The government is like okay extortion it is.

So according to the article, all the fraud so far was committed by red states since blue states didn’t submit their information. Are they withholding funds from those red states?

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

About that $37tn deficit and the Epstein files...

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The comments are sadly telling about how many people really, really don't understand how tax payments work and how the states have no part in it. States cant do anything to stop it because they're not involved. They'd have to pass a lot of legislation to force companies to use them as a middleman. That will get a lot of pushback.

It's astounding how much hate, stupidity, pettiness & anger can exist in a single person.

Blue states should stop sending federal tax. If Fed money only flows one way, stop letting in go to them.

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

States should withhold tax until their people are fed.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So extortion. Again.

How much more obvious is it gonna be that he wants to start a civil war

The face they'll make when they find 0 illegal immigrants in the data

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Great just withhold funds to the feds if we are not using our tax dollars as we voted to.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So the lawsuit that is arguing against the Fed's right to the data will be supplemented by a lawsuit arguing against the Administration's right to thwart the operation of a program approved by Congress.

Legally, all the cards are against the Administration in this game. They can't add requirements that Congress didn't include nor are they allowed to stop funding a Congressionally authorized program.

Normally, I'd be reassured by this, but an appeal to the Roberts court is fucking terrifying because he's a goddamn traitor.

9 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

And even if Roberts goes against trump it won’t matter since it’s ideologically the Thomas court now.

Stop paying taxes to the federal government. Red states will make out great!

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Reminder that every single person on this board can stop paying Federal income tax any time you want.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not so easy when the taxes are deducted from your paycheck. However, there are a lot of ways to minimize your taxes, and ways to resist.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, it is exactly that easy. You call your HR or whoever and you update your W4 and claim exempt. Done.

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw4.pdf?1764018031

You're still going to owe all those taxes, and what you do about in April is up to you. But it's trivially easy to stop them from withholding taxes from your paycheck.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Data is just 1s and 0s. Give them zeros

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Okay do it and all blue states withhold any and all federal taxes they normally pay. That'll go really well for Trump and his cronies as red states rely on that funding.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ask the king of england how well that worked out for his forebear. Taxation without representation means we kill your soldiers and your tax collectors and all those loyal to you and this time there is no ocean between us and you.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're making lists.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Say it with me:

Ya Can't Apply

For Benefits

If

You

Aren't

A Citizen!

The "data" they're asking for is a poor attempt at seeking a list of impoverished, exploitable people from whom they will continue to extract cheaper and cheaper labor until they're dead.

9 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

These are, of course, the people insisting THEY don't need to share data, like crime or disease statistics, meteorological patterns, simple little things like that.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those states should withhold taxes.

9 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I sure will be.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

States don't have anything to do with it, companies send it directly to the irs. They'd have to start passing a LOT of laws to step in and on the IRS' and companys' toes to even try to do that. Or somehow get every single citizen in a state to deny their workplace send federal tax for them.

I’m convinced everything he does is intended to go to SCOTUS since they have given him his way on 80% of cases.

Federal judge reversed his last withholding of SNAP, albeit a week later. We'll probably see the exact same this time around if he does it again. Probably even faster.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As if that's ever worked with that semi-sentient abortion survivor.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's OK since the blue states have money they'll just continue to pay out SNAP benefits and just withhold it from the taxes they send to the Fed.

9 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, states don't pay the feds; the feds take it directly from the people.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

California has perhaps the biggest ball move opportunity. stop paying Gov taxes and just use said tax to fund programs to help other states itself rather than throguh Gov.

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How would we stop paying taxes exactly?

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

assuming the state could find a reason to legally do so? Basically CA would likely give gov the federal tax (as thats theirs) however state tax and income tax would instead go to the state.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

States don't handle that. Companies do. They send it directly to the irs with no middleman, the states have no part in it. States would have to build something legally to interrupt that procedure.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This seems like a good way to motivate blue states to withhold all federal contributions until the trump economy crashes in red states.

