No heal, only tax

This is a point I try to make all the time. Republicans and Libertarians are idiots and fail to comprehend that because of sales taxes incorporated into prices, UDMWs add a shit ton to this economy, and that's before including that they do the jobs that pay shit that no one else wants to do.
hotaru251
TBF...i'd support paying illegal immigrants than our own Congress at this point...atleast those immigrants aren't gonna get paid for nothing.

Health care is a human right no matter where you come from or where you choose to live The fact that we have to have this argument in the first place is stupid

California becomes first US state to offer inclusive health insurance to qualified undocumented migrants, undocumented immigrants are taxpayers and pay $11.6 billion in state and local taxes alone billion per year.

Anyone have a list of terms that changes depending on political party? Example is illegal immigrant verses of documentary worker, etc.?

I appreciate that message, and I fully agree... but there has to be a better way to "meme" it. I could barely read #1. I feel like it might be easier to get that message out if it didn't give people with forms of dyslexia a headache. I don't mean that sarcastically or mean, I'm just exhausted by the bright headlights shining through my windshield and rear view mirror and I got home and tried to read this because I'm genuinely interested and then had a breakdown.

Look, you ain't taking anything away from me that I want, come on over my babies. And if you are taking something from me, well, tough shit for me, I'll find something else. Whatever you got that I didn't that was a me problem, maybe I should learn to interview better. Come get a slice. You ain't hurting me.

But thats socialist immigrant communism, not in my backyard!

Every economy has space for unskilled labor. The reason people hop the border is because there's work available for them. People who are employed make the economy function.
The only reason the right wing hates "immigration" is because they hate brown people.

Can we get the cliff notes? the people we're trying to explain this TO aren't big on reading.

The actual title:"California, trying to make sure people who live here have medical care, like a first world country."

News reports are saying there were 220,000 undocumented immigrants last month. At that rate that's over 2.5-M per year (2,500,000) and 5-M in two years. That's a lot of housing. When housing is tight. Meanwhile, wall street investment companies are snapping up housing. Some real estate investment corps own thousands of units. One reportedly owned 18,000 units but I don't know if they were apartments, condos &/or single family homes.

When did the people leaching off the system become productive members of society? This is bullshit, this destroys my paradigms and that upsets my conservative values. Im going to abuse something innocent so i feel better. Look what you make me do!

I welcome all to America and am so grateful for all my immigrant neighbors, documented or not.

Here's the thing. Even if the original headline was completely true, I'd still be ok with my tax dollars going to help other humans in need, because I'm not an evil, selfish, immortal ghoul.

Well said

So if they are getting healthcare on the tax payer's dime but they are also themselves tax payers, Why is the attitude that they are freeloading? There mere fact they pay taxes into the system means they are contributing to the system.
Daraanel
Because some people want a target to vent against, and ethnicity is an easy target. As is citizenship - if you're a citizen, fine. If not, then you're 'other', and are a valid target.
applesforjuice
You said almost the same thing as I did, but you blamed the people who have been manipulated and lied to since they were born, rather than the people who manipulate and lie to those people. You're literally helping the people who create this struggle. Yeah intolerant people are bad but 99% wouldn't be intolerant if they weren't told to, you're fighting against exactly who the people in power want you to fight.
applesforjuice
Because (purposely) it's incredibly difficult to understand what benefits any people are getting, what undocumented people pay/receive, and how any of us are affected by it because we will never be given information for free, anything we are told is designed to change our vote one way or the other. Everyone should have healthcare but even citizens paying for it don't so it's easy to present the data in a way that turns people against undocumented people
Coreation
Question because I don't know, how does one be "undocumented" and still contribute in tax?
AntaNce
Withholding taxes that cannot be refunded because these people cannot file tax returns, sales tax, taxes on gasoline and other fuels etc.
maeta
How many dozens of ways are you taxed and aren't even thinking about it?

