Listening to your mate play a set on some random decks in a destitute dormitory kitchen, surrounded by 40 strangers, whilst under some serious pharmacological influence truly is a rite of passage.
Schranz is a subgenre of Techno music that emerged in Germany during the late 1990s and early 2000s. It stands out for its hard, repetitive, fast sound, often between 140 and 160 BPM. https://www.soundbridge.io/schranz
yes. it's the infamous hör bathroom in berlin. it was a very popular electronic music stream for years but has come under fire for the pro-israel sentiment of the organizers and accusations of censorship.
ooh, I dj too and I can help! She has three tracks open at the same time, the middle one has the bassline going. at 0:38 she shortly cuts of track 3 and ups it right back in, then checks all the faders to see if all tracks are still at max volume (sometimes you can accidentally nick a fader and it messes up the mix). At 0:33 she shortly cuts out the bassline from the middle track, then puts it back up. Consequently checks that the bass knob is nicely in the middle again afterwards (does it 2x).
At 0:15 she enables a loop on the right hand deck and then closes in the loop making the beat skip faster and faster to make an improvised transition. The bass doubles up at 0:11 then tripples at 0:10 and quadrupples at 0:08, then she cuts the track and only the last one remains. She then opens the bass on the last track to keep the groove going, checks it for a nice center and starts dancing. Then quickly comes back to cut back the track for a beat and opens it up again full force to continue.
This isn't just for show. This DJ knows what she is doing and she does it very precise and well. This is why you can't hear any differences even though she is "just pushing buttons" to the untrained eye, there's no differences in volume throughout her mix, you can't even really hear that she is mixing three tracks at the same time. It's pretty impressive ngl, I listened to the entire set a couple times already and I love every bit (I'm a hard techno/shranz lover myself)
I see her touching knobs but not turning them. I'm guessing there's a performance aspect to this kind of DJ-ing, where they'll add pretend stuff in with the real so it looks more engaging
She's most likely just slightly tweaking EQ levels. Some equipment has such sensitive knobs that a fingertip touch will do. Or she's just faking it to make it look more performative.
she's doing cuts on the faders a bunch. crossfader is turned off, which is standard. most DJs use pretty heavy EQing on every transition. what are you even talking about.
"Most DJs I've seen in videos do this thing that I don't understand but I'm going to argue the point anyway..." he says to the guy who has his SL-1200 Mk 2's and Tascam 388, and currently runs four Pioneer CDJ-2000s on a mobile Pioneer A9 (in a coffin I built), and a Behringer WING at home. Don't touch the EQs once you get the room dialed in, ESPECIALLY on a deck with auto-level, dude. Go back to watching David Guetta on Ellen. Reference: Season 9, Episode 55. Run along, now, kid.

Schranz is a harsh and aggressive form of progressive techno music, popular in Germany. It is also a slang word for "crap" in German. :)
firlefranz
“Schranz” is a historical term of abuse for a “superfluous busybody” or “flattering, submissive courtier.”

afaik berlin techno kids are (and have always been) quite political and pro-palestine/anti-genocide.
hemakesupforit
I see her twisting all those knobbies but I hear no difference in music
TK421isAFK
Shit, the platters not only aren't spinning, they're fucking PAUSED. The knobs are just equalizers; you usually don't touch them unless 1/2
TK421isAFK
you're some fake-ass "DJ" like David Guetta trying to look like you're doing something. All these tracks are made on a Mac. 2/2
kirmokum
man, that is some stupid shit right there.

she's doing hard EQ and cutting multiple tracks at the same time. you can hear all of it pretty clearly. she's not faking for being performative.
LarvaLamp
She's most likely just slightly tweaking EQ levels. Some equipment has such sensitive knobs that a fingertip touch will do. Or she's just faking it to make it look more performative.
TK421isAFK
Funny how tracks are blending in and out, yet she's not touching the levels nor crossfaders. You rarely touch the equalizers.
