Also: don’t race after a dog that isn’t even yours and then face plant less than two weeks after major spine surgery.

#10 I call this "being totally cool and normal about stuff" when I realize I'm not at all and force my autistic ass to outwardly behave the way a NT person would while dying inside

Finally learned to care enough for myself that I got me to urgent care one Saturday, checked in with, 'I'm having a mental health problem', sat down until they called me. Doc asks, 'your intake sheet doesn't say anything?' I said, Oh, I said mental health. She said, Oh of course, they don't want to shame you by writing it down. ! I thought we'd gotten farther than this. :(

But still…you went! Good for you.

Due to trauma and neurodivergence I have extreme trouble talking to people even those I am close to. “Oh have you considered talking to a stranger and paying them for it?” “No.”

#48 Having the mentality off a toddler at 20, 30 or 40 is probably not the flex people think it is.
I agree that mutual respect is important, but crossing your arms and holding your breath is not mature behavior. ijs

And if you cannot trust that the person asking you to do any single thing has a good reason for it, then perhaps you should try not to work for/be in relationships with people you have 0 trust in or respect for. I know that's hard, but something to aim for.

Same. It's been both a blessing & a curse for me but looking on the bright side It's also the reason I feel justified in moving several thousand miles away from my home town & most of my family. Best thing I ever did for myself, by myself and with myself.

My problem with authority stems from being a punk in the 1980s.
Spoonland
also that most of 'authorities' are just fascist scums serving the capital asking you to live in a cage

I go outside for an hour or so every day for my mental health...
Granted, all I do is sit in a lawn chair, smoke cigars, and swear at anyone that goes by, but I usually feel a little bit better afterwards.
Nanoline
...doesn't the last one just mean you're offloading your mental stresses by needlessly shitting them out onto other people who did nothing other than walk by your yard?
Like, if they do something shitty to have it coming that's one thing, but if it's just everyone/anyone who goes by, that's not "taking care of your mental health" so much as you just needlessly being a cunt to people.
Also, *looks up cigar prices* man, if you can afford these and this is how you use them, you're wasting cigars.

#14 The goal is to be the one whose visits your therapist looks forward to with a sort of fascinated dread.
Wheretheheckisjason
Or the one she is secretly in love with.
DrProfessorRocketSurgeon
My therapist vanished after about half a dozen visits from me...
Just straight up disappeared, no one heard anything from her or knows where she went...
Not sure where to put that on the score card.

You report them to the state licensure board for committing a serious violation of ethics.
Source: my state counseling association's ethics chair, who expressed sincerest concern for my hospitalization with sepsis, and explained I still needed to send each of my clients contact information for three other therapists who take the client's insurance and work with their problems.

#1 well, clinical depression... isn't "feeling sad". It's a depressed state. That is to say, all emotions are depressed. Feeling sad would require the capacity to feel SOMETHING to a normal degree. the absence of happiness is not sadness. There are other emotions that you can feel instead of just sadness. And depression is characterized by not really feeling much of anything
"That sounds sad" a person without depression might think. No, depression is nothing, sadness would at least be something.
Wheretheheckisjason
Very good explanation.
TheExpensiveBikeRide
My therapist asked what I wanted to get out of therapy and I had trouble answering, finally coming up with “I’d like to feel something, anything.”

I have adhd and have clinical depression. I definitely feel things. It isn't sad, though. It's more of an empty, missing feeling. Sometimes, it's an actual pain i can feel but not pinpoint. It will hurt so bad that I will, when I am alone, breakdown and cry. It's not sadness, or feeling down, or just being weepy. It feels more like I'm in constant mourning.
