Seem to be a rash of skydiving accidents (aircraft related) recently. 12 died in Missouri and 11 in France in the last few weeks. That aside, it seems a bit sus to deliberately jump out of a perfectly good aircraft.

In the past couple months there have been 2 skydive airplane takeoff accidents that had 10+ fatalities, its not just the jumpers that are reckless.

A friend went skydiving once, the most surprising comment she had about it was, that when you are falling that fast, the smallest droplets in the air stings when it hits your skin.

I can assure you it doesn't. My first thought on this video was the pain. You're going 200+ km/h and the cloud is basically raindrops. Each is a needle. Not a big deal with a suit and full visor helmet... Less fun when bare naked.
(I've got a couple years of experience and it's common to have foggy weather on my former drop zone, non US)

It will in fact have varying velocities. The hailstones can be held aloft or even go up even at larger sizes depending on the strength of the thunderstorm. There are powerful down and updrafts within. If they skydiver is falling into that at 120 mph and they encounter hail going up at speeds of up to ~50 mph, the added speed becomes 170 mph for the collision. Rull into a bunch of golf ball sized stones and thats serious injury or death. Yeah, tho, if they are falling it isnt as bad.

Look at a Vandergrift generator (static tesla-coil-looking device used in grade school science to genrate shocks). A thunderstorm generates lightning by oppositely charged ice chunks going past each other in updrafts and downdrafts - those cycles of air movement can allow hailstones to get to the size of grapefruits and bigger- now granted some of the ice accretion happens as they are already falling, but you get the picture.

Theres a famous story about a US test pilot that had to bail out into a thunderstorm and the updraft kept him aloft for an extended period. Somehow he survived being partly frozen, too. Tough guy for sure.

Friend of mine was in a glider in France and a parachutist dropped through cloud and took his wing off. Killed the parachutist, both guys in the glider bailed out and landed safely.

On the list of things that didn't need to be written i to law, this is pretty high. Skydiving planes are already required to be wary of other aircraft, just as the skydivers are. Jumping into a cloud isn't going to magically make anybody flying a plane think "oh good, he's not in my way anymore". This is like that planes that hit the parasailer (?) a few weeks back and everybody wanted to blame the airplane. At those speeds, nobody is going to see a skydiver in or out of a cloud.

There's a very good reason for this. You do not want to fall into another small aircraft, and those are definitely likely to be flying around any place there is skydiving going on.

Damned stupid thing to do. Jumps like this are illegal in the US for a reason. You could get stuck by lightning, pelted to death from hail, get hit by an airplane... any number of things can happen free falling through a cloud like this.

I would assume a reputable skydiving company would have to file a flight plan that would ensure that the drop zone doesn't intersect with any other air traffic? Not excusing dipshits breaking the rules for thrills, but seems like the sort of thing I'd hope would be a regulation.
