I think I'm fairly good at fighting games until I try an online match and don't touch the floor for 40 seconds straight because I'm getting juggled into oblivion.
My grandnephew (17) has been talking shit about Smash for like two or three months now, saying how good he is and how he'll whoop my (38) ass. So on Christmas Eve when he was here, I finally obliged. Kid couldn't even take a single stock off me. P.S. If you're trying to figure out the ages, my nephew is only three years younger than me.
Tbh, with fighting games even the single player drops the ball. My biggest gripe is always the difficulty curve being too sharp. You go from mind-numbingly boring, to brief enjoyment, and suddenly into frustration as the difficulty exceeds your skill level. I just want to select the sweet spot, and enjoy the game at my own skill level, raising it when needed.
It's a fighting game. Practice is huge, nobody is going to lose to a fresh noob unless they haven't learned to play yet themselves. I see memes like this all the time... You guys really lose to 12 year Olds at anything?
I'm old by gamer standards, my reflexes are shit, there are certain button combos I just can't do... but I've been gaming for approaching 40 years and it's been decades since a 12 year old has been able to offer any sort of challenge.
Nothing more satisfying than watching some kid spam super technical shit for 30 seconds straight, and then hitting them with one perfectly timed counter into a kill combo. Fuck your fast fingers, I am a mountain in the wind of your movement, and I will let you dash yourself upon my tech.
I've been banging my head against Sekiro for a while now, my FromSoft nemesis. My 14yo son got it yesterday and is caught up already. My old man reaction times can't keep up.
Seriously, I used to own at the first COD: MW...and within a year I was getting smashed by a 10 year old that was literally multitasking COD and an RTS AT THE SAME TIME.
You laugh... but as someone who's crested 30 recently... so much this. I can make em cry with my words... they make me rage quit and get an Xbox live ban.
I'm 34. Since turning 30 I've gotten into the Souls games, Elden Ring, and Monster Hunter. I know I still have the reaction time, but even though ages 12-30 was playing a fuckload of shooters I've recently just lost all interest in them. Maybe if Quake or Unreal come back, or Halo returns to its roots (ie: Halo CE, 2, and 3) I'll get back into them.
*cough* this is gold. Sadly the kids will eventually outplay the dads. Reflex degeneration from older age is a bitch. I've seen it and felt it during mk11. Just cant react fast enough anymore.
It's definitely not reflex degradation. I could play CS with globals and hold my own (LEM was my max rank) but I have so little time to practice these days. I was at my peak in my mid 20s, but I could get that good again if I had the time to practice like I used to

The noob harvest was bountiful.

Still not used to SF6 fully but can beat my ten year old and his friends. Tekken 8 will have to wait.

I did get my middle school nephew a Steam gift card. No mercy. Go for it.

My nephew got a switch, and I absolutely schooled him in Mario kart. The meltdown lasted an hour.
Burke616
Ooh, sounds like somebody needs a break from having a Switch.

Everyone load up old darksouls and elden ring games and nuke them with naked dodgy boys
RunningInSpaces
I know it's a fighting game, but the shooting ones... They're tiny fingers are just so much more tactile to get the head shots

Because 1 is 2 less than 3, and 7 is 1 less than 8, and 2+1=3. Good math.

If you're doing this in unranked matches, it's a good way to stifle growth in the game's community. Ranked matches, no remorse.

And that's why I don't play competitive multiplayer games. I cannot compete with a 12 year old who has nothing better to do than git gud.

Git gud and shriek. Fuck those small lungs are loud.

Don't know if it's me, or the tech. Fps mouse and keyboard, the youngsters are whooping me. But in VR pvp, I'm dominating.
megodk
I don't think it's even reflex degeneration. To a degree it's simply not being able to practice as much