By working in the US and using an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number instead of a SSN or using an “expired” SSN from a prior immigration status. By buying things and paying sales tax. Paying property or city taxes. Etc.
Ovenproof
Also real question. If it is so profitable why do NO other first world countries allow undocumented people?
00110001001001111010000110110110011
There are undocumented immigrants in each country. There’s estimates saying that there’s between 20.000 and 500.000 undocumented immigrants in Canada.
OptimisticMisanthrope
Well, that's just a completely incorrect statement. Most developed countries have large amounts of undocumented immigrants living in their borders. The U.S. isn't even estimated to have the largest number of undocumented individuals nor the highest percentage of realtive total population.
sneye
We are a country completely made up of immigrants, sooooo
ionicseraph
Whatever one's individual status is, does not and cannot detract from what they deserve as a human right. Does a paramedic or fireman ask someone if they're undocumented before saving them?
stsword
Don't give the republicans ideas.
spamsmells
No, that happens in the ER. There comes a time during a patient’s stay that a hospital rep will ask them how services are going to be paid for. Generally, the hospital will bill them if they have no insurance but will eventually write it off if they have no means or intention to pay. I’ve seen people rack up hundreds of thousands of dollars and not pay a cent.
KentKnifen
Another fun fact: Undocumented people don't have the right to representation when they're in court facing deportation. No, it's actually not because they're not citizens, it's because the federal government deporting someone is "a civil matter" and not criminal prosecution, even though deportation is effectively a death sentence for some people. This is very much intentional and by design. It's no accident that they're not given representation.
PobbitBreakers
I use to work in boston. A lot of immigrant laborers, this is actually a double edge sword. Yes a small margin of illegal immigrants damn well deserve to be sent back for things that occured there or crimes here. Most immigrants are decent folks and have work ethic. But a lot are traumatized and scared and lost. Then you have predators, they need to target the predators.
PobbitBreakers
And a lot them that dont invest in the american dream actually live 5-20 to a house or apartment building like a rooming house they work full time, they send money home every pay day to help family, they tend to be gregarious and social when they like you. Ive worked with people from mexico, brazil, portugal, ecuador, venezuela, Columbia, Chile, Ireland, Australia, China, India, and people from all over the states doing construction/excavation.

I have an SSN with a boring old legal student visa, not a work one, not a green card or citizenship. Have used it legally for work, paid all that tax.
KinetoPlay
Well for starters everyone pays sales tax and fuel taxes and the like.
internetmexican
The Congressional Budget Office has done several reports on this, that would be the best place to start, the first one they released was as far back as 2007. Also you don't need an SSN, you can also use an ITIN like father does. I myself have always had an SSN despite being Undocumented, it simply read "not valid for employment" until 2012 when I got DACA then it read "Valid for employment with permission from DHS"
stsword
It's estimated that undocumented workers using fake or someone else's social security numbers contributed around 13 billion dollars to the social security fund. Money that they of course will never get benefits from.
Whatwhatsomethingbutt
Not all taxes are tied to SSNs - take for example, sales tax. If they know the size of the population they can extrapolate spending from a representative sample or compare to similar demographics to get a reasonable ballpark answer. The AIC would also tell you they pay property taxes, and at least 50% file taxes using ITINs. I'd venture to guess there's also SSN sharing in families. https://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/research/adding-billions-tax-dollars-paid-undocumented-immigrants

Journalism died the same day the networks grabbed their ankles so that the military would embed their during in the second Iraq war
likeanenglishlady
Anyone who can't separate journalism from for-profit news programming is furthering the erosion of public's trust in real journalists, many of whom are dying on the job. Mocking and criticizing journalists is fascism. Don't be part of the problem.

So optimistic. "You furnish the pictures and I'll furnish the war." - William Randolph Hearst, before the Spanish-American War
ToSisPoS
Fair point. My J school profs rightly called Hearst the worst villain of journalism.
It was 1999 of course, things rapidly changed shortly thereafter.

Network television is pure shit, from CNN, CNBC to fox, they're all whoring themselves out to advertisers and other special interests… PBS is the sole intelligent news source on non-streaming TV, the fact that it's not on the networks is telling.
Leithoa
Media has always been the mouthpiece of power.
ToSisPoS
It is. However once upon a a time Journalism and Media were not synonymous.
Leithoa
When was that? From the first papers until now only the rich had the ability to circulate papers and pamphlets. Publications & broadcast have always been used to shape public opinion. To start wars, to sell things, to spread ideas that benefit those in power. "Good Journalism" is the exception not the rule.
ToSisPoS
The definintions as given: Journalism: "The production and distribution of reports on the interaction of events, facts, ideas, and people" and not Media: "publications and broadcast."
zHurk777
Journalism died probably because of reagan administration policies/laws that allowed large corps to buy up the media: radio, TV, newspapers.

Reagan vetoed the Fairness Doctrine. It wouldn't have stopped cable outlets like Fox, but would have still applied to general broadcasting channels and kept news sources for many Americans more balanced. It may have shown the stark contrast between more balanced reporting and cable propaganda.
