Looking to restore this old plane
Just picked up this old plane at an antique mall yesterday. Has the blade and frog. I want to restore it so it's clean, smooth and functional. Any tips?

Search Paul Sellers. Wood will be easier to tune up than steel.

If you want to reuse the block, I would get a sharp cornered sanding block. Otherwise you could replace it, looks like a 2x4

Don't do the clean and smooth, that will kill the value. But definitely sharpen the blade and make it functional again.

still, it can make a decent price as a decorative piece. it would look like a new one from wallmart when you restore it

Incorrect. It will gain value as a functional and usable tool. Functional tools have more value than shitty ones.

Old hand tools usually need tuning to work properly. That includes rust removal and smoothing. It isn't just "making it pretty".
