for stopping by and happy browsing!

I realise we barely touched Ohio and Nebraska. Changes can be made, no trip is final until we get there.

Good luck with the manbuns in Portland.

Northeast: take an extra hour and go to ptld, me. Portland headlight is a must.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

OK, that seems reasonable. We will add it!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lots of time in Louisville... But no mention of distilleries (unlike your TN trip). If you're interested in distilleries, then be sure 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

To include the KY Bourbon Trail (kybourbontrail.com).

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I haven't dug as much for Kentucky yet as for some other States. I will for sure though! That sounds great, thanks!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hell no, skip sea world!

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Why that? I've been there 6 years ago and it was quite good (but pricey). I loved the rays, penguins and otters!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Watch Blackfish

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, some people told me in other comments. We will pass

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a lot of Northern California that is too beautiful to simply drive through.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What would you advise?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Napa, Muir Woods

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, we really need to see the Napa Valley

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see you chose to drive all the way around lake michigan rather than drive through Gary. As a region rat, good call, man. Good call.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

TIL. Thanks :)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey! My brothers from the Gary area!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Our condolences.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

St. Louis do City Museum (its more of a playground) and try Imos pizza. You may not like it, but its our thing. Feel free to PM for STL.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thank you! We will! and we will try Imos. You should come with us!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd love to if I'm in town! Might be heading to see more of the US my self. Born and raised in STL, but it's about time for adventures.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Exactly :) Home will always be there

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also do the zoo/grants farm

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Go on top of the Arch. It's a great view of the city!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh we will! Thanks

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On your trip through Wisconsin, buy a 6 pack of New Glarus Spotted Cow. Best beer in the Nation.

11 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

In Wisconsin*

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

On a 2nd note, they do need to export that out of state. Everytime I see family from there they bring me a few cases

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A liquor store in MN snuck some across the border and started selling it. Got caught though.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Many told us to do so, we will, for sure!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you are in Wisconsin in the summer you should take a small detour to Wisconsin Dell's and devil's lake.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sounds fun! Thanks, we will!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I haven't talked to anyone else that has even heard of it where I'm from. Spotted Cow is absolutely amazing.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We really need to try it! Thanks

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

OP, when in N.Texas make sure you check out the Kimbell and Modern museums. The Kimbell alone is worth it for the architecture.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We did this trip already but I'll add it to the list, if we ever go back or if we can help people! Thank you

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't forget about the Stockyards north of Fort Worth!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You only went to Chicago in Illinois? There's not much here, but there's the Lincoln stuff in Springfield and the Virginia Theater in...

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Champaign, which is where Roger Ebert liked to watch plays and movies. There's a brass statue of him outside it

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks. We can definitely add a couple of days in Illinois

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You should also go to a certain Verizon store in Champaign so as I can meet a fellow imgurian.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We would love to! We met about 25 Imgurians during our last trip. We love it!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yay!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bloomington has a great History Museum (super cheap, too) and there are alot of cool Lincoln/Civil War facts there.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's awesome, we will try to include it

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Be sure to stop in Grand Rapids MI! Its about 20 minutes from the lake and its Beer City USA 3 years in a row! Let me know if you decide to

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You peeps should join the Michigurians group on facebook

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh we will before getting there, thanks!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Represent beer city!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, don't forget Kalamazoo, 45 min south!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you! Beer as well?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a bar called beer exchange where prices work like stock market pricing with spikes and falls, cool stuff!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also, Bell's Brewery!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I heard about such place, I really should go!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Beer city? I'm in!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Michigan is amazing in the summertime! I live in GR/Holland and the beach is a great place to spend the day. :)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh yes, we would go around summertime I think. Maybe September to avoid (some of) the tourists

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes! September can be beautiful!!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you do the Lake Michigan tour in the fall, make sure to take the "Tunnel of Trees" scenic route from Petoskey to Mackinac City

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you, that will be included for sure!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*hoh rain forest

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sorry :)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was just being obnoxious. I wish it was a hot rainforest. Let me know when you go and I can show you around.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you so much! For now we know our 3 next trips, Dakota, NY and Michigan. Seattle could come next!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just go and skip Maine why don't you!!?!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Someone told that I would need to push way deeper inside the State to see anything interesting. What would you recommend?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you have the time go up the coast to Acadia, I really recommend Rockland. And if you want a nice hike, mt Battie in Camden

