This is Alex. Her full name is Alexander the Great. Shortly after I moved into my first apartment, I found her on the street as a kitten, hiding in the doorway of a car dealership in the middle of the night. I tossed a shirt over her and brought her home. She had a flea collar on that was choking her.
She was so small she slept inside my boot that night. She barfed in it the next morning to say thank you. She's grown up to be very cute.
Look at that little face.
I'm allergic to cats, so I didn't intend to keep her. I decided I needed to call her something though, and the way she sticks out her fluffy little chest when she sat on my window reminded me of a greek statue. So I called her Alexander the Great. I didn't check if she was a boy or not for a few days after that.
Of the many cat's I've lived with over my life, she's got the best temperament. When she was a year old, she got an infection in her eyes that left her with pretty bad vision. She's still a total sweetheart though.
She's been my stalwart companion through hard times. Fights with my girlfriend, unemployment, tough nights as an EMT, deaths in the family, my father's brain injury. She was always there waiting for me at the door. She'll come when you call and is always down to snuggle.
Even when we lost our home, my girlfriend and I always looked after her. She's been everywhere with us.
I mentioned she's always down for a snuggle. She also likes to burrow under covers to stay cozy.
She'll walk over to you and ask for attention whenever. She's a very social critter. She grew up small, the vet says because of how malnourished she was before we found her. We say she's the size of a chicken nugget.
She's been on a cross country road trip. Pretty big adventure for a mostly blind indoor cat.
Alexander the Great, Pretzel Queen. My best friend.
My weird girl cat with her boy name and her sparkly dog collar (her info is on a little pink bone)
Her favorite hobby: sitting in stuff.
Like the slow cooker on the floor of my filthy bachelor pad. I've improved my cleaning habits since those days, thankfully.
Staying at a friend's during one of those rough times. She's the only cat that's used that cat tree correctly.
This is her just a few days ago with her favorite toy: an unfinished scarf part she stole from my girlfriend. She's sick and the vet's not sure what's wrong. I just took on nearly a thousand dollars in debt to get her checked out, and I get her blood work back in the morning. I take care of my father full time right now and our only income is from my girlfriend, but she's worth everything to us.
She's no older then 10. I don't want to lose her just yet.
Anyway. That's Alex. She's the best chicken nugget in the whole world.
Take good care of your pets, friends.
Edit- As suggested, I started a GoFundMe for her:

Double Edit- Bloodwork came back from the lab with 90% good news! Alex should be ok in the long run. The only casualty appears to have been my credit.
I want to thank everyone so much for the kind words about our dorky little Princess. I told her how much you guys liked her, but all she did was honk at me and go back to sleep.
Once she's feeling better I'll put together some ~glamour shots~ of her to pay Imgur back for it's support. I'm open to suggestions.

I paid about $3000 in vet bills for one of my cats, which I had to put it on credit. It was worth every cent and I've never regretted it 1/2

If you spread the cost over the number of years they have been with you, it's not much in comparison to the joy they bring (IMHO)

What was wrong with her @OP?
Kuhullan
No clear diagnosis yet. Some protein in the urine, but no appreciable kidney damage. Vet says she should be ok with some rest and time.
Kuhullan
We'll be taking her back for some more tests next week if her improvement stops.

Hang in there Alex. I'd donate for sure if I weren't broke AF and struggling to pay for my own cat's care. :/
Kuhullan
Well then as two broke dudes we'll make a deal. I'll take the best care of Alex I can, and you take the best care of yours. :D

Word. Got a co-worker who is losing a cat right now as well. Entropy and inevitable death are kicking my ass lately. Be well.