9 months ago | Likes 493 Dislikes 4

That is about a week I am willing to bet.
If all the blue states acted together.

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If it were possible this is a cool idea i support. It keeps getting mentioned. But I've got to remind everyone states don't send any notable money to the federal government directly. Individual entities, people, businesses, etc pay federal taxes. All businesses within those states collectively would have to stop paying taxes.

9 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Why does this stupid idea not die?

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I keep seeing that suggestion, and i keep pulling my hair at it. How would it work? Tax revenue is collected at the individual paycheck. How would any state prevent this from happening? Pass a law to forbid it? How would this impact the multi-state companies that are a majority of the revenue?

9 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Hahah yeah, I get the IDEA... being part of the union is looking less worthwhile as federal guardrails fail. But good lord, it's not like california gathers up the money themselves; it's directly to IRS by every. single. company. The closest to making this possible would be if California passed a bill that companies in California can legally operate without paying federal taxes, and levy its own state tax to replace it. 1/2(?)

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But you'd have to protect those companies and their operators from federal agents, because that would be wildly illegal on the federal level. It's functionally secession from the union, which there... is no mechanism for. It'd be a very confusing war with the California leadership who implemented it treated as rebels, because well... it would be a rebellion, yeah. And even if you were on board with that, how many companies would be? Trading partners? California doesn't have a navy...

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Technically it’s not collected at the check. It’s held in your enoloyers account until they make their predetermined scheduled payment to the agency. It depends on the individual company, if they do their own payroll, or if they use a 3rd party processor. I work for one of them. If, and that’s a big if, somehow the state could mandate businesses cut off FIT it just as easy as a) they don’t send that quarterly payment in if they do their own or b) if they use a vendor, there’s usually some 1/*

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

software letting them block FIT from calculation. The vendor can suggest against it, but because they aren’t accountants they can’t actually tell them what to do about their taxes. We can get in huge legal trouble giving tax advice. At best, they’ll switch it to employer liability to pay absolving the vendor of the responsibility. Even if all the MAGA loyal employers decided to send in their FIT, the drop in revenue coming from the state of say CA would be immense and very noticeable. The 2/*

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

government could of course go after those businesses, but the IRS is already backlogged to fuck and back and that would immensely exacerbate it.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

doesnt even need to go that far....just have CA stop giving tax revenue to Gov. That INSTANTLY has a massive effect on nation and especially gov. Some blue states will get caught up in it, but more so reds and Gov can't really blame CA for doing anything bad because CA being a strong Dem led state would be admitting to how badly Red states are by comparison. They couldnt stand that hit to their pride.

9 months ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 0

This assessment would require them to agree on a set of economic facts which is a stretch. They choose their own facts.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

80+ billions dollars we send to the Feds. I say fuck 'em. Let the red states crash and burn. Those of us in California can sure as fuck put that 80+ billion to good use here.

9 months ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

people dont realzie how much CA makes on a global scale. if you removed CA and made it its own nation it is the 4th largest economy in world. only US (w/o ca), china, and germany would be larger.

CA holds so much economic power its scary if they ever wanted to use it.

9 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, we pay our federal taxes directly to the Internal Revenue Service. I live in CA, and my federal taxes are not sent to the State of CA, I make the check out directly to the IRS. And if I don’t pay my federal taxes, I don’t think the state is going to come bail me out

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I was gonna say this. I wonder, though... if state taxes are deductible, could CA raise taxes enough to impact the feds? I dunno if they are deductible and I know it would hurt like hell for most people, but maybe do it for high earners?

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was about to correct you and say 5th largest, but I checked myself and you're right. We did go up a ranking.

I've been saying for a long time that we need to take our economy, our farm production (bread basket of the world), Hollywood, Silicon Valley, etc. and tell the rest of the US to fuck right the hell off. Washington and maybe Oregon can come along too.
