Even the kindest interpretation of public opinion polling on Trump and his unhinged leadership thus far tells us this: The president is wildly unpopular, and he is creating a crueler version of America that a sizable majority of voters reject.
A CBS News poll conducted July 16 through July 18 found 58% of Americans disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job as president. Only 42% approve, a drop of a whopping 11 percentage points since a February CBS News poll.
Citing Gallup polling, USA TODAY reported Trump’s June approval ratings during the first year of each of his two terms “are lower than any other modern president at the same time in their administrations.”
And polling averages from the New York Times to CNN to YouGov show Trump’s approval wallowing in the low 40s.
The recent CBS News poll found only 44% approve of Trump’s handling of immigration, down from 10 percentage points from March.
A Gallup poll released July 11 found only 35% of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of immigration, with 62% disapproving and 45% strongly disapproving. Now that Americans are seeing masked ICE agents round up hardworking migrants and shuttle them off to foreign countries or lock them in detention centers surrounded by alligators, only about 30% of Americans say immigration should be reduced – that number was at 55% last year.
And there’s this from the same Gallup poll: “a record-high 79% of U.S. adults say immigration is a good thing for the country.” Support for hiring more border agents has dropped 17 percentage points since last year, and only 38% of respondents want to see all undocumented immigrations deported.
A Pew Research Center survey last month noted: “About a quarter of U.S. adults (23%) say they worry a lot or some that they or someone close to them could be deported.”
A recent AP-NORC poll found that about half of Americans “feel Trump’s policies have done more to hurt them” than help them, while only a quarter of respondents said Trump’s policies have helped them.
The CBS News poll found 60% of Americans oppose Trump’s tariffs on imported goods, only 36% approve of his handling of inflation, and only 25% of voters believe the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” Trump recently signed will do anything to help them, while 47% think it will hurt them.
A Quinnipiac University poll released July 16 showed Trump sizably underwater on immigration, trade, the economy, deportations, foreign policy, the Russia-Ukraine war, the Israel-Hamas war and tariffs.
the ongoing Jeffrey Epstein scandal, the Quinnipiac poll found 63% of voters disapprove of the Trump Administration’s handling of the case.

Now people get it. Some of us realized this the moment the orange turd cane down the golden shower, I mean escalator.
ChelVanin
So let’s get rid of him.
somethingsomethingwittyhere
It's ok, you can vote him out next time. And it's not like the Constitution is in danger, right?
300Hectares1TankofKerosene
Take down Fox News, Twitter, and Facebook and see how that shit plummets to 10% approval. The Right Wing/ Russian propaganda tools have been insanely effective since 2016.
wandermanspacebot
His approval ratings were in the 40's during his first term too. MAGA obviously doesn't care, and the independent morons that decide every election have the memory of goldfish.
handsoffhandson
Why, oh why, hasn’t he been impeached? The Republicans have only a tiny majority in the house & senate, and they’re likely just as embarrassed and regretful (and, frankly, scared) as the majority of the US populace. Get it done!
Richter12x2
Told you so.
Spanky93
How the fuck do you elect a dirtbag that has historically pilfered every business he has been a part of to the point of bankrupting it then expect that he would not do it to your country? Absolutely needs to be impeached.
Bignholy
Literal generations of prep work. Teaching hillbillies to fear science and learning, that the world was better for them when they were either literal or metaphorical slaves to the people telling them all this, that the problems in the country come from their neighbor and not their overlords. For generations.
BDBottom
All funded by extreme rightwing billionaires like the Kochs, Mellons, Scaifes, Uihleins, etc.
Nothing wrong with this country that sending a hundred malefactors of great wealth into space -- permanently -- couldn't go a long way to curing.
IDontCareAtAllButIShould
He doesn't care. He now has had all the authority given to him to do what ever he wants. So why should he care?
kittyfajitas
Ego. It's very fragile.
SquashDemon
If only those people had FUCKING VOTED AGAINST HIM THEN
AgnosticPaladin
But that would require putting on pants and leaving the house. Also, genocide Joe, the laptop and her laughter, so bofh thideth baad!
freshthrowaway1138
I'll believe this when it is reflected in the voting booth. Polls mean nothing if at election time the turnout doesn't change. Winning elections is the only thing that matters, and I'll care about his low poll numbers when it actually reflects who wins the elections.
Also, I'd love to see this poll broken down by district. A bunch of people hating Trump from LA is no big deal. Now if it's this amount from OK, then it will mean something. Not as much as elections but something.
