They had been innovative when they first came out. Since, the cars have not changed much and they are placed with poor assembly, door gaps are inconsistent, and the interior touch panels are cheap and noisy. Any EV by a major car company will be better and not attract the standard douche drivers.

Well yeah, but also no. I mean, down with Musk, and all, but there is a lot more at play here. For one, tax benefits on electrical and hybrid cars are worse these days thanks to right wing governements. Also, sales of cars are down on a lot of levels, and Teslas are freaking expensive. Also, try to get a loading station installed in the electrical gridlock that currently exists in the Netherlands.

As a Swede I have gone from damn I’d like a Tesla but can’t afford one to hmmm I hope other brands come up with some competitive electric alternatives because they seem to have quality issues but still probably Tesla is what I would go for, perhaps a second hand one. And now to I wouldn’t buy a car associated with that dickwad because I’d be ashamed to be seen driving it.

I drive an EV. Very much chose another brand of car than a swasticar. When picking cars, I made a list of brands. His was nowhere near it.
I’ve seen one licenseplate that was issued in the last 6 months over here. One. A few more that are from 6-18 months ago, but the new licenseplates are very few and very far between.

I used to say that I would have been absolutely fine with Musk jump-starting the electric car market only to then die off once it had gained enough momentum for other, better companies to take the lead. I did not, however, think it would take the metaphorical (and increasingly literal) death of the United States for that to to occur.

It’s slowed now that we are in the resale stage and people are finding a used electric car value drop is crushingly terrible compared to a gasoline or hybrid used car. Curious to see what happens from here. Also Elon just torching himself with politics isn’t helping anything either.

Yea. It's a mistake for business people to try to be politicians and business owners. Because your businesses become tied to your politics. You end up making your company's and your products a symbol synonymous with your political stances. It's stuck that way. The two worlds don't mix well. Eventually what's good for the business doesn't match the political party you're supporting and then we see conflict like with Elon and the fight over worker visas.

There’s literally no reason to ever ‘upgrade’, other than planned obsolescence or complete failure. But then you wouldn’t buy another from the same company as the car that just exploded and needs replacing.

Is it that bad? My Nissan Leaf is 3 years old and I bought a new one because a 10 year old one was still 2/3s the cost of a new one. Anecdotal for sure. I don't often keep up with car prices, but at least at the time Leafs were retaining their value quite well.

I've got a 2016 leaf. I got it 5 years ago for 16k, it's worth about 7k now. Over a 50% drop in 5 years is steep, but I think it's just because batteries can be a bit complicated to deal with. In another year or two I'll look to use the current battery as a home backup and get a new one for the car. 24kwh should get me through most of the power outages my area experiences.i expect the market for spent every batteries to pick up for people doing similar things

Batteries will always be the problem with ev's. Hopefully someone (austrailia?) Can produce a battery that holds a charge better and charges faster than the fire hazard we have now. The "tubes" for ev's that I've seen in development are just death traps.

Used EV prices held for a while a few years ago, which messed with the normal depreciation curves. The rule of thumb is that you'll lose 20% a year, but EVs dropped quicker than that recently due to that delay in their curve. I recently sold my 2018 Leaf which I had for 4 years, pretty much followed this 20% rule exactly.

EV sales were relatively flat so other car makers are eating in Tesla's market share directly -- and this was before the orange shitstain's enabler really got going. I'd expect a 20% drop in sales for 2025.

That leaves China, where Tesla faces the most competition on price and features, emerging markets where EVs are not really a thing, and North America where Tesla is losing ground to competition, facing tariff exposure, and might be losing the tax break. At some point the $TSLA shorts will be right; maybe that day is coming soon.

Musk wants the tax break gone. It’s the only way other companies can compete on price. Teslas manufacturing is dialed in. Without the tax break other companies will have to charge way too much - the value isn’t there. Tesla will survive just fine and could even just drop their price more
