Man, if the denizens of imgur were capable of any action beyond large scale vote manipulation on a social media platform they killed by driving away most of it's prior visitors, something would ABSOLUTELY be done about those data centers with this list!
Please, 70-90% will NOT get built and that is before and without any local opposition making it impossible.
Because, they are taking longer then anyone imagined (because those announcing them are morons with no idea how complex they are actually to build), they will not get gas turbines in time, they will not see demand increasing in time, their customers will be bancrupt before they are finished, or, last but not least, the entire bubble has burst already before they can switch them on in 2030
What I'm not seeing on the site is how they know the data center is specifically for AI? Short of a press release from a company how would you know? Ex, it lists the Microsoft data center in Quincy but that's been there for years so while part of the complex may be dedicated to AI it's been a server farm for longer.
They've got completely different demand requirements on the grid, that's why we care about them and not the old datacentres.
AI datacentres are primarily data processing- massive amounts of power and cooling required.
Traditional datacentres are primarily data storage- much less power draw is possible but also it's much less likely to ever hit 100% like an AI datacentre will regularly, bits will turn on and off and remain much smoother and less spiky (fewer spikes in power price).
I mean yes. Tech ically your Google cloud photos (if you're dumb enough to use their cloud) and rhis very website has to sit in some data center somewhere as well. So AI is not the only use of a data center.
Likewise. However the data centers in that location are generally geared around speedy internet traffic, which is generally a different purpose than AI, which is all about processing power not so much data speed. So I could see it being possible - there may actually be very few AI-oriented data centers there, especially due to some of the headwinds (tax rates and land prices; e.g. some data center land recently sold for $6M an acre, for just raw land.)

A site built with AI talking about data center locations.
RooGryphon
so targeting data, understood as to what to do with this information

Dam b a shame if there were additional hardware casualties and the corps didn't feel comfy hiding their ai processing in other existing data centers

Yes, they have the Lawrence Livermore National Lab on here and that’s a far cry from the data centers I’m against

I’m honestly surprised Ashburn, VA, what’s essentially world capital of data centers isn’t highlighted more.
CallMeCourierSix
Are they AI data centers, or regular ones? Because this is focusing on AI.
stayingalive4life
Hmmm…good question. But you would think with the high concentration of data centers, there would be more likelihood of AI data centers also.

If I could make a movie recommendation, unrelated but in the same vein.

I'm trying so hard to turn this into a flirtatious encounter but I might have died inside a bit too much fkdkdnen... Lovely to c u anyway 😘
BiVoidRat
I got you cutie 😘
Wouldn't it be romantic if we kissed in a warm embrace bathed in the light of a burning AI datacenter? 🫣

Thanks for the link. Little clunky to use, the search parameters were not what I hoped for. No option to search by state was disappointing.

I don’t think op made the site…

Which is funny, because their entire post was about being bored, yet not bored enough to provide their source.