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks! I'll have a look

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In Alaska, while you are in the Kenai fjords part of your trip, drive over to the Kenai/Soldotna area, and Homer. Especially Homer.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thank you very much! We will definitely follow your advice

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As someone who was born in Soldotna, I agree.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, I would take Homer, Kachemak Bay, and Seldovia over Resurrection Bay any day. Also, Skagway is down by Juneau, not Fairbanks

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So we will do it a bit later when she will have a more stable job

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you! I will definitely follow your advices. The Alaska trip is the one we want the most but it might get pricey real fast

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's some cool places in the southeast too (Ketchikan) but that's a bit off the road system. The best stuff in AK can't be got to by car.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Resurrection bay is only worth a day in my opinion

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@OP, you're missing Yellowstone National Park. You know with the geysers and supervolcano. When you come to your senses, hit me up

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

We included YEllowstone, no way we are going to miss it!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Go check again... It's under the Northern Utah, West Wyoming, Idaho, Western Montana one...

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Was going to say the same thing. Put it in your trip with glacier national park.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Defiantly make some time for Yosemite. You will not regret it.

11 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

If you're up by Yosemite, try going over to Redwoods National Park to drive along Avenue of the Giants. It's magnificent.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We will try, thank you!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree with this. Although Sequioa is awesome too, Yosemite definitely takes the cake

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We will try to do both, thanks!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yes, a few people told me that, as well as Lake Tahoe. I think we will.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Make sure some of your more northerly routes are taken towards the middle of summer. My wife and I had to miss out on some thing in our 1

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yosemite for sure. Spend a day there if you can and do a hike to one of the waterfalls, preferably not on a weekend (it gets crowded then).

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

oh yes, we try to avoid touristy things on weekends as much as possible! Thanks

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also if you want more current information on San Diego let me know. There's a lot of really neat stuff that's not on the tourist brochures.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's the main reason why we posted here. Yes, we are interested! Thanks

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

road trip across the US because the roads and entrances to parks were closed due to seasonal snow. This was towards the middle of May.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We will cross Dakota and Eastern Montana in June, will that be ok?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see you'll be in Louisville for about 4 days... good call gege ^_^

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

The ville is one of America's hidden gem cities

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, I'll have people to see ;)

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Lousivillian here, glad to see you'll be spending most of your time in Louisville since the rest of the state blows.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

damn straight

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Make sure to try Comfy Cow ice cream. So good and locally made.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Comfy Cow Ice Cream. I love this name. Yes, we need to try that!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gege'a Arizonan Fiancé here, thanks for the ideas guys ❤️

11 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

You guys will be missing the best parts of the UP :( looks fun though!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What should we add?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What time of year are you thinking? Summer you should check out Sault Ste. Marie but autumn you should def see Copper Harbor!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It would be in September

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You could go either way then! Sault Ste. Marie is more touristy and Cooper Harbor is more nature but both are more fun than just the coast:)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you forgot to put Austin on your list while you're in Texas.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

yeah, many of you guys were angry about it. We will add it, it looks great!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is there room for the Arizona MIL?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Mill avenue? Or something else?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Let me know when you guys are on Mill!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We should be there around the 20th May!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You should make a stop in Ashland, OR if you can. Home to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and one of the best food scenes in rural America.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Food? I'm in! What would you suggest?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's a lot of great places: Morning Glory for breakfast, Martino's Italian, Greenleaf's creekside dining, Brickhouse cocktails, etc.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can message you more suggestions about Ashland if you'd like. It turns your Lost Coast trip into an I-5 trip, though.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes please, I'd love it!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

<3

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

As a Richmond Virginia resident I can assure you that one day is not enough... between our art museums and our historical sites (1/?)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I will re-do each single map following every advices. Expect a V2 in a couple of months. Thanks!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Minnesota is awesome, throw Como Zoo and Gardens on your list for your Minneapolis Day (free and stunning). Don't go to SLC Utah on a Sunday

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks! we will add all of that

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You should stop in Ashland Oregon. It's beautiful

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We will check it out, thanks!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You will have a lot to encounter. Lots of civil war history here... but you can't skip Appomattox Virginia to see where it all ended

