Yes. In Poland we have 3 cases when the child was dead in the womb buy the doctors didn't help the mothers leading to their deaths. All because the doctors were afraid that ANY procedure with fetus could be interpreted as abortion and for that you could get a life in prison.

3 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Its Texas, so her mother is 100% correct. They didn't care about the 18 year old suffering, and if the baby had been born they wouldn't have cared about it either.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That shouldn’t happen to anyone. In this case the 18yo and her mother were anti-abortion and didn’t have a problem when others couldn’t get one. Just another, “only my abortion is morally justified” conservative. https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/03/health/texas-fetal-demise-propublica

That very last sentence is all that needs to be said.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It sucks how much less "hassle" they expect to get from letting a pregnant woman die in a horrible way than aborting a fetus.

3 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Pretty much the same happened here in Poland couple years back when our former government went the crosshumper route and even made the doctors scared of aborting in accordance with the law. Fortunately the new government got rid of the paranoia factor on that one so it got slightly better.

However reversing abortion bans in primarilly christian countries is sadly a tall order...

3 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Seemed like? Ha. Let me confirm it for you honey.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If that had been my child, nothing would stop me from seeking revenge on everyone responsible

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

She would have had better medical care in Saudi Arabia or Iran than Texas.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hey guys, did you know? If you save the mother’s life, she’ll probably have another kid later? Then you’ll get what you want! /s

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The family should sue the state of Texas for negligence in killing all the mother's unborn potential children. Use their arguments against them.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The GOP is death cult.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We need to stop letting non-doctors make medical decisions, including and especially lawmakers.

IANAD, but once Sepsis is diagnosed, sending the mother home is a death sentence for both the mother and the fetus. Stupid laws should not be followed.

3 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Not just non-doctors but also doctors who don't have any knowledge on the subject matter. I think it was CBS that had a doctor on one of their talking head shows for a discussion on abortion and the guy was a fucking podiatrist. He had no knowledge or experience with reproductive health and yet he's the one the talking heads had on to talk about abortion.

3 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

No, they were more concerned about their medical license and not going to jail.

3 months ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 1

Came here to say this. If ignoring the heartbeat gets them into jail, but killing the mother doesn't, guess what they'll be doing. That's the intended cruelty of "Pro Life".

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What other job is there that sends you to jail for doing the right thing? May all these so-called "Christians“ die a slow and painful death.

3 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

You can be thrown in jail if you are an attorney, 100% know your client is a murderer so you do the right thing by not giving them a proper defense or actually telling the court they did it. There are actually a lot of jobs in corporate management you can be thrown in jail doing the "right" thing if it goes against the company and shareholders. Hell whistleblowers have served time.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I guess Texas gets what Texas votes for.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They are more concerned about not being locked up. How the medical community is not revolting is absurd. ... but that's for profits hospitals for you

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bro they all left. I live in central Texas and would need to drive 2 hours to get a GP appt. There are whole ass deserts of medical care here. Soon as I can get enough money together, we're out

System working as designed.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Back in the 90s, in my conservative hometown, my Christian male OB recognized that I was in a state of emergency at 25 weeks pregnant. He rushed me into an ultrasound to confirm his findings, and he performed an abortion in a Christian run hospital early the next morning. He saved my life, and then continued to look after my mental health. He was my OB through my two successful pregnancies. Today, that man would be ostracized by these fucking loons.

3 months ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

He would be in jail.

3 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

How batshit crazy to consider.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's exactly what Texas voted for

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They are not 'Pro Life', they are 'Pro Birth'. Because the process of giving birth probably earns the hospitals more.

3 months ago | Likes 168 Dislikes 16

My mother was a career hospital nurse in postpartum - hospitals lose money on all maternity care. It's considered community service.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Seems you cannot read. There is nothing in this case that was expected to lead to birth. The people who write these laws are pro women dying of sepsis. The hospitals are pro not being arrested, even at the expense of patients' lives.

3 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

They're Pro Death.

3 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Holy shit is this one EVER ***NOT*** about "earnings". This is about controlling women. FULL STOP.

3 months ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 2

It can be both. South Carolina has waged a full war against midwives outside of hospital settings, especially Certified Professional Midwives who do home births. It is being led by a coalition of OB's who want every woman to give birth in hospitals. They claim safety, but the statistics don't back it up; the profit margins do. Some of these OB's were responsible for the only midwife group in the area with hospital privileges being shut down.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

TOTALLY unrelated to what's being discussed. Yes, hospitals in our capitalist hellscape really like money. No one is denying that. But that has NOTHING to do with why abortion and related care are controversial.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Anti-choice.

3 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

They're not even pro-birth, they're anti-woman.

3 months ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 2

Its what it really boils down to. I thought it just stopped at "pro-birth" but after sometime and looking at the way life has gone. It truly is anti-woman. Its disgusting.

3 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Sounds like a lawsuit for wrongful death.

3 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

They're just following the law. Sounds like it's Luigi time

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Then they sue the lawmakers. And fail, bc its Texas, and the judges are pieces of shit GOP plants.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How can you be more concerned about a live to be than a life that IS?

