#10 Does anyone else remember the "Kid Park" units that were in malls in the 70's? A big plexiglass fishbowl with benches around the outside edge, a cluster of TV's each playing a different cartoon in the centre and a snackbar outside. You could drop your kids in there for a couple of bucks and shop unhindered.

#5: My answer is also Vice City in 2003, and of course all I really did was walk around and kill people for money. The notion of doing any of the missions was foreign to my 13-year-old brain until I bought my own copy of San Andreas on Amazon when I turned 17.
LiterallyAWizard
My childhood memory of VC was stealing the nearest motorcycle and then riding around aimlessly at stupidly high speeds, to see how long I could go before I hit something and got dismounted
Rathan5
VC was my first and still only GTA game, and my brother and I beat the ever loving crap out of that game. All missions, all collectibles, all cars, all properties, everything. And a healthy helping of unhinged destruction whenever we got our hands on the really good weapons and military vehicles
TheseusGames
Hah, same. Come to think of it I might have actually played GTA 3 before it, but I feel Vice City was such a huge step up with the visuals, dialogue and cool 80's cars.
MisspentYouth333
Well luckily San Andreas is the best GTA ever made

Mom only confiscated one game, Singles.
DdCno1
For those unfamiliar, this was a Sims-clone with nudity. Actually a very solid game. Came out before Sims 2 and looked better. It was made by a tiny studio, who cleverly kept the scope in check by limiting the game to young adults sharing an apartment. No house building (only walls, furniture, decoration), no ageing, no kids. Not much depth, but slick UI, it ran great on hardware at the time despite the excellent visuals and on top of that there were naughty bits. The sequel was even better.
DdCno1
In the age of Wicked Whims for Sims 4, both are long obsolete, although I sometimes long for their simplicity. Sims 4 has, just like its predecessors, become quite an unwieldy beast. Singles 2 had a small modding community as well, but of course nowhere near to the same degree as the Sims. Its main selling point limited its distribution outside of Germany, where both had a 16+ rating (I got my copies on game magazine discs), despite full frontal nudity and explicit sex - we're not prudes.

A DM (and game creator’s) job is to make players put in enough effort and investment to feel worth from the time spent.
A DM essentially builds toy block cities for toddler kaiju. Of course they can wreck it faster than you built it, often times that is the point: to derive joy from their spirited interaction. Sometimes they’ll slay the princess and marry the dragon, sometimes they will save the world, but if they are having fun, you did something right, probably a lot of things.

It's not that complicated. Plan A always fails because plan A is always a bad plan, and Plan B is 'Light it on fire.'
OnePostCloserToAHappierLIfe
Have you considered emergent storytelling? Work with the players, let them describe them, their histories, their interactions, their loving attachments to NPCs and places...and then when they screw up, make an NPC suffer needlessly, guess who or what they'll go after first. Want to make it worse? No one wants to help, because they believe the PCs are the villains. After all, the only difference between an Adventurer and a murder hobo is personal consequences.
Rpgjgb
Ah, Role Playing only works if the PCs aren't "Roll Players"
(Your typical murderhobo who only plays D&D for the combat/ dice rolls)
OnePostCloserToAHappierLIfe
Ah. In that case, use ninjas. They kill the person before the players get the chance to. OR flip it on its' head: Make EVERY kill a way that somehow managed to benefit the world, but not the players. Kill the guard? Corrupt. Kill the king? Tyrant dictator. Kill the orphanage? Trafficking. Eventually the players will begin to question the lunacy of it, and at some point, their own actions. THEN you reveal it was all a ruse by a trickster god, a la "Q". The difficulty is avoiding the self-insert.\
OnePostCloserToAHappierLIfe
"ConGRATulations, team! You've successfully managed to kill the [insert character here], stomp him into the dirt. I'm so glad you're able to enjoy this experience! Until next time..." *winks out*

#2 this looks fun. I wish I could play "Goat Simulator" the first one gave me crazy motion sickness and migraines. It's the only game that has done this to me, so I'm afraid to play the entire series now.
BearRaid
In your defence there is something weird about the camera movement in Goat Sim. It doesn’t affect me like that, but you can tell there is something weird there. I haven’t played the sequels so I can’t report if it’s the same there unfortunately.
acatinbirdsclothing
It's really bad in that game and also sadly in Stray, which the game that actually brought me to Imgur years ago when they posted a little development preview. :( I just want to play as cute animals.

The whole series makes me very sick, but I get motion sick from a lot of games. I'm convinced game engine developers have no idea how perspective works
WellAckchually
Ironically the absolute worst game I've played for this was Superliminal, which is entirely about perspective
haquie
Duke Nukem forever did that to me
DdCno1
That game had a tiny default FOV combined with extremely blurry post-processing and (on console) a choppy frame rate. That's basically the trifecta of videogame-induced nausea.
At least on PC, you can fix the FOV and shouldn't have to deal with a low frame rate.
There's also a fan-rework of the leaked 2001 Duke Nukem Forever available now (not finished yet, but already very impressive). This is the "true" DNF in my eyes:

I see this posted so much and it gives me the ick every time. Women (and girls) all over the world still have zero fucking say in who they marry so if there are some within our culture who have decided they're only dating guys they're seriously attracted to, get it. It's not my business who they want to date, Fuck the body shamers who are rude about it but shaming people for preferring a trait in the person they're sleeping with isn't the way to go either.

