It says I'm missing gcc right off the bat and I don't have root access.

Is Bogdan from Romania?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Mai mult ca sigur

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think so

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

he works at Bitdefender, hence his comment

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Linux still exists? And people use it? TIL we never left the 90s.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah.... Just use Yum to update it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait, there are people who actually think manually making partitions is hard?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pick your flavour: http://futurist.se/gldt/wp-content/uploads/11.01/gldt1101.png

Debian forks are so pretty laid out like that

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Compile failed due to incompatible pan

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You rarely NEED to compile on Arch...not to mention it's easy as hell with mkinitcpio.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Alternatively, you get to see all the ingredients so you know that a big corporation didn't decide to jack off into it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"yum install cake" OMG SO FUCKING HARD IM HACKERMAN

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Install failed. Only root users can install. Gotta sudo bang bang that shit now

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I can't type sudo, it's too advanced and isn't an english word. Fuck it all I'm going back to windows 10

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

but I don't know how to install facebook on the lee-nooks! it's so confusing!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The cake is a lie

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I recommend this page for anyone that is new to Linux and wants to try it. http://distrowatch.com/

Send Bungie a plain white cake without icing or toppings.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I prefer this version:

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You misspelled IKEA

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always compile a custom kernal

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only reason to use Linux is so you can brag about using Linux. It's like opposite of fight club.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It's free, does everything I need it to. Windows is paid, and does not.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... So, do you have an Apple or a Windows smartphone?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

./configure; ./make all; ./make install

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Or any distro if you're trying to install software that the creator didn't compile...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But at least we can make the cake as we want. Dont have to stick with premade apple cakes in the windows ;)

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 9

Yeah, but it also means I have to go through the trouble of obtaining a mixing bowl, oven, mixing spoon, etc. when all I wanted was a cake.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

interestingly, it is easier to put the window in the apple given the context.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You mean pie. Mmmhm. Yeah, I love pie.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Most things go with apple pie, too, with very little effort.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, I wanna make an apple cake

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Please save me a piece when you do.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How long do you intend to support that recipe on GitHub? I'll probably find it 3 years after you do and try in vain to recreate it.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Ha!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The recipe will still be fine, if you delete all the automake garbage.

Wait a minute. Ikea and Linux were both created by Swedes, right? Is there a built-it-yourself subculture over there or something?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Torvalds is Finnish.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is he? Damn. There goes that theory. Is it a Scandanavian thing, then?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Creative? It's a reused Ikea meme. Probably a repost from goodwill.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

You think someone would do that? Reuse a meme?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not even two weeks old of a repost

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and repoststatistics came by earlier, this isn't even his own meme anyways

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I learned mostly from CentOS. Going from that to Ubuntu was a little annoying... A bunch of slightly different commands. I prefer Red Hat.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

CentOS is non-commercial Red Hat.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know. My point is that vs Debian-based systems, I got used to RH-based, so I prefer that more.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Everyone has their preferred flavors. I still much prefer apt to yum or pacman etc mostly because I started with mostly debian based.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

dnf will consume us all

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haven't played with fedora in years... is it more user friendly than yum?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also centOS always felt clunky to me

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

O butter... can someone help me compile with margarine?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did you even read the man pages?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

haahah, thats usually the start of a flllammmeeinnng.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't even know what Linux is

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's an operating system (like Windows or OSX or iOS or Android) on which you can manipulate documents and run apps but most versions are $0

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's very much not like Windows, OSX, IOS, or Android. Android's practically linux in name only these days.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You misunderstood. I was enumerating those things because they're also operating systems, in case the one asking the question didn't know1/2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

what an operating system was. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Plus OSX is a lot more like Linux now that it's UNIX like. Still worlds different than Windows though

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Free to use, although some companies provide expert support for a cost. And free to tamper with the source code and make/distribute your own

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ahhhh cool thans

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is free to really screw up if you're not careful, but goes quite well if you get some good guides and advice

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Indeed. If you're running it on a VM though it's extra free! Even mistakes are free!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or debian if your hardware is old enough

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I meant like powerpc macs, but you are correct.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lies. debian sid's package versions are barely older than arch.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Debian really shines at wide range of supported devices and stability. Bleeding edge it isn't but that's not what it's going for

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

as i said, that's simply not true. it's as bleeding edge as you want it to be - it's just that the kind of people who want bleeding edge >

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

> don't usually want to use debian, for various reasons.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bleeding edge requires additional repos. Their schtick is stability so when you install from official there's almost no chance to Bork it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ah yes, debian UNSTABLE is widely known for being stable. mmh hmm.
