The official Trump reelection site is apparently stealing and manipulating people's personal pics, and without permission.

FP EDIT: As some commenters have noted, this ISN'T an official campaign manip, but a third-party one, trying to glom money by playing remora to the official campaign. I wanted to make sure that I was being an honest player here, so I'm adding this correction, and leaving my initial INcorrect comment, above. Thanks, and have a happy Saturday.

FP EDIT 2: Link to the original tweet: https://twitter.com/ItsRykard/status/1172426476848742402

FP EDIT 3: Send music recommendations. Or whatever.

Scam artist runs scam campaign, what a surprise.

About to say this does seem kind of off doesn’t it. Why would they photoshop someone knowing they would immediately get called out for it?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

And for that matter: NO CAMPAIGN from ANY candidate sells on Amazon. Cripes you people are suckers.

Dude, Donald Trump sells stuff *with the Presidential Seal on it* at his golf courses. I'm pretty sure that's illegal, too. No consequences.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

why not correct it and add a notation that you were wrong initially? Do you not think with such divisive times it isn't of utmost important

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

ance* to do your best to make people know of your mistake if you made one? Not hide it in a change log?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How do we know he didn't sell the image as a stock photo, or in a modeling shoot? Do we know this is a personal photo?

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 6

It just seems odd they wouldnt use a supporter to wear the hat but instead would find someone who isnt one and photoshop their pic instead

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Photoshop is pretty fast and easy. More so than an actual photoshoot that would still require post processing anyway.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But again you literally find an attractive person and put a hat one them, versus find a person not affiliated with you and photoshoping them

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Guys here’s the rule...read the whole article or wait a day before commenting on Trump “controversy”. Turns out the person is selling knock

7 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 14

2 off MAGA hats. Note in both of the articles they say somebody or unofficial.

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 13

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All the stable genius in here blaming the Trump campaign, but can't even notice a well-known scam. :golf_clap:

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ok, but where are you finding a connection between this dude and some scam stuff? Post a source if you have one.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Read the print on the ad to the left. Whoever is the scammer behind it used the guy's image as part of their scam.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I couldn't find anything about what you're saying when I searched for it. Found that Walmart is selling cheap knockoffs but that's it.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

This dude doesn't seem to care at all though, finding the whole thing funny actually. He just now wants a free weeks stay at Trump tower.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Looks like a marketing company, not the campaign and he’s British so probably doesn’t have jurisdiction

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Can we get a link? I keep looking through his site and can’t find this. Granted, not a fan, but I do like me some fax.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Can’t find any articles on this but the hat does not look to be on the official Trump site. Likely a Chinese hat seller.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

"Chinese hat sellee" who do you think makes the official maga hats?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

All the Trump hats are made in the USA by Cali-Fame of Los Angeles, a well-known and long-time US manufacturer.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Definitely the case. Chinese do not obey international IP, and also don't give a fuck about using an image without permission, either.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And USPS customers subsidize the cost of shipping *from* China due to their Universial Postal Union treaty status as a "developing" country.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This makes the scam here possible: "pay only shipping and handling." https://www.sellerdeck.co.uk/2017/09/04/the-just-pay-shipping-scam/

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I heard about that on NPR. :(

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But..they’re British, the pic shows they are in central London! Surely they could of found at least a US citizen to photoshop!

7 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 8

They cropped it so you can't really make out Big Ben or the ferris wheel.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You didn't read the fine print. It's not the Trump campaign. Is a scam: https://www.sellerdeck.co.uk/2017/09/04/the-just-pay-shipping-scam/

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

…well, if they've shopped the hat, cropping the background doesn't sound as going that far in comparison.

The original producer of an image retains copyrights of it regardless of how it is shared.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If the ToS state you're handing over the rights of everything posted and you accept then you'll have to see them in court

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

3. If you raise an issue with someone stealing your image they will remove it because *you* have rights to it, not the platform.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The terms and conditions are carte blanche to prevent you from having to individually license every single piece of content uploaded.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You give the company rights to use that image in whatever means necessary for operation, but they do not retain copyrights of it, you do.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Our Privacy Policy explains how we and some of the companies we work with collect, use, share and protect information

Twitter ToS claims the right to sublicense anything you post w/o notice to you

7 years ago | Likes 164 Dislikes 15

Luckelly, the UK is currently still in the EU and hence Twitter can use their ToS as toilet paper

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

The right to republish a tweet (say, by embedding it) is very different than someone altering the picture and using it to sell ball caps.

7 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

Correct, which is why they said sublicense, not republish.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Also Union Jack means nothing as to whether the pic was acquired legally. No stopping my American ass from putting a Serb flag in my handle

It implies they are UK. It's not definitive, but it suggests an intern fucked up on picking stock models.

He’s a British model and some stock photo company took his pic and sold it to the trump campaign to use. Perfectly legal.

If your feelings aren't hurt, my comment isn't for you. But it's still true. All these "this will make me vote Trump" folks would anyway.

Actually, some Bernie supporters voted for Trump even after Bernie endorsed Hillary. So, probably not always the case.

Thankfully Trump's popularity has been dropping almost since day 1. I thought of him as the lesser evil when he was elected, regret it now..

not vote for trump is to shame them when they say "I made a mistake and regret it", you're a fucking idiot.

Crazy how his popularity has been going up but somehow to you his supporters have been dropping??

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 13

According to what metric has his popularity increased?

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

And what pole did you get that percentage from????

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Just googled the most recent one, but it had 3 options, everyone, adults, and likely voters, not sure how much that affects the result.

I'm honestly ok with this take. Lots of mis-information in the 2016 campaigns and depending on your circles, you could have been

fed some very convincing lies. All that matters *now* is you take stock of your mistakes (if you see them that way) and try to right it.

I still don't feel safe about our news now though, if someone's pushing an agenda, chances are the oppositions' just pushing the reverse.

This is specific to news by the way, as for politicians it's pretty different.