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm an History nerd and would love to see it, thanks!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where are you from ?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes, French here :)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He's from the south of France, but he lives in Ireland right now

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Floridian here. Please don't take the interstates. You miss a lot of Florida, and by taking highways you only lose about half an hour or so

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks. What would be the best itinerary?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depending on how you want to go, A1A is nice and parallels I-95, hit up the toll roads to avoid as much of I-4 as possible, I HATE that road

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, try this http://floridascenichighways.com/ and look for similar websites for other states. Dad and I drove L.A. to Tallahassee, Fl

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We went 1500 miles out of our way and wished we had gone more. It was glorious.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Go to Lawrence, KS as well.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

OK! We will!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Second. In fact, go there instead of Topeka.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Truth. Definitely better local pubs and restaurants.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Any recommendations?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you like Asian food I'd definitely rec Encore, assuming it's still around...but whatever you do, don't go to the Hawk.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But I'm serious about my offer to take you two out for BBQ if/ when you come to KC.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Which one will you take them too? If you say Joe's or Jack Stack this conversation is over.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you. We have met many Imgurians so far and it has always been a great experience. We are in!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#1 would definitely be Free State Brewery (great food and even better locally made beer). KC Smoke Burger is a close second.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Get the chips and queso at Free State.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Too bad you're gonna miss out on Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

11 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 0

THANK YOU! Lone Pine, Mammoth, Lake Tahoe, Auburn. Where are these stops?!?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In the second version of my maps I'll post in here after I will have processed the 800 posts you guys left me! Thank you so much :)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I meant I shouldnt skip it*

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Yes, I've been told I should skip lake Tahoe. We will change our trip to include it with Yosemite/Sierra Nevada

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Don't skip Lone Pine!!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ok! Thanks for the tip!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Whoever told you to skip lake Tahoe should be slapped in the face

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yes.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yosemite is amazing. One of my favorite places in CA

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Please add a part of the PCH (CA-1). I have been visiting from Sweden 3 times to see that. Best part between Carmel and Hearst Castle.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks, we will check this out!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

http://imgur.com/jEHLctC

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

wow... Even though I guess the camera helps a lot, that's really something I'd love to see!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Actually the camera greatly diminishes the beauty.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

honestly, that's really what it looks like.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I have a few pics I took a few months ago, wanna take a look? :)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yes please!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For Omaha - zoo is great. Papillion isn't much to see. Try Joslyn Art Museum, Durham Western Heritage Museum, Fontenelle Forest, Neale Woods

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Awesome suggestions, just moved to Omaha. From the Mojave desert in California. Also, I would suggest a few things for MN and Cali 1/?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For California, you're going to death valley check out Mt. Whitney, its the highest point in the contiguous united states and happens to 2/?

Be near the lowest point - death valley. For Minnesota, check out Itasca state park, its where the Mississippi begins. :) 3/3

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for your suggestions, we will see what we can include, I'll make a second version in a couple of months, time to process everything!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live near Omaha. 0rual makes very good suggestions.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yep. Papillion Lavista ain't worth your time, unless you want to check out some baseball.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I went to a game in Seattle, it was ok, I guess, a bit "boring" for me

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree with all of this! Oh, and the Old Market in general, but that'll get covered with the rest of those. The Zoo will be a full day.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Make sure you don't pass up a stop to the Hy-Vee at 78th and Cass. It's the best one in the city.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

OK, we will check it out! Thanks

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Great Chinese

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We do love Chinese food!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks! That sounds good! I will add everything to our map

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Mason City, Iowa has really amazing Frank Lloyd Wright houses all over, including a hotel you can stay in. (House on the Rock was on there)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, the Haymarket in Lincoln Nebraska is nice stop and the UNL campus is very nice.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you, we will check it out

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

::please go to the pretty part of Arkansas::....YES!! Good stuff OP.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Fifty Six has some awesome camping sites, but my heart is in Big Sky country!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What should we see there? :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They have some awesome cave diving in blanchard springs, and the campground itself is ridiculously beautiful

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh thanks! We will check it out

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We did this one 2 months ago. I loved it! Pleasantly surprised, Arkansas was so lovely!

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah it's pretty great here, and now we have Art museums!

