I have all kinds of tritium tubes, and even a few tritium exit signs. The glass tubes are fascinating by nature, and are very dim, but visible in the dark to night adapted eyes. The picture of the watch face is pretty misleading. This isn't my watch, but these pictures are always taken with the camera settings cranked up to catch as much light as possible

Similar principle but less hazardous to health, since tritium doesn't emit gamma radiation.

I'm a retired jeweler who started work in 1975, but I don't recall ever having seen a radium watch dial. It's very dangerous stuff though and that's why it's outlawed. If you want to know more, look up “Radium Girls”, the horrific story about the young women who worked on radium jewelry and watches. They even made a movie about it

Pretty sure all the old Timex wristwatches, Westclox & Elgin pocket watches, cheap off-brand "waterproof" fake diver's watches, etc. were radium dial back in the 60s when I was a kid. Didn't know there was any other kind that glowed in the dark. Maybe I've been wrong all this time. I dunno. I specifically recall seeing the words "radium dial" on them though.