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Because - and this is the logic they use - by letting the mother die instead of having an abortion they've ensured that both the mother and baby go to heaven instead of hell. They feel like they have "saved" them both.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

...as someone who has been born in a catholic family, and this is at least in my home, this makes NO sense to any of us.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The people behind these laws generally aren't Catholic, they're Baptist. And saving everyone else whether they like it or not is basically their whole thing.

dehumanization is a tactic that people use to commit genocide. just say they arent humans you agree with, protect your own psyche

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

It is not about the origin, race or something inherent. It is about actions. Actions have consequences.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

it doesnt matter. humanity has made grotesque, abhorrent, violent decisions since its inception. you cant treat every undesirable aspect as fundamentally inhuman, because explicitly it is not. the act of dehumanizing other people dehumanizes you in the process.

dont get this mixed up with a defence of these people - i would actively celebrate their deaths. but they are human beings, and denying that is a weakness, not a strength.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

100 percent in agreement

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This is perfectly human though. Humanity is not something good, or special, or deep. Humanity is what humanity does. Every charity, every song, every war, every atrocity, everything. And humanity continuously, actively supports this by going to work and paying taxes and living under the systems made to perpetuate this. To put your own tribe over all else is a normal human thing to do.

Good for her! I am very glad to hear she retired. Maybe if she gets the desire to help people she can move to a "free" state to help people in need.

She became president of the National Association on Menopause or something similar.

It would be hospital policy trapping doctors too. Doctor violates the policies and then they don't have a job and very likely get sued by the hospital for practicing evidence based medicine

There's a part of me that kind of can't blame the doctors at 100%. More like.. 40% on them. Cause I can't blame them for not wanting to lose their license to practice in the state they live in, or get sued by the state. ... still, that opens them up to being sued by the patients family (and rightfully so, though the families should target the *actual* root cause of the problem: The state, state law, and the fuckers who enact these laws).

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/womens-health/texas-abortion-ban-deaths-pregnant-women-sb8-analysis-rcna171631

”The number of women in Texas who died while pregnant, during labor or soon after childbirth skyrocketed following the state’s 2021 ban on abortion care — far outpacing a slower rise in maternal mortality across the nation.

From 2019 to 2022, the rate of maternal mortality cases in Texas rose by 56%, compared with just 11% nationwide during the same time period”

3 months ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 1

The other scary thing islet news story title is the reference to “just 11%”… the richest country on earth should have a pregnancy mortality rate in crease or 0%, or better. Like the rate needs to only go down. Not up by “just 11%.”

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I don’t know much about statistics, but I wonder how much the %56 increase in Texas added to the %11 nationwide increase

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Rose by 56% compared with just 11% nationwide" is a phrase that is tickling my misleading bullshit detector and brings two questions.

56% rise from what to what? Percentages are worthless without actual values.

11% nationwide, is that the total or the rise? Because if its rise, we still need the values, if its total its incredibly misleading because it tries to make you think the 56 rise is actually 56 total.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

I don't care if the message you are trying to push is good, because it is, but it doesn't matter. Intentionally misleading sources and statistics helps no one and weakens any arguments you present with it

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nitpicking language like this is pointless if you're not even willing to read the linked article. Like, you don't even need to google it for yourself. All you had to do was click the link.

3 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

The nitpicking comes from the use of the quote, and the use of percentages because they sound scarier.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 8

Percentages mean something... You sound you want them to instead say the count out of 100k because then it sounds smaller.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Percentages mean something when they have solid numbers behind them. Percentages alone are commonly used to make assumption based arguments.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Who gives a fuck what the actual numbers are. This is murder by policy. Even one is too many.

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Because when you are making a point of a massive increase, its important that it is actually a massive increase. If I say the rates of something have increased by 150%, that sounds scary.

Until you realise that its increased from 2, to 5. Just having percentages weakens the point and opens you up to that kind of dismissal or defense.
Because if they come around with the real numbers and they aren't to your expectations, you won't be ready to argue for it and will just have this emotional bull

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Arguing that an increase of dead people from 2 to 5 and saying that's not a bad thing, isn't a fantastic argument. Three more people are still dead. And that isn't just three people. In Texas in 2019 there was 377,000 live births, with a maternal death rate of 16.7 per 100k, that means that 63 mothers died in child birth. In 2022 that increased to 26.052 per 100k, or 101.34 mothers dead in childbirth. That is still 56% more, 38 more families without a mother.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Point to where I said that isn't a bad thing.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And guess what, that number continues to increase. In 2025 the death rate per 100k was 29.3. So 114.27 deaths. So another 13 families without a mother. More deaths without cause but for people being more concerned for an unborn life than an established one.

You want every pregnant mother to die of pregnancy complications....and have 300 upvotes. This place is so vile.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 33

It's not about the babies, or the mothers. It's about virtue signaling. On this website, in this place, being pro-choice is the majority opinion. So saying hateful but popular things gets you social approval.

I should add: I'm thoroughly pro-choice and feel that pro-lifers base their position on pseudoscience and religious beliefs. But I'm not going to use that as justification to be hateful.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Yeah, this place has certainly gone off the rails as of late. If you're not in blind, violent agreement with the masses you're vilified. It's almost as if the cult haters have become the cult.

They're operating under the reasonable understanding that "Birthers" means "Women who can/will give birth". Because the term's face value means "women" to anyone who has more than a 5th grade education.
If you can't see how that word can be misinterpreted then I don't know what to tell you.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

At face value, it means "women". So maybe we should be using the full term or a different term to avoid understandable confusion.
