Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly

Id like to say im a great rider and that it was conditions or a mechanical fault that caused the accident. Ultimately it was me. I couldve gone a little slower.

I think i lost traction in a corner and slid wide. The rear tire hitting the embankment causing the quad to rotate toward the embankment. Once the front tires made contact they wouldve climbed it putting me on course with a one night stand with the tree.

Didnt seem like any combination of brakes, throttle, or steering were affecting my trajectory. I glanced off the tree and began to roll. The quad and i stayed together through two rolls before we separated and it continuing to roll a couple more times down the trail.

400lbs of metal and plastic impacting my spine crushing my body. The safety gear doing what it was designed to do spread the impact over a large area limiting the damage to me.

I thought to myself as the quad flipped off of me is this is it. This is where and how i die.

Hopefully i can take it apart and salvage it once i have recovered. My 2006 Yamaha Banshee.....or whats left of it. Bought her new and had taken great care of her.

Wear your safety gear! Alpine star kindney belt and roost guard, Msr helmet, and my backpack are what kept this from being the end of my story.

3am struggling to stay awake. Everytime I'd fall asleep a dr would enter the room and ask questions. Surprisingly i wasnt given any real pain medication besides Tylenol. Lets just say Tylenol didnt do anything to limit my pain. Too much fear of creating addicts and the lawsuits that accompany them is my guess.

Covered just 30 miles. Took 2hrs for a truck to reach our location and extract me. The ride out was brutal, every bump rattling my body and shifting my broken bones.

2 hr drive to the emergency room.

Thankful for the care i received and the urgency of the staff. I can tell you that its not like the tv series you like to watch. Being moved between stretchers and beds to x ray tables and ct scanners is very painful.

I should make a full recovery but the future will tell what side effects will linger.

I am terrified of the emails that will be coming this week and the amounts for my care they will be demanding i pay.

This comes at a bad time as ive already racked up huge bills from diagnostic work from my various cancers.

Tomorrow is another day and ill take them one at a time.

Addendum: this is a cautionary tail, not a brag of cheating death. This accident had the potential to change others lives. If i had encountered someone traveling the other direction both our lives wouldve changed for the worse. Someones son/daughter/father/mother couldve been taken away.
