September 2021. 230lbs
I started going to kickboxing gym near my house because I was getting depressed at my weight and how low energy I was all the time.
This is me after my first kickboxing class. Back then I could only do 2 classes a week max because my muscles were so sore. Progress was slow but I started having more energy after the first month.
October 2022. 195lbs
I always loved seeing the I Did A Thing posts where others have gone through amazing fitness journeys. I?m so glad I can finally add my own journey to the wall.
I workout 4 days a week at my gym either with kickboxing or CrossFit. I run by myself on Sunday?s.
I?ve never looked or felt this good and I can?t wait to see what next year brings!!

Dude did great but @OP is a karma stealing reposter from an account that posted once 11 months ago. It's one thing to repost a meme but this is another level of theft.

Bro, it is a botā¦sure, but aside from free emerald, the points are meaninglessness

Karma stealing reposter? Are you new to Imgur? It's a bot, my friend.
servingmytimeinusersub
Almost anyone who uses the term karma came over from reddit.
UsernamesAreStupidAnyways
Bruh...read the username. It's a bot that *literally* does what it says on the tin. Also, this isn't reddit - it ain't called karma.
16bitStarbuck
Lol, it's a bot. It reposts things from "this time last year" and it's not malicious.
PerpetualExhaustion
I am currently the heaviest and feel the worst I ever have in my life. Iāve tried several times over the past few years to exercise and do strict calorie counting, but it always seems like after I lose 10 to 15 pounds, my body being the bastard that it is catches onto what Iām doing, and locks up any more fat burning. It seems like no matter what I do, I can never get past that plateau. Then I get depressed and fall back into my old cycles making it worse. I donāt know what to do anymore. I hate
pancreas
Think about it like this: you're not burning calories. You are setting a higher daily calorie requirement by increasing muscle mass.
LilianAngora
Happened to me too. Solution: Ignore and keep going. You have to give your body some time to adapt. Time is key. Think in years, not months. I did daily exercise and daily interval feasting. Lost 34 lbs in 3 years. Doesn't sound much, but it's permanent!!! Will never jump back again. Switch off your brain, and keep going. Even if you don't loose any weight, your body is adapting, your metabolism is changing, etc. And be nice to yourself: everybody has bad days, just keep going the day after.
leechdemon
I never lost more than about 10# counting calories, personally. It works, but you're constantly reminding your brain about what you're giving up. Instead, try replacing things from your diet; cookies become trail mix (and eventually nuts and dates), burgers get avocado instead of cheese, etc. Look for opportunities to health-up your food. It's more of a switch and less of a sacrifice, and your body takes the cue.
leechdemon
Also, the exercise is key, but not the way everybody thinks. Make sure your phone tracks steps and heart points, and try to hit a weekly goal, not daily. Personally, I enjoy biking; I can bike two hard days and just go for a few walks, or bike 4 light days and get a ton of steps in grocery shopping, etc. If you're feeding your body the right stuff (comment above), the constant exercise tells your body to burn calories, not store them. And if you eat heavy, exercise heavy the following day.
cameronislame
Mindset change. It is not about reaching a goal weight or seeing progress. It is about consistently and consciously making choices that are good for your body. Start small: stretch 5 minutes in the morning, go for short walks, maybe some jumping jacks in your room, cook one small healthy meal a day. Soon the act of choosing better options will become habit. Habits take around a month to form so be consistent and dont give up. Let the knowledge that it is good for your body keep it going. <3
Chapter2000
Did you try increasing your calories when you plateau? The trick for me is to trick my body into thinking I'm eating more calories again, so it stops trying to reserve fat ( because it thinks food is scarce). Also what that other person said... Do it for the lifestyle change... I am not that amazing though. I need the weight loss to justify not eating the things. I love the things. Give me the things!
RussNZ
I've been trying fasting over the past 6 weeks. Have lost 8kgs. Eat for 7 hours and fast for 17
Difficult for the first week but you soon get used to it.
And... you eat whatever you like during those 7 hours. Cake, rice whatever. None of this strict food crap.
Maybe it could work for you too.
GoGerbilGo
Counting calories and low calorie diets don't work long term. There's always some initial loss but your body lowers its basal metabolic rate after a while and you won't burn as much calories being at rest, so despite the same amount of exercise (never mind less) and/or calorie intake, weight stagnates. You may want to look into a low carb, high protein diet +/- intermittent fasting. That sht works miracles for weight loss with or without exercise but takes a lotta discipline
PerpetualExhaustion
To be a downer on your clearly awesome post, and Iām super happy for your progress⦠I just donāt know what to do anymore. And I can feel the long-term health consequences already starting to take effect.

I did a similar thing for many years, tried to change everything at once and would fall off after a couple of months. I had a lot better success starting with changing one thing at a time. In my case, I started the exercise first, got that locked in for a couple of months, then progressively adjusted my diet.
fbandfg
Also recently found Shahroo Izadi, she says some good things about why weight loss diets are bs and gives some advice I found useful on behaviour change.
ManOfManyDevices
I recently broke out of a cycle like this, losing around 55 pounds and keeping it off for a prolonged period of time. I was able to do it while having a medical condition that largely prevented me from exercising. The trick for me was to lose the weight very slowly, using a very moderate, sustainable diet (including lots of protein every day). In the past, I dieted heavily and exercised aggressively, and would lose 8-10 pounds a month for a 1-2 months. Then, my body would freak out, and I ...
ManOfManyDevices
... would eventually regain the weight. More recently, I went on a very moderate diet and exercised very lightly, losing only 3-4 pounds a month (which is very little for someone with a bulky frame like mine). That allowed my body to (A) lose the weight without having a strong reaction, and (B) get used to the reduced diet. Now, I would have a hard time gaining back the weight, because my body basically can't stomach the amount of food I used to eat. ...
RitzBitz25
This is basically what I did to lose 60 pounds! Now my stomach is trained to eat small meals only and I've kept the weight off for 2 years, I don't think I could gain it back if I tried.
ManOfManyDevices
... What I did may or may not work for you. But don't give up. Your unsuccessful attempts were learning experiences. There's no way I could have done what I did in the past two years without the knowledge I gained during my past unsuccessful diets.

Do people sell accounts with high rep or something? Seems like such a bother to rip off another post just for upvotes.

This bot has been running for 9 years, it's not for sale
LordOfThePenguin
Itās an automated Imgur bot account that reposts popular posts from last year. Hence the username āThisTimeLastYearā and the fact that they credit the original OP at the end of the post
IHaveGreatKittenRecipes
It's a bot, it reposts the top post of the day from the previous year.

Thanks, guess it pays to look at the OP's name!
