JERUSALEM (AP) — Three Israeli hostages who were mistakenly shot by Israeli troops in the Gaza Strip had been waving a white flag and were shirtless when they were killed, an Israeli military official said Saturday.

Anger over the mistaken killings is likely to increase pressure on the Israeli government to renew Qatar-mediated negotiations with Hamas over swapping more captives for Palestinians imprisoned in Israel. Hamas has conditioned further releases on Israel halting its punishing air and ground campaign in Gaza, now in its 11th week.

The account of how the hostages died also raised questions about the conduct of Israeli ground troops. Palestinians on several occasions reported that Israeli soldiers opened fire as civilians tried to flee to safety

Hamas doesnt even need to kill the hostages. They just let them out into Gaza and the IDF does the rest.

I dont support hamas and condemn the brutal disgusting crimes against humanity they conducted on 10/7. I do not find Israel reaction justified. We need a humanitarian ceasefire for palestinian civilians to leave the conflict zone and hamas can be removed without further civilian loss of life.

There was no mistake. They acted exactly as instructed. Somehting along the lines of "If it moves, kill it."

are the soldiers up for murder?

"3 hostages murdered by IDF, despite waiving white flag and begging for help in Hebrew" - There we go, fixed the headline.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

It's worse than the headlines suggest. Only 2 of the 3 were killed in the initial attack. The 3rd fled back into the building and screamed for them to help him while they shot at him until he finally died too.

From the river to the sea…(anyone thinking this is antisemetic is missing the fact i am actually quoting the Likud party charter)

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Oh, you missed the "best" part - they only shot two of the three people. The third managed to run away and hide - they hunted him down and shot him whilst he was begging for his life.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Guess the rest of civilians slaughtered there weren't mistakes.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

That is correct.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They're not trained to shoot civilians! They're trained to shoot terrorists! It's just that they define "terrorist" as "anyone you think may be Palestinian."

IDF's been trying to kill the hostages from Day 1 when they started bombing every place they *alleged* that Hamas was holding them. They knew that they weren't being mistreated and knew they couldn't have them telling the world (in the meantime, Israel was torturing its hundreds of prisoners)

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Holy shit are you brainwashed. There is endless amounts of evidence that Hamas methodically tortured people to death in the original attack, but now they're going to treat the hostages well?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

Look it up, zionist nazi boy. The hostages released by Hamas shook their hands. The hostages released by your nazi heroes were tear gassed, tortured daily, and threatened with recapture if they spoke to press. Israel is a nazi regime, shitbag.

and they wonder why ppl don't like them...

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

did american cops train IDF forces?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wonder if they're being trained by our (American) police force. Seems they don't know when not to kill either.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Oh the solider just tripped and accidentally shot the hostages haha, happens to the best of us all the time, totally not biased reporting being done here.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

I don't believe I have to say this, but I'll say it any way: Will you please stop killing each other?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Israel has a right to defend itself agaisnt other israelis

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

I'm pretty sure the IDF's "mistake" wasn't shooting unarmed civilians flying a white flag. The mistake was that they weren't Palestinians.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 5

Yup, if they were we would never know. Because that what there orders are to do.

As I said before, fuck anyone that deliberately targets civilians for their selfish wars and military conflicts, as war SHOULD be unnecessary for sentient beings with such highly developed social and reasoning skills, but seeing as humans are such a failure at effectively utilising our reasoning/social skills -(as we default to war whenever faced with national disagreements between nations)- proves we are no better than wasps, or ants, therefore proving that we're a failure as a species…

If they're going to let a few innocent civilians get in the way of killing innocent civilians, what are they even doing?
...

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is a war crime. Ganiva convention 47 hors de combat if

he is in the power of an adverse party;

he clearly expresses an intention to surrender; or

he has been rendered unconscious or is otherwise incapacitated by wounds or sickness, and is therefore incapable of defending himself.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Maybe shooting surrenderng people on sight is not the best hostage rescue method

2 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 3

Israel has made it pretty damn clear with the indiscriminate bombing that they do not want to risk rescuing hostages and losing their excuse to murder Palestinians.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

The problem is that Hamas is purposely using these tactics to surprise the army, so it's hardly surprising miscalls like this happen, which is undeniably very sad. They're also using kindergartens and hospitals as places to launch their attacks from. Guerilla wars are dirty.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 46

The men were stripped to their waist and waving a white flag, how is that going to surprise the Israeli army? The Israelis are supposed to be one of the best trained and disciplined armies in the world and, but that is not what we are seeing. We are hearing about this instance because the victims were hostages, but how many innocent civilians have did while trying to surrender?

