Meanwhile under their hoods a skitarius actually has no hair, no teeth, no eyelids, grey skin that has never felt the rays of any star pocked with ports and connection studs. Many get rid of their lower jaw/trachea as speaking with a flesh voice is considered rude in the Machine Cult. So yeah. Pretty.
I was specifically thinking about Echoes of Eternity when I wrote that, haha. And yeah, poor guardsman, she killed him via sheer proximity because her radium carbine is so lethal to fleshlings.
Hadron is still roughly human-sized and has two arms and two legs. Hardly augmented at all. Belisarius Cawl is a towering, scuttling entity. The Fabricator-General of Mars is the size of a building and has to be disassembled and reassembled to travel places. Hadron is practically a junior tech-priest despite apparently being a couple centuries old.
Hadron's left hand is basically the only fully organic part she has left, and she mentions that she's almost 400 years old. Not a fair comparison to Cawl, who is at least 10,000 years old and is on the extreme far right of the bell curve of tech-priests. Cawl is an EXTREME outlier. If anything, Hadron is herself an anomaly among the upper echelons of the Priesthood, since she still has organic bits and much of her original personality.
I'm playing Rogue Traders (the video game, not the TTRPG), and I ran across something horrifying. I "overheard" a background NPC conversation about a noble who has sex with servitors.
I was about to say, I've spent enough time on r/Grimdank and lived through the "how much skitussy is too much skitussy" arguments to recognise some of these. Archon of Flesh sounds about right. @BiNorwayBoy what do you have to say for your naughty self?
All I know is that some of it is likely Archon of Flesh. Not sure all of it is as the art istself is different in all of the pictures to some degree. I have had it saved on my PC for long enough that I dont remember where I picked it up. Well r/Grimdank most likely.. Or one of the WH40K R34 places.. v
Some people get mad about the idea of girl Astartes, or, God Emperor forbid, women as Custodes. There are canonical cat-persons and ogryn who are considered valuable hardworking members of the Imperium. And the Astartes have entire chapters of werewolves, vampires, and other forms of transhumans. But suggest that maybe there's a chapter of girls - or transgirls - and they lose their minds. Half the Mechanicus barely have any gender. As long as you hate Xenos, the Emperor loves you.
Sisters of battle exist, they hunt chaos/rogue astartes and literally everything the astartes do with insane fervor and they arent augmented to the extent the astartes are... That said the custodes is technically a loophole but they goofed when they tried to retrowrite the femstodes... Also the vampires and werewolves would be purged by the inquisition if they werent astartes and the transhumans are at best treated like 2nd rate citizens/humans. Not gona say youre a tourist but i could easily.
Given that Space Marine initiates are recruited before puberty and are subjected to ridiculously extensive genetic, hormonal, biological, and cybernetic modification by the time they become full Astartes, there would likely be little to no distinction between genders. Astartes are the ultimate asexual supersoldiers. To paraphrase the meme: "Are you a man or a woman?" "I am an Astartes." "What gender are you?" "Tactical." "Yeah, but what's in your pants?" "Fury."
Realistically that would be the case(Lore says women die due to being incompatible with the new Genes). Real reason there are no female Space Marines now is because there were in the 1st/2nd Edition. But their plastic figures were REALLY ugly and did not sell at all. So they were scrapped. For GW it all boils down to the sale of small plastic figures.
I can buy that. And TBH if I were them and wanted to add women to the lore now I'd do it but keep mostly all the same models. Maybe add some alternative heads for helmetless marines. Because as noted, few distinctly female physical attributes would make it through the transformation, and they're all wearing walking tanks anyway.
Yeah it is kinda remarkable how most of the the official artwork (and especially the plastic models) look like total shit and yet the main appeal of the franchise is the artistic theme / aesthetic vibes.
Yeah, you would think that, with how grim and desperate things are in 40k, that anyone who was willing to pick up a boltor or lasgun and fight for the Imperium would be welcome.
They are welcome. The Imperium has zero rules about LGBTQ stuff, race/ethnicity, gender, or anything. It's just that the fanbase has a lot of bigots in it. And the setting still has 80s/90s sexism baked into it because it's a nearly 40-year-old property, e.g. custodians only being male-only was a sexist concession the from the 90s only recently fixed this past year.
As a far as I'm concerned as a 40k fan, SoB are part of that 90s-era sexism the setting still has to shed. Hopefully with a redesign they lose the mono-gender stuff, the corset and boob armor, and the rest of the obvious pandering to young straight men stuff.
Lesbians/bisexuals dont like SoB armor? Sounds more like ya just need a new ip to get behind of... 40k started off as a pseudo parady of a bunch of stuff...
Girl Astartes and Custodes are wrong because at this point it's pretty firmly canon that the Emperor, among his many fuckups, was a weird little misogynist who excluded women for no good reason. Women Primaris should absolutely be a thing, though. Cawl woulda fixed that shit.
The Primaris will be a good point to start including them if they ever do given that the Emperor no longer has a hand in the work and Cawl is all practical.
This could have been a start of it but i think they fucked up when they tried to retcon femstodes in. They could have started with femstodes being a thing with the advances of cawl treating em as one of the prototypes to the primaris followed by femaris marines.
This is 100% my reasoning for why there are no female Spess Muhreens: The Emprah is an asshole. And I think you're right that Cawl and Rowboat are both practical enough to permit female Primaris, if for no other reason than to make it easier to fill out some of the more depleted Chapters.
Surprisingly this one time it’s because he’s NOT an asshole. The issue is that the Astartes project is built on the Primarchs, who are in turn built on the Emperor. Effectively meaning the whole shebang is designed to work with male genetics. They attempted to have it work on girls but the failure(AKA horrible death) rate was orders of magnitude higher. High enough that he gave up on it, deciding that the doubled recruitment base wasn’t worth that many corpses. Which, given he was fine with boys
I've heard variations on this explanation before, but it's pretty dubious IMO, for a few reasons. One, it implies there's either something peculiar about the XX chromosome combination that makes it incompatible with Astartes transformation, or something peculiar about the Y chromosome that makes it critical for the transformation. Not impossible, but somewhat unlikely. Two, supposedly the Emperor, for all his ridiculous bioengineering genius, couldn't figure out how to fix the above. >
> Three, nobody ever says where this information comes from. It's not clear to me it's anything other than what neckbeards have assumed. And anyway, what's more likely: That the Emperor couldn't solve what should be a relatively straightforward genetic engineering problem (by the standards of Warp-enhanced super-science), or that the Emperor is a prick who wanted his manly toy soldiers and wasn't interested in even trying to solve the problem (if it existed in the first place)?
Female Custodes were intended to be introduced when ADB basically wrote the entirety of Custodes lore. Before Master of Mankind they basically had a single, short, paragraph with no details. He wasn’t allowed due to GW wanting to not have things without models but he still set it up.
Female Astartes? Actually can exist in canon. It’s discussed a few times, the basic issue is that the genetic failure rate is so obscenely high that even the Emperor said ‘Yeah, that’s way too many dead kids’.

blindoptimism
Nope. Female Custodians are officially a thing now. Multiple references to them recently in books, and an entire episode of one of GW's homegrown animations is dedicated to showing one kicking the living shit out of some Tyranids and then cowing some White Consuls into obedience.
https://spikeybits.com/warhammer-40k/female-custodes-on-screen-in-warhammer-tv-tithes-episode-2/
They are individually handcrafted humanoid weapon systems that are basically sexless in any case - why not be female?

Dying by the hundreds for a single Astartes, means the failure rate is something absolutely absurd. Like, one in a few million.