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We have friends in Joplin Missouri, we might go back and spend some more time in Arkansas

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

For California, you do not need a full day for the Salton Sea. It'll take like 2 hours tops including travel if u can handle the smell so u

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And fuck sea world

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Should maybe plan stuff in palm springs like the aerial tram to the top of the mountain to hike n walk around.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It would include the drive from San Diego as well. We would definitely spend the rest of the day in Palm Springs. Thanks!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And fuck sea world

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also too much time in LA. If you're going to San Diego do yourself a favor and check out Sunrise Highway near Mt Laguna. You won't regret it

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Thanks! we will check it

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also in LA Jolla San Diego for $20 u can rent snorkel gear & life jacket to swim with leopard sharks. They're fishy eaters. Not dangerous

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow, that sounds awesome!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And apple pie in Julian!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Garden of the Gods isn't a day, it's an hour.

11 years ago | Likes 135 Dislikes 3

You're not doing it right then.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I trained at the Olympic Training Center that is near Garden of the Gods, worth a trip. Athletes from around the world are there!

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Unless you go hiking up the surrounding mountains looking for bears. Took me 4 or 5 hours.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We might go for a hike, yes!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Let all of us Colorado Spring-ians take a picture at GOG for OP

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We will!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's more of me out there?!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are lots of you !

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes but we would need to drive there and back to spend the last evening in Denver

11 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Drive up pikes peak. Way cooler than garden of the gods.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

drop by fort collins for some beer

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We ill be there in June :)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And to drink all the beer! Don't leave out fort Collins when you are in colorado. The beer is incredible! Left hand, new belgium, odells 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I got a few PM telling me to go to Fort Collins. We might be there in June!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I disagree! I can spend hours there! There is also Pikes Peak. The original train still goes up to the top and is pretty cool!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also Telluride is much prettier than Aspen and also check out the Sand Dunes on your way to Mesa Verde. Skip the 4 Corners

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks! We will check it out. The 4 corners is only a stop on the way. We went there last year, it was cool, we just spent an hour or less

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't see the point anymore. It's caged and you have to pay. The drive up is a littered highway. Also try Beau Jo's Pizza.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

no matter what gps/google says. Sometimes traffic in/around any of those major cities is going to take a few hours and right around 2/3

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1) You don't want to go to Virginia Beach while in Virginia? 2) Your trip around lake michigan is going to take a lot longer than 24hrs 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can easily hit up Garden of the Gods, 7 Falls and Cave of the Winds in a day.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice to know, thanks!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 funkwerks, I'm drooling and jealous.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You have no need to spend two days in Indianapolis. Trust me, I live there

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

By 2 I meant one to arrive at the airport, probably late in the day, and the next one to see the city

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hoover Dam is also not a whole day. Work in into your Vegas days... Also, spend some time in Flagstaff en route to Meteor Crater.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We would leave in the morning to the Dam and then drive to Utah in the same day to be ready for our next stop

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gotta go to pikes peak!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

many people recommended it, I guess it's glorious!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plenty of quick trips in the Springs. Cave of Winds, Seven Falls, Santas Workshop, Pikes Peak.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can't wait to get there. We will be in Denver in June. You all make it sound like Heaven on Earth

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Should of gone to the botanical gardens and look out mountain in denver

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, many people recommended it, we might!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

also, there is nothing in Rosswell, but do get to Carlsebad Caverns, absolutely amazing, if you are there in the summer plan on staying 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Roswell is badass, but it's not more than two hours' worth of exploring. UFO museum, Goddard tower, military academy, UFO McDonald's, done.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's the plan. Just a "pit stop" on our way to the North

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I highly suggest visiting the UFO museum. It's cheesy, but I had a blast there.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Roswell would just be a pit stop, nothing more. I've been to the caves already, I loved them, it was super interesting! I spent 4 hours

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

yeah, i brought my kids there this past summer. they are amazing, enjoy your trip, lemee know if you have any questions, I love in Colorado

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

live in colorado that was supposed to say, but I guess 'love in colorado' is also true :)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2 till sunset for the bat flight. You can easily spend a full day at the Caverns. Enjoy!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's always NMMI

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Chicago you're going to be screwed, time-wise. Avoid large cities=save time. Actually see anything= even more time required. Sorry :/ 3/3

