Somebody should chip in and buy that kid a decent keyboard. He’s got some good stuff.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The way he plays by just tapping his left thumb, and pressing his right palm on the keys, clearly self taught genius at work here. an improvisational jazz legend is born

I would buy his cd

Ebm pentatonic does it again! Gotta love mashin them black keys up top. I do the same thing in “I Wish” and I’ve been playing for 25 years

3 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Aha you’ve explained it - noticed he was only hitting the black keys and wondered what was going on here. E flat minor you say?

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It's the minor pentatonic that really makes it stand out. There are 7 notes in a scale, and the minor pentatonic takes the minor scale and omits the 2nd and the 6th. A lot of rock music tends towards the minor pentatonic, and the blues scale takes the minor pentatonic and adds 1 note, the semi-tone between the 4th and the 5th.

It's kind of funny because all white keys is naturally C major, and all black keys is some of the notes of the Eb minor scale, the selection of which happen to be a pentatonic scale. Pentatonic scales are SUPER forgiving since you can play whatever and not really get a 'wrong' note, as all the intervals will sound alright. Lets you rock out like that. I'm not super good with music, but I remember discovering something just like that kid (just not as good at that lil guy).

I would ABSOLUTELY start a band with this kid.

Realistic? A Radio Shack brand? How old is that keyboard?! Good job rocking it with such outdated equipment.

3 years ago | Likes 380 Dislikes 4

I always thought Realistic was such a random brand name. "Is that a genuine tape recorder?" "No, but it's Realistic "

Some of the best pianos are 100+ years old, and a good player can make a trash can sound like an orchestra. The age of an instrument means nothing.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We reconditioned a 150yo grand piano for our restaurant, played well, sounded great. Piano cost about $300 and $3000 to refurb. Well worth it.

How much for the guy named Sam playin' it again?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When I used to golf, I used a set of cheap clubs. I figured if I played shitty with these, no expensive clubs are gonna make me that much better.

He gonna be the next Ed Sheeran

Believe it or not there are some radio shacks still left.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cool; I didn't know that. Kind of nice to know, since I used to work there.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

fact checking since I haven't followed them since they closed all the stores in my area during a bankruptcy a while back. From the Wikipedia page, it sounds like you're right but maybe not for much longer. "RadioShack operates primarily as an e-commerce website, a network of independently owned, franchised RadioShack stores, and a supplier of parts for HobbyTown USA.
On March 2, 2023, Retail Ecommerce Ventures, RadioShack's current parent, announced that it was mulling a possible bankruptcy"

They've done something weird like Woolworths where they still exist outside their original founding country. Eg RadioShack opened in my country after the US closure and it sells all RadioShack branded products. No electronic components like the North American stores did however.

I mean, how outdated can a keyboard be? What new tech advances have there been in the world of keyboards?

3 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 2

At least four. Some of the really high-end keyboards though have really nice weighted keys. They just feel good to press I don't know how to explain it. Almost worth paying the extra $5,000 hahaha

for a kid belting out an upbeat jazz riff in his yard to a bunch of cellphone cameras.... i'd say hes doing it exactly right

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

My grandma's husband has a keyboard that plays and sounds like a good piano. Most keyboards I've used have strange, clunky keys that drive me crazy and just feel.... wrong

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Weighted let’s which feel like a piano are EXPENSIVE

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And that keyboard IS crazy expensive. I could literally trade it for a car.
