And just because someone is in prison doesn't mean they committed any crime. When there's big money in throwing people in prison, the validity of a "conviction," is very subjective.

Yes, and they also get meals every day, most get more 'recreational time' than many non-prisoners. They have health care. Many prisons provide free education. And when they do work they are compensated.
I've had this conversations with people before. Being a prisoner is not the same as those who were actually enslaved. Prison 1 can't sell off it's prisoners.

What most of you call 'slavery' in regards to prisoners, is closer to 'indentured servitude'. But we've made the decision that rehabilitation for many prisoners is to help them reintegrate with society. Yes, I know that process is piss-poor right now, but that is the basis.

I have a friend that was given a 17 year sentence. We had went separate ways before he started fucking up too bad but I still talk on the phone with him sometimes. He works for a $1/hr as an electrician apprentice. He actually makes more than that but there's all these "fees" they justify for his housing and such. He still uses fentanyl despite being in & the $40 he makes a week goes to that.

He broke into his drug dealers garage to steal his drugs after being ripped off. Dealer wasn't home but told the police he was so he got a home invasion charge. He was also on the run at the time. I don't remember the charge he had for that. Might have been related to a bad relationship he was in.
