Will they will start the experiment in Disney World with the Piss/Shit Pass? Hate waiting for the ride to the hershey highway? Get that fast pass ready or Goofy will personally block you from being able to relieve yourself while telling you to go hyuck yourself!
Everyone had their own shìt to deal with. It would clutter our homes, our minds. Until one day, the government said, give me your shìt, your sewage. I'll take care of it.....but it will cost you....
Don't forget that even in ancient times some powerful people made some dumb capitalistic decisions. Ex. Emperor Vespasian who had the genius idea of paid public toilets in ancient Rome and his famous quote when criticized, "Money does not smell."
A lot of these things -- in the UK at least -- were built by rich asshats trying to buy some good karma and their place in history after getting rich doing abhorrent things.
It was a more modern (at the time) version of paying for a church, or chantry.
The dark ages are exactly what happens when evil humans gain power. They snuff out the light of learning to keep it. And it takes generations to fix it.
The “Dark Ages” actually saw major expansions in literacy and quite a number of inventions. They weren’t very dark, and to the degree they were, it had little to do with evil humans seizing power.
...and fire departments, and freeways/road networks. We'd still have police, as fascists always need an enforcement/punishment squad to keep the serfs/slaves in line.
A city in Ontario is built on high elevation. The sewage line runs downhill throughout the entire city. That sewage spins a turbine and generates power for the city. Hamilton, Ontario
No they're not though things can still be weird. For example my home place in Romania only got a sewer system in the last decade. And a lot of people that I know there opposed the "EU overreach", fearing for their septic-tank autonomy. Mainly because of FUD from who knows where. But most of them came around quickly when they realized they didn't have to do the waste management, where most of them literally shovelled their own shit from the outhouse to the tank, themselves anymore.
I'm not really sure what this is supposed to mean. You mean other countries lack sewage infrastructure? Or do you mean the free market think tanks part? Either way I'm not really sure what it has to do with the post.

Not that free markets actually exist anywhere. Which is kinda good, but no competitive industry suffers from them currently.
harribobs
you've not heard of the UK's water system then?
themikep
civil infrastructure and free markets can exist in the same economy, folks
BaddyOneShoe
Don't give them ideas! I can just see Disney buying all public utilities and turning them into subscription services. With ads somehow.

had to drain the shit well enough for the think tank spewing it to be able to hear them instead of them drowing in it.... sadly, we listened.

Wikipedia article was interesting. The collapse of societal complexity as a description of the fall of Rome was intriguing.

The "dark ages" are a myth told by victorians.

The tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa, isn’t hooked to a sewage system. They truck it out daily.

I believe this was true even it opened and for several years, but did get fixed in the end.

not 'fake,' rather "artificial, expensive, and resource-intensive"