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We were planing a good 4-5 days to go around the lake, we wouldn't rush it! We might only spend 1 full day in Chicago

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Awesome :) I think I got confused with your google trip times and your schedule then :) good luck w/ your trip!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's only an hour from Denver, while you are in the area consider the 'Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.' One of the best I've ever been too

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It's not as great as everyone says it is, to be honest... I grew up in San Diego, sure, but it's not really got a whole hell of a lot.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It used to, but is no longer a breeding zoo. So they basically have a bunch of giraffes. The last time I went it was sad

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How long ago did you go? I went a couple of years ago and was disappointed. Still love the meer cats!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Also check out Cave of the Winds and the Wolf Sanctuary, awesome stuff!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We will, thanks!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cheyenne mountain, like in Stargate? We love zoos, we will def go there!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes. this is me and a giraffe there http://imgur.com/79trCPi and the giraffe feeding platform http://imgur.com/CwfrkOX

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A GIRAFFE FEEDING PLATFORM!!!! OK, Sold, we go there

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure that's Mahali, but I could be wrong.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As for denver, DEFINITELY check out union station. Absolutely beautiful

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you, we will!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do they still have the Skytop Lounge Observation car there?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I believe that's in Milwaukee, never heard anything about it being in Denver

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There was one there in 1991 when i visited there on vacation. Loved the museum in Greeley.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not the biggest fan of Colorado Springs, but I recommend going to Pikes Peak and taking the Cog Railroad to the top.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Haha did you live in COS at one point

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you! Just googled it, it looks like something we would love to do!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cog railway is absolutely fantastic. Some of the best views in colorado

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't take the COG Railroad, you get way bettter views driving up yourself.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're gonna need 2 days for Disneyland in Anaheim. Skip Cupertino, it's shit and the Apple campuses are off limits to tourists. 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I work for Apple, I can get in just using my badge

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Neat! Ate you going to wait until the new campus is finished to visit?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, I would love to see it!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I typically spend at least 3 days in Disneyland, there is too much to do and the crowds are getting worse every year.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

For real. Also more expensive.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Plus Oakland and Berkeley are way cooler and much closer to SF. OR stop in Healdsburg/Calistoga/Napa and drink the best wine in the world.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I love Napa wines but as a French person, I beg to differ :P But yes, I should def do that! Thank you

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

French wine was (in some cases still is) the standard & really the only competition for Napa area. Nothing beats a true Châteauneuf-du-Pape

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you like dessert wines, try to get a Loupiac or even better, a gewurztraminer

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have to visit the Atlanta Aquarium, Whale sharks!!! also when you're in Milwaukee you should try AJ Bombers, really good burgers

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Philly zoo is pretty cool too. Super small, but they have the hanging trails for certain animals. Also the muetter museum is pretty cool

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If we can add it to the schedule, we will. The NY/Philly trip is the busiest

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea, I thought I could do all of it in a week. Missed out non central park zoo and a bunch of other stuff

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I might skip a few thing in NY as well. Or squeeze Moma and Natural history in the same morning? Choices will be made!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice! We love good burgers and aquariums! Both will be added to our lists, thank you!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Remember that us Wisconsinites love our beer! Check out New Glarus brewery, just south of Madison, if you have the time :)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yeah I noticed that in the comments :P thanks :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In Atlanta get the City Pass. Gets you into the aquarium and world of coke, among other places. All at a discount.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, we will get city passes for all big ones. The NYC one saved my life

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also in Atlanta you should check out the world of Coke and the Martin Luther King home.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We will, thank s:)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also Lakefront Brewery in Milwaukee has a fantastic tour!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

thank you, we will check it out

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would spend one more day in Savannah and one less day in Atlanta. There's not a ton to see in Atlanta as a tourist.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I second this

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, we will do that. Should we do anything Walking Dead related in Atlanta or it's just a trap?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I couldn't say, as I've never watched the show. Common attractions are Aquarium, World of Coke, CNN Center, Stone Mountain, Skyview.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

MLK House, Carter Center, Margaret Mitchell House, there's some civil war battle sites nearby but I've never visited them.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you very much. We will make a more detailed plan for Atlanta

