If we're bringing up anti-fascist quotes from great writers, here's George Orwell: "When I joined the militia I had promised myself to kill one Fascist — after all, if each of us killed one they would soon be extinct." Quoted in its historical context, of course.
Nothing pisses off a conservative more than finding out that a new-age ideology they hate is actually older than they are. Relatedly: the first transgender advocacy group was founded in 1897.
Germany was banking on the US becoming more isolated, a pre-war trend we were on. The president wanted to help but he knew he lacked the political backing. Perl Harbor was one of multiple targets hit that day. Hawaii was not a state yet, but they chose it to drive public opinion to join the war. And we did, we went full tilt. WW2 killed the New Deal, industry was not going to help unless it was rolled back.
No one listens, they never do. The only thing we got right was ending the Monopolies because they feared social uprising like what was happening in Europe and the New Deal. Two times that people listened and took action. Both rare and beautiful unicorns of history.
If you aren't anti-capitalist you aren't anti-fascist.
Please, people, learn the origins of the antifascist movement and read the ideological theory that founded it. It is rooted in anarchist-communist ideology. For the love of God, please just fucking educate yourselves.
I think this is well-intentioned but misguided. Remember that the OG fascism was defeated in the main by a coalition comprising of a colonial empire, a capitalist union that still had racial segregation in many states and a Stalinist dictatorship. Broad coalitions win, and we need all the help we can get.
"Short answer? Yes. Long answer? My beliefs probably fall somewhere between Anarcho Communist and Democratic Socialist for the same reasons we were taught in school that federalists and anti-federalist positions were debated. You have to realize this also works the other way around. People who became fascists once they understood fascism and love all the things fascism wants, like deporting/killing people. For you and me, 'fascist' might be a derogatory term, but for 77 million Americans it's a compliment. Trumps approval ratings are rising when it comes to immigration policies and where the country is going.
Yeah sorry I forgot to mention: Trump is up in almost every poll EXCEPT "economy". But what worries me is Trumps approval ratings about things like immigration. The majority of Americans actually like him doing a culture war against 'woke' and leftists. The majority of Americans like him deporting and killing "illegal" immigrants. To me it indicates the majority of Americans are actually fascists, but they would like to have a bit more money.
I don't disagree with your sentiment at all. The American zeitgeist is inherently right wing; we are a militaristic hegemony awash with birthright hierarchies wrapped up in the pageantry of determinism. And that's beside all of the endemic racism, sexism, and religion. But as Americans receive the bill in full (October insurance premiums) polls will begin to sour on Trump yugely. The question is whether we already live in a country where that just doesn't fucking matter whatsoever.
So ww1 wasn't really about fascism.. it was because some royal schmuck got unalived by some terrorist group called the black hand. There really wasn't a good reason for ww1.

such a great book, highly recommend.

Weirdly I just finished it yesterday - it really was good! A lot of concerning parallels with current events.

I’m a big EH fan. This book was difficult because I wasn’t in a facist timeline when I read it.

Frankly if you're a communist and you're not anti-fascist you're suicidal.

My grandfather and his brother’s were all decorated for killing Nazis in Africa, Italy and France. It’s a family tradition

Who would have thought that nazis are now taking over the USA.. At least you can continue the family tradition close to home.. /s

Propoganda was heavy then, too. It took US soldiers finally seeing concentration camps to believe it.
People forget that the US was turning a blind eye until Pearl Harbor

Crazy fact: Canada declared war on Japan before the US did.

We're racing toward a cliff: https://www.healthsystemtracker.org/brief/individual-market-insurers-requesting-largest-premium-increases-in-more-than-5-years/ October is when next year's Premiums are typically announced. If Congress doesn't act (lol), *everyone's* monthly Premiums are going to skyrocket. It's why Schumer and Jeffries are threatening a shutdown with all the force of a rusty Yield sign.
