I agree but some animals have really slow metabolisms and just gain weight like crazy and you cant do too much about it. Thats how my cat is

Have you tried giving less food? Weight doesn't appear from thin air. Yes, it's more work to measure portions, but it's good for the cat.
Absolutely. He gets 1/2 cup of food a day. 1/4 in morning and evenings. It's diet food, and half is wet food so it's less cal. And he <
Doesn't even eat all that. Plus we play and he goes outside a few times a day. I can't feed any less, he already hardly eats. Hes 18lbs.

And unfortunately pets don't have a choice... As there natural behaviour is to eat what they get.

That behavior is... not true. So long as stress is low and food is abundant on a constant basis, cats won't overeat.
Even when they DO overeat, they will usually throw up because of it.
I've seen plenty of larger than normal animals in the wild. What BMI does this relate to human wise? Is it 20 lbs over weight? 200? Cause 1/
You can easily be 50 lbs of fat over weight, look large yet fit typical tests of good health(cholesterol, HR/BP, oxy sat, etc etc.) 2/3
But where does that fit in with these cats? Animals are far more likely to remain active while overweight than humans are when overweight3/3