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thats about all I can think of. Lived here 8 years and always have a hard time thinking of things to do with visiting family.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live in Atl. I can tell you some good food if you tell me what you like.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please do! Thanks :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Arepa Mia- traditional Venezuelan arepas. Cafe Bombay- great Indian food. Queen of Sheba- Ethiopian. Elder Tree- gastro pub.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Saigon Cafe- Vietnamese. Athens Pizza- Greek. The Vortex- fun burger joint. Tin Lizzys- cheap Tex-Mex fusion.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Iberian Pig (tapas). Hankook Taqueria (Korean tacos). Love Letter Chicken (Korean Fried Chicken)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Choosing will be the hardest part now

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do yourself a favor, skip Bollywood, go to Ashville, NC, and then take 25 to Greenville, SC. From there, hit 85 to Charlotte.

11 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 2

I was gonna say -- skip GA, stay in NC and go to Asheville for a bit.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We will make it to Asheville for sure! So many good comments about it

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And Cape Hatteras>Myrtle Beach.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Blue Ridge Parkway!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

ok! thanks :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Go to Asheville if you enjoy hipsters and street bands. The mustard and brew is decent too.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Asheville mustard? I need to try that!

Ikr why anyone would stop in Charlotte instead of Raleigh 8s beyond me

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a foreigner I never heard about Raleigh. What would you advise there?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would definitely recommend hitting up bars at night near the NC state campus everyone is really friendly!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But the most awesome thing to do is attend a basketball game at any of the big three UNC, NC State or Duke perferably

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A game where 2 of the big three are played against each other all three have been here a long time and there rivalry is legendary

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would definitely recommend hitting up bars at night near the NC state campus everyone is really friendly!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agree with FPOD. Asheville is an awesome place. Great food, great beer, scenic as hell. Then come to Charleston and se me

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

We will! we love to meet Imgurians!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Asheville FTW...source, live in Charlotte and go often.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

yes, we will get there for sure!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I haven't mentioned this to my wife yet, but i think we would be willing to open our home in huntersville to you guys for a night?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That would be so kind of you guys! Thanks! and you are both welcome in Ireland if you ever wander in Europe

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds great! It's up to you then to reach out when you head this way, when is that BTW.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and while we're giving east-coast advice, expect the interstate highways to be boring as hell out there. Nothing but trees along the sides.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I drove from DC to NYC once, yes, it was

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it slows you down a lot, but almost any non-interstate highway route out east is very scenic - miles and miles of quaint farm country.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We would do that, more interesting

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right outside my front door (Greenville/25).

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

well, you should come and wave at us!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. Take 77 from Charlotte to Columbia. Check out 5 points. Really nice area for window shopping and then Gervais street bridge. Finley (1)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Park and if possible I'd say check out peach tree rock. The main formation fell couple years ago but still a good nature walk.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We would love to do that, thanks!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, once you get to Grenville just stay, you're in the best city in the U.S.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

what would be the best things to do there? Attractions, food... :) thanks

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a St. Louis native, an inhabitant of Memphis, TN for 15 yrs, & Greenville the past 9 years, I agree! I love it!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Currently in TX (which I still think is the best state), but moving to Greenville next year. SC is a very close second to TX, though.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Have you spent much time in Greenville?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, my wife has family there. Fell in love with it on the first visit, can't wait to visit each year. Looking to move in May/June.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dollywood is her request, not sure I can skip it. Thanks for the advices, I'll add them as well!

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Dollywood is a lot of fun. I'd skip the other tourists attractions in Pigeon Forge and go walking in downtown Gaitlinburg.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Thanks! we will check it out

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's a Titanic Museum and Wonder Works (upside down house) in Orlando. Skip WW, the Ttianic place is nicer in Pigeon Forge, but not (1)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

terribly interesting. I wouldn't do it again. I'm from Chicago if you need any info for there or TN :) (2)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you do go through Greenville, SC, hit Falls Park downtown. It's really cool.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We will! several people advised this :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dollywood is also near Gatlinburg -- nice aquarium and moonshine places that give lots of free samples ;)

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Free samples? she would get drunk so fast and I would have to do all the driving :P Thanks for the tips! :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dollywood is so fun. Highly reccomend

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

thanks! :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live in Greenville, SC. Can confirm that downtown is a beautiful place. Highly recommend!