#10 They've had these since the 70's - arcades. Every mall had at least one.
INeverCheckTheUserNames
Yep! But I don't like the "wives can store their husbands" part. Why isn't it that "a couple goes to the mall, both do what interests them, they meet at a restaurant and then go home". These "husbands waiting while wifes shop" posts go close to "hating my spouse" genre. I don't like them.
nefroye
Lighten up, Francis. It's a joke based on a generalization, and not based on "hating our wives" at all. There are plenty of just-fine jokes out there (including on this site) about the things that husbands often do that drive their wives nuts too.
DdCno1
What I don't get is how and why husbands are hating accompanying their wives to clothes shopping. Shouldn't you be at least somewhat interested in what your wife is wearing, perhaps share your opinions on items with her, maybe suggest something that would look good on her?
isavedlatin2x
That's where I'm at, too. My wife and I try hard to appreciate what the other person likes. I was never into fashion at all, but I also never complained about going clothes shopping with her, and honestly after a while I started getting interested in men's fashion. I'm not an amazing dresser, but I'm a hell of a lot better than I used to be. I'm not saying it has to be that way, but I think it's stuff like this that brings a lot of value to a relationship.
stevestevensonthesteve
#5 Me to you: Don't play that, it sucks. Play this instead."
jobe
You're like those people that still go on about old fallout titles with shityy gfx and massive gameplay issues, sure through rose coloured glasses these games were good, but then newer titles with updated gfx came out and smashed them in sales for good reason. Tldr, Skyrim and Fallout 76 are better then their previous titles in their series.
stevestevensonthesteve
Eventually you'll realize that graphics aren't everything, and appealing to the lowest common denominator to maximize sales doesn't make it good. Or you won't, I don't really give a shit.
jobe
No its just the difference between generations of game engines and innovations is quite stark, optimisations, qol, even basic things for combat such as jumping, I've been gaming since the late 80s. Played the first fps (wolf3d), the first rts (Dune2), so its not like I havent had a fair amount of time to form this pov on it. Newer isnt always better, but for some game franchises it is.
STGxDante
I actually hated this game the first time I played it. I didn't understand rpgs. Then I felt like playing it again and man this game blew me away. Also the nightmares. The monsters in the water holy fuck

DdCno1
I mean, it's a classic, but there's a reason the series only achieved true mainstream success with Skyrim. Morrowind is a clunky, complex beast with some serious issues (like combat and poor presentation). It took me six attempts to get into it at the time. I know that Skyrim is a relatively shallow RPG theme park by comparison, but this doesn't make it a bad game.
Some sales figures: Morrowind sold about 4 million copies, Oblivion 9.5 million and Skyrim breached the 60 million mark last year.
stevestevensonthesteve
Morrowind is a game filled with soul and passion. Skyrim is a game that contains some leftover dregs of that, but watered down to appeal to the lowest common denominator to maximize sales. Basically, capitalism means selling your soul for money, and Skyrim is a prime example. Even Oblivion is still decent.
DdCno1
Oblivion has some of the best quests in the series (remember the painting?), but the world design in particular is utterly dull, as are the dungeons, which were all created by a single person. Skyrim improves massively on these aspects alone. I think Oblivion should be criticized far more for watering down the series, both in terms of gameplay and design.
Imperialist29
It's not really a fair comparison. Morrowind launched when gaming was still relatively niche on a mere two platforms, Oblivion heralded the 360 generation which kicked off mainstream gaming as we know it, and then Skyrim hits the market arguably at its peak, riding the hype of the two previous landmark games to 40 times the audience. It's on every major platform available since it's release. None of them are bad, but MW is a vintage mustang and Skyrim is a Ford Focus.
AlexSomething
Comparing sales isn't the best indicator imho. Morrowind is a 2002 game that released only on PC and XBox IIRC, while Skyrim is a much more recent game (2011 originally, then 2013, 2016, 2017, 2021...) that has released on PC, 3 different XBoxes, 3 different Playstations, and the Switch.
AllMaktAtTengilVarBefriare
I'm fine with the combat, it's pretty much just real time dnd with more variables. But yeah, it's not for everyone
DdCno1
Animations and sound effects are very poor, even for the time - and the fact that hitting in particular is a dice roll doesn't really work in the context of real-time combat.
AllMaktAtTengilVarBefriare
Dunno I like it, just landing more hits when you level up is imo more satisfying than damage numbers going up.
Sotai
#12 What's wrong with that is if the torque on his steering rig is set too high it can knock his tower on to the floor.
MCEscherWasADouchebag
At 2600 total for the system I would be amazed if that wheel has significant force feedback. Maybe some rumble lol
obzbdc
Logitech G29 or maybe G923 so either 2.1 or 2.2 NM of torque. Enough to rattle the desk a bit but certainly not enough to cause any real issues
DdCno1
It looks like a Logitech force feedback wheel to me. These cost only a couple hundred bucks. Entry-level and certainly nowhere near powerful enough to cause wrist injuries, but it's a true FF-wheel and good enough for the vast majority of players.
NATA5
$160 is decent for a chair. Never cheap out on stuff you walk, sit or ride on.

Chair prices are out of control https://store.steelcase.com/gesture
NATA5
Gyaaaatdamn that’s expensive. I googled budget chairs on reddit and found one that everyone recommended from Walmart. It’s been doing well so far. I think it was about $100 or so.
kd7uns
To be fair it is a fantastic chair and should last you 10+ years of heavy use, but pre-pandemic office chair prices were about half what they are now.
NATA5
I’m sure it is. I think I bought mine about 2-3 years ago? Some things I don’t like about it but it is comfy and my back is thanking me.
navyjeff
You should see what durable office chairs cost.
kd7uns
I work from home and use my office chair for 8-10 hours a day 5 days a week and I still couldn't even come close to justifying the price of a Herman Miller Embody.
satanslittleposter
I bought an Ikea Markus for around €160 but I'm the ideal height and leg length for it (around 183-4cm - ~ 6'1 in washing machine units). It's a very good chair for the price but the determining factor is height for it as it has a more limited range than some other chairs.
