One of the reason the separation of church and state has been enforced so much in the courts was because the xians wanted to make sure no federal money would go to the catholic church to help them gain a foothold in the US. Also if you had gone around the provinces before the establishment, the churches ran the towns with an iron fist. The founders didn't want that for the country.

That "Phrase" is what has been protecting people of all (other) faiths!

Religion shouldn't be allowed to exist. There is no world where religion doesn't fuck everything up and do exactly what it's designed to do. Create zealous hateful idiots.

We gotta undo the bullshit religious changes that have happened since the Red Scare and the godless Commies. I'm just tired of religion being used as a justification to just be the worst people. Religion has its place: something that can help you understand the world, in a philosophical sense, and something to lean on in times of hardship.

But the SECOND you try to force your religion on the world at large and make it mandatory for people, that's when I say fuck your imaginary friend.

So...using religion for exactly what it was created for? Because Christianity didn't exactly "help" the people enslaved by its rules.

The slavery, genocide, and rampant bigotry commanded by God himself are all just as much a part of Christianity as "turn the other cheek."

Theres a quote - "Humanity will not be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest." - comes to mind for some reason.

Really seems like a lot of talk about religion lately... I don't like it. We need less faith and more rationality. It kinda seems like the government is trying to bring religion back into vogue... popularity... not sure what word I'd want to use. But seems like religion is being pushed a little more. People are free to believe what they want even if it is ridiculous. I'm fine with religious stories and info being taught in schools as long as a lot of different ones are treated the same way.

This goes counter to the interpretation of Amendment 1 for the entirety of modern history.

Religion is a cancer on the human psyche. We need to treat it like we do all cancers and kill it.

All good points, except for the claim that Jefferson worked with the framers of the constitution. He was in France at the time.

Religion is just a complex scam, why do you think so many sects of Christianity exist? Because one conman didn't like how one was run so created his own. All religion is bullshit unless it worships the earth. Paganism was the closest thing to a real religion and why the Catholic church burned down their temples and then built their own on top because they thought they actually had power.

We will all suffer from religion until we are free from it.

I hate the Republican party. I'm in Texas and they will start bible study in the public classrooms. I hate to say, since we live in this distopian nighmare of a country, I'm glad my wife and I didn't have any children.

Religion is political tool. It is used to control people.

Since Republicans can only judge book by its cover, they see this woman's nose jewelry , and don't take her seriously.

Ah yes the religion. The one that rules to be kind, loving, not greedy, tolerant, helping others whoever that is.
That religion.

Imgur wont let me write about things saying bad about religon. It says "error" everytime I try post saying something about them. fuck this place too and fuck all religions. They are used as tools to brainswash people for fictional deity. They are only means to control and get more money and power. If you belive in deity, keep it to yourself, I dont want to hear that bs. I used to belive in god and fear him, I was taught that way. Then I found science and critical thinking. I hate religions.

You nailed it OP ! Nicely done !

Never forget Satan is the only thing/person who truly accepts all. Not God or Jesus. You have to follow their strict beliefs/rules to only think when your last n final sleep you will get to meet them. If true stand in line with all the other humans that passed that same day. But I will take warmth from some superficial being that truly accepts all over a you have to walk my thin line I created in my mind that no one has been able to prove I existed. Santa tooth fairy and I say hi

Pardon my ignorance, but as a French where there is a real separation between state and religion, if you do such thing in US why do your presidents have to take an oath with their hand on a bible?

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

There were a number of presidents who swore on a different book (e.g., John Quincy Adams and Franklin Pierce used law books) or didn't use a book at all, like Theodore Roosevelt. Taking the oath is all that really matters.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually, it doesn't HAVE to be a bible. It's just that most of our presidents have been Christian. They did it, because it actually meant something to them to take the oath of office while touching the bible.

The infected pustule currently ruling this country didn't swear on the bible. The bible was there, his hand was there, but he didn't actually touch it.

Needs to be freedom FROM religion.

1 month ago | Likes 198 Dislikes 4

Given how disingenuous these fuckwits are you can't leave any room for misinterpreting. This phrase could also mean that freedom is sourced from religion, making it foundational to our nation's values. It should be "religion cannot be used in any circumstance to influence or guide the actions of the government in any way, shape, or form"

You may find this organization interesting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_from_Religion_Foundation

There is:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,”
That part’s freedom *from* religion.
“…or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”
That part’s freedom *of* religion.

It's fine as it is. What is needed is for All enfranchised Americans to vote

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There is no freedom of religion without freedom from religion. It’s not as if it was atheists who were the ones persecuting people of faith when the 1st Amendment was written. It was Christians using the power of government to discriminate against other denominations.

1 month ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 1

It’s always Christians. And until the so called “good” ones call out the extremists they’re going to rot everything from the core.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't say it's always Christians. The Sunni and Shia have been fighting for over a millennium for who gets to be their theocratic dictator. It's just the nature of organized religion to seek money and power and it's always been that way and always will.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, in the Americas and Europe, it's almost always Christians. But It's most religious fundamentalists. Theocracies have existed all across the world for all of human history. Christianity isn't inherently worse. It's just one of the biggest religions in the world right now and favored by western societies. People lived and died for their Gods' state enforced will for millennia.

There is/are no "God/gods". Religion, in its entirety, is just a bunch (some 4000+, I think) of multi-author Fantasy Fiction Anthologies. It's literally no different from praying to, or worshiping the Cheshire Cat or the Worm Emperor God of Dune. In current times, since the advent of Science & Law, "Religion," is just a parasite on both Society & Civilization. At best, it's nothing more than a Mass Media Entertainment that should be taxed. -_-

I think I just found my new religion from this post - Cheshire cat.

There's a reason Thomas Jefferson, in writiting the declaration we are meant to be celebrating this week, used the words "Nature's God" and "their creator". He didn't want the Christian god to be in there, he felt He didn't belong in there or should be mentioned.

I’m skeptical enough and wise enough to know that I know very little, in the grand scheme of things. The universe is a massive place, and it is possible there is some being or creature out there that has evolved or has advanced enough technology to appear god-like to us mere mortals. But to believe that out of the whole universe, they specifically created us and only care about us and made rules for us, is a complete joke. Religion was invented to control people long before government existed.

I have no problem with Theologic premises or theories, if presented through the Scientific Method, just as I'm fine with Panspermia theories, or our hairless monkey asses just poppin up due to some jackass "alien," science experiment; Universe is a HUGE place, & us being "alone," would literally be THE most "UNintelligent Design," EVER! Defining any "supernatural," "faith," "fantasy," outright Schizophrenic delusion, as our tangible reality or some kind of Science, is a complete Sociopathy.

I think it was originally stories made up by tired parents to make kids behave, and then it grew from there.