ApothecaryGrant
Yeah, we fuckin know that. The goal is to actually find a way to remove this pedophilic saboteur from office.
RenaissanceFaireMan
Republicans/MAGA are at 90% approval!
unremarkableasterisk
He was more keen on bending to the will of the voters during his first term on the hopes it would help him get re-elected. It didn't work (the first time), and now he no longer needs to worry about that.
vericon151
American stupidity is so strong.
Like, ok, I’m hoping this underage raping sticks, cause you know , terrible, but his crimes are so fucking extensive at this point that I’m not sure I’m putting in the top 5. Letting the Capitol building get attacked , letting over 1 million people die from COVID, letting hundreds… thousands die from cutting aid and programs, being a traitorous shit (Mara la go docs, Saudi deals, etc) , most incompetent cabinet ever, being a lying idiot, etc
He is terrible.
NotThatPrivate
"Those who disapprove still plan to vote for his 3rd term, however, because the alternative is voting for a Democrat" /s
OutOfTheHat
Over 40 percent. That's almost half the people who answered the poll. (I am not going to claim it's over 40% of the population because, you know, how polling works). Even if it's only 100 responses, that's 40 people too many. Almost half. For whatever broken reason, 42% of the respondents think it's ok to pound the country to a fine powder and dump it into the latrine.
djangojazz
We need to secede or do something beyond take it. Democrats are just mostly doormats in the face of everything.
MySeperateAccountForDownvotingCatPosts
It's like less than 30% of the population voted for him and the only reason he's president is because a bunch of people refused to vote like headasses
sleepinggreenidea
It's because of the electoral college. Full stop. It directly leads to disillusionment on the part of the voting public since we've collectively created a perception that Congress is useless and meaningless, so only Presidential elections matter, and unless you're in a small minority of states your Presidential vote doesn't matter either.
(Okay, and it's also b/c of SCOTUS. Refusal to reform SCOTUS got us here. Their dereliction of duty and outright malfeasance in voting law cases was critical)
GreenFox
When congress completely fucking bends the knee to the president, then indeed, actually, fully, the presidential election IS actually all that matters.
sleepinggreenidea
Neither party has been willing to change norms to prevent a minority party from deadlocking Congress. The filibuster needs to go, but unfortunately special interests (most prominently the US Chamber of Commerce) actively lobby to preserve it b/c deadlocking Congress is good for their bottom lines. Until and unless a simple majority can get bills through the Senate, Congress will become less and less relevant, with the Executive & Judiciary appropriating its functions & powers with no resistance.
DocFunkenstein
And the rigging.
You forgot the rigging.
You know, the rigging they admitted to, proudly, and boasted about publicly.
jridley
And they still wouldn't show up to vote against him.
TheNihilistsParadoxicalWashingMachine
A pathological narcissist as grand leader, a literal lunatic running the asylum is creating a twisted horror of a country you say ? I'm shocked. Who could have predicted that letting someone with a severe mental dysfunction be in charge would result in a place people don't like living ? Maybe there should be like, some safeguards against letting crazy people run for office. Preferably before they've burnt said office to the ground. But. I'm sure it's fine. US exceptionalism and all that.
CedricDur
Most american presidents were footnotes. Trump wlll go down as america's Hitler.
eddbrowne
Eventually poorly educated citizens can send us all to hell.

Duh
GlenL
Shit, you're telling me electing a fascist pedophile wasn't a good idea?
mward1984
Isn't it funny how quickly the press turned on him when he decided to sue Rupert Murdoch? ...is this how Japanese people feel when Godzilla starts fighting King Ghidora in Tokyo?
theInfinitelyProlonged
I'd put money on Murdoch over T.
mward1984
It's a real "Whoever wins, we lose" deal huh?
psstuphere
So what are you going to do, americans?
psstuphere
Nothing...
CaptCrobar
The world wants us to kill each other.
UnoriginalPieceOfRepeatingShit
We want to kill each other. Or at least a third of us want to kill the remaining of us
psstuphere
Bending over will not help
CaptCrobar
No one is bending over, We are fighting. Its just not bloody enough for you.
psstuphere
It's just not working...
taez555
Only 42% approve? That's 141 million people. That's frightening.
Slonato
There's no good American until you deal with this.