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Thanks! We will have a look!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In addition to Asheville, you really should consider extending your trip from Myrtle Beach to Charleston.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We will include Charleston for sure :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Asheville NC has the Biltmore Estate. Definitely worth visiting.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

OK, we will add it to our next version, thanks

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a North Carolinian: you'd be doing yourself a disservice by skipping the Outer Banks. Lots of history and natural beauty.

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Thank you, we will check it out!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seconding outer banks. I visited there and remember seeing a ton of cool aviation history (and the beaches were nice).

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm from charlotte, feel free to crash at my place and I'll take her wherever she wants while you stay here

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow, really? Thank you so much for your offer!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Georgian here. Atlanta is cool but the best place in the state is Savanah. Gorgeous. Should try to hit it in spring time. Breathtaking.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you. We will definitely avoid summertime and its craziness (since we will do Florida before)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm near myrtle if you have any questions or anything

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What would you advise to do there? Where to eat? Something local to try out?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like multiple reasons to not go to myrtle beach

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fair enough

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't skip "The Berkshires" on your northeast trip. (Berkshire County, MA)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok, we will look into it! thanks!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I recommend around September or October.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, that's what we want to do to avoid the tourists

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You should a bit more north in Minnesota.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Grew up in Northern MN. The wilderness is pretty, but I wouldn't suggest it on a trip. Only thing I find interesting there are my people.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

We love wild landscapes as well

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But, you can see the same sort of woods all over America and with better maintained roads :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's true. Well, we will see. We will make new maps after processing everything

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Considering it! Maybe spending less time around the lake to go up North

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Probably the most scenic part of our state. What time of year are you planning heading our way?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Probably September

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Best part of the state is the north shore and BWCA. Lutsen, Grand Marais, Ely. Canoe the BWCA

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you! we will check it out

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're *definitely* missing the best parts of Minnesota. Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls, Tettegouche and all the other 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

state parks along the North Shore are the most beautiful areas in the state, in my opinion. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks, we will redraw our maps :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@OP check out the Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. You can hit up King's Island while you're down that way, too.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Thank you! We will check it out :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hit up that Museum on my way through Dayton too. It's well worth a few hours!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We will get there, thanks :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Used to work at Kings island... I wouldn't recommend it to someone who wants to keep their joy of America

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why that?

It's kind of like the vacation spot for all the worst kinds of people. There are better places to go in the area :)

yeah, I see what you mean. We will avoid such places, thanks!

I drive by Kings Island on my way to work every day. It's weird to hear people talk about it like it's a special thing. Cool though.

The USAF Museum has beel a location for many road trips in my life. An amazing place to go whenever. Go see the IMAX double feature.

We will try it, thanks!

It isn't your typical IMAX screen either. You'll freak when you see it.

We have some crazy one in France, the name of the park is "Futuroscope"

I second that! I lived in Dayton, my dad was in the air force, and we went to that museum all the time! And Kings Island is my jam!

thanks, we will have a look!

Or just go to cedar point which is like 3x better than kings island

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cedar Point will be included. I hope we didn't offend you guys by skipping your State, we got many great advices!

That, too.

NJ native here, skip AC, it sucks, especially after Vegas. Explore Jersey shore and our Revolutionary war sites

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Thank for the advices! Many people told us to avoid AC. We are more about landscapes anyway. Any recommendations where to eat in NJ?

I second the Jersey Shore. Always thought it would be stupid before I went there. I actually really like it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yup. Went to Atlantic City for the first time a couple weeks ago. Not worth it.

I absolutely second. And Princeton is a beautiful part of the US, if only a bit out of the way.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

thanks! What should we do in Princeton?

In town head to PJ's for great pancakes, Hoagie Haven for lunch/dinner, and Thomas Sweet's for dessert. 3/2

Thank you very much! We will see if we can include it

...various historical homes, and the Delaware River that G.Washington famously crossed. Its a nice hike! 2/2

Downtown is quaint and right in the middle is the University. Outside the town you can find the battlefield/State Park... 1/2

Seriously, AC is terrible. Go to Asbury Park or something not miserable.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Definitely hit up Asbury Park.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lol asbury is still pretty fucking miserable. Lived just north my whole life. Yikes.