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 1

I've no idea what case this is about and wasn't talking about specific people, I am talking about generally how situations like this happen, which I made visible in my post by using plural. I also wasn't justifying it, it's a war crime. I was simply explaining how such things happen. But many people have trouble reading these days.

War crimes on one side do not excuse war crimes on the other side.

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Exactly.
I wasn't justifying it in any way, just explaining how such things happen. Lots of people can't read properly anymore.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So unarmed Hams fighters are surrendering and then... Punching IDF to death? You got some specifics on what exactly you claim is happening?

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

What are you talking about. You need to read my text properly, I wasn't talking a specific case nor defending IDF behavior. I wasn't justifying them but explaining how such things happen. It's a war crime. War cimes happen on both sides. Why is everything black and white for you?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Very specific: surrendering prisoners wearing explosives. This isn't even limited to Hamas; suicide-bombers have become a time honored classic over the decades.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 18

Attempting to verify your claims I have found reports of would-be suicide bombers legitimately surrendering to authorities and of Hamas being attacked by a suicide bomber. What I have not found is any account of your claims being true.

These particular people were stripped to the waist, with their arms raised and holding a white flag. Try again.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

IDF: that white flag was probably a marker for the location of a Hamas tunnel

"these things happen" when are committing genocide.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It was a mistake. They thought they were gunning down half-naked PALESTINIANS waving white flags and begging for help. They didn't know they were actually Israeli, and therefore human in their eyes.

Waving white flags, yelling Hebrew, yeah man. Total mistake. It was an honest to God mistake. Everyone makes em right? Right? You guys remember all those times you shot your own hostages that were waving white flags, and pleading in your own language right? Right guys? Guys?

I’m especially worried for the youth of that region. Imagine growing up with all of this violence and hatred around you (if you were lucky enough to survive at all). I fear that this is only fueling more generations of hatred towards other people. Truly devastating

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 4

That's the point on both sides, the leaders use fear and hate to stay in power. Both sides do not want peace and it's the civilians in Palestine and Israel that pay that cost.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If Israel has their way there won’t be a youth in that region to worry about.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Will the terrorists blamed for this? Yes. Yes, they will. And Hamas as well.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

And that will be absolutely correct. This is in fact 100% the fault of Hamas.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 10

How?

People are loudly blaming Israel and turning a blind eye to Hamas IN THE COMMENTS ON THIS VERY POST.

Every country seems to have the most professional army until they actually send them to war and it's still a bunch of teenagers with boomsticks.

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 5

Israel seem to add religious zealots to that qualifications as well.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

That's because war irl is actually very chaotic and not like you imagine it with no clue from ur couch. Trust me you'd still do A LOT WORSE than trained soldiers.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 11

The thing that would make the average civilian a bad soldier isn't that they would commit more war crimes but that they'd balk at or outright refuse orders to commit war crimes. It takes allot of training to get someone to shoot unarmed people waving a white flag on sight.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Until the first time you see a friend die because a surrendering prisoner detonated a bomb, or otherwise did the "Climax of Die Hard" thing. There was a case in Afghanistan in the 00s, where a surrendering prisoner hurled napalm or white phosphorous (can't remember which) and burned a female soldier alive. Her squadmate was court martialed for what he did to the prisoner. His commanders couldn't condone it... though they certainly understood how he felt.

Which is why the Soviets used to keep the good weapons behind the conscripts

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It wasn't a mistake... Israel would have concentration camps and gas chambers if they could get away with it. They learned from the best.

2 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 19

General chaos in a contained area serves them better than attempting to wipe them out systematically at this stage. There are still too many to round up while maintaining plausible deniability

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

What a superbly idiotic statement. Well done

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 11

Based on Israel's response it's clear they know they fucked up. It was a mistake for certain, but not because innocent people died, but because this time it was hostages they said they were there to rescue. This is a massive fuck up that's a PR nightmare for Israels genocide pr campaign.