Calicious
Nah, 41% of people who filled out their poll
B3N15
At the same time, we're at the point in a Presidency where the President is, theoretically, supposed to be at his MOST popular. So the fact that our starting point is 42% is saying a lot
captdiscommfort
Yes yes yes it is.
FightingRevengeOfYourMom
That and a couple key gerrymandered states and they can fuck a lot of things up
CptRobotNinja
I was gonna say, that's not "wildly unpopular"
SoDark
poll finds 25-35% of population are absolute morons
PaleBlueHammer
It's adequate progress. We are sacrificing a lot right now to even begin to make an impact. But it's nowhere near enough to both break the spell and also cure the cult mindset that's been festering for so long. More has to happen, I'm afraid.
ilovetraveler
What I have to tell myself is that lots of Americans are ignorant, uneducated, and illiterate, so not all of those people are despicable, depraved bigoted psychopaths. Some of them are just stupid. It's still depressing, but being stupid is more redeemable than being straight up evil.
BrdCdn
I love American news. Only 42% equals wildly unpopular lol. Americans will do anything besides acknowledge that their society is sick and fascism is entrenched. But sure. You'll get it this time in 2028 right?
taez555
When Trump runs again.
BrdCdn
Exactly. And the GOPs had 4 years of unfettered control of the entire system. I'm sure the elections will be very free and fair /s.
taez555
As much as they were in 2020 and 2016.
No /s needed.
Because although we know it’s sarcasm, we know it’s the truth.
OmenJones
It's probably 42% extrapolated from registered voters, so more like 70 million. Still awful and inexcusable.
CycloneSP
this is also 42% of ppl willing to be polled, btw. we also don't know their sample size nor where they got their samples from
CycloneSP
were these ppl polled from a single location? across multiple states? etc etc
OmenJones
Pew's methodology is public.
khora
I don't think the non-voters are completely neutral.
Arbitrarynamehere
Yeah that stat is from registered voter approval. Doesn't measure nonvoters though, so the actual number is higher but it's not clear how much
taez555
Just 42 is awful and excusable. No wonder it's the meaning of life.
taez555
(edit) in-excusable. :-)
wadatahmydamie
Damn, he really lost 7,000,000 voters
cabalin
Losing approval and losing voters are not necessarily the same.
wadatahmydamie
Sadly true
hyptosis
It is in-fucking-sane. He could murder a child in the street with a shovel, on camera, with his dick out, wearing a coat of dead puppies, and his approval would only drop 10% !?!??
I can't believe the people around me, that I walk by daily, that I help at work, these people are -that- fucked up.
fumptrucker
Subtract the number who are not paying attention because they never pay attention to politics, i.e., subtract ignorant indifference, and you get a more accurate view of 'approval'. I see 2 paths of hope for the midterms - the Democrats can get their message together long enough to at least get the majority to vote, and Trump's gross incompetence starts to hurt more of us, including business leaders who realize they can't make money from an economy in collapse.
GloveFullaVaseline
Dems might start with an actual agenda to push. Repugs have a nasty one, and all Dems seem to do is try to put out fires so to speak... What's our fucking agenda?!?! We need something to PUSH. Fuck.
fumptrucker
Dems have long been poor on messaging. The Will Rogers quote says it all: "I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat." Any clear message will always have some of the caucus wandering off - for Dems, "party discipline" is an oxymoron. But I think Pres. (insert derogatory nickname here) has provided enough targets that a cogent, forceful and focused attack is possible if someone in leadership steps up. Or maybe it's just back to herding cats ...
Sh1tMovieGroup
That's the problem with citing results without bases, you need to know the margin of error. Also, as someone who works in market research (not polling, but closely adjacent) there's no mention how they deal with right wing bots that have been on the rise these past few years - we've noticed the bot problem shift from just Stevie to claim incentives to right wing ballot box stuffing on free surveys, so I'd take any poll result with a pinch of salt.
Blunderwriter
So there’s an even higher percentage of assholes than reported.
Sh1tMovieGroup
no, that's the opposite of what I'm saying, the bots are voting right-wing, to over represent right-wing views in reports and conclusions drawn from whatever was being asked, so, they may say 42% approve of Trump, but, if you took the bots out, it would drop.
Also, not sure why swipe threw a Stevie in to my last post = \
Blunderwriter
Apparently someone disagrees with both of us. Can’t upvote yourself though. So…here’s a hand.
Sh1tMovieGroup
social media for you, upvotes and being correct can be too very different things ; )
