The iPhone was NOT even CLOSE to being the first smartphone. Pocket PC Phones, Treos, and Blackberries existed going back to 2002.

There was a crude monochrome browser on the Ericsson T28 ca. 1999 and I doubt that was the first. Google sez Nokia 9000 at end of 1996.

Certainly true, but just browsers isn't a smartphone. Installable apps, file support, things like that definitely are.

yeah true fact! Symbian allows sending copying and editing everything on non rom drive and just sending and copying any os components.
