#13 Narcissists are personally responsible for the vast majority of all human suffering throughout history.
Being in a relationship with one gives you a front row seat as to how it happens.

#4 look little me shits gonna suck real bad for a bit then be ok then suck in diffrent ways I cant explain in a way you will understand. End result you be hyper independent and seek no help from those around you BUT you will still need help you just wont be able to bring yourself to ask. All of your connections will be surface level at best and you'll mostly feel isolated as the world moves around you. Setting it all down will bring a diffrent outcome. For better or worse I can not say.
ShereeAnderson
I’m some of these.

#1 literally thousands of dollars in therapy and a fuckin meme articulates the problem with my father

#8 This, from both sides. I've known people who needed more than I had to give. It doesn't mean I didn't care about them. I truly hope they found what they needed, as I look for someone who needs what I have to give.

In the third panel, it looks like the bald guy's head is disconnected from the rest of his body.
AyatollahBahloni
I've always noticed that and it weirds me out but it's a great cartoon anyway.
JeezusJuice
It is. The idea being presented is that you must rip the heads off of emotional men after luring them close with comforting words. We have to kill empathy! It’s the greatest sin, after all.

One of the core lessons I have learned in life is that you can pull yourself towards something (usually a good thing) or you can push yourself away from something (usually a bad thing). Both will move you the same amount, but the place you go will be quite different.
I always try to pull myself towards good things instead of just trying to get away from bad things.

#40 this was in both of our vows, as we repeat it every time a problem needs attention.

#1 Did the first one of those with my mother these past five years. People kept praising me about how hard it must have been, but it just felt like caring for a dog (in the sense that you love them and want to see them safe and happy). It felt natural.

#42 - The likelihood of a system to malfunction is proportional to the complexity of that system. The human brain, as determined by the human brain, is the most complex thing in the known universe.
The fact that any of us have anything approaching a "working" model at any point is the most common, under appreciated miracle in the modern world. The fact that some brains need intervention to get closer to that miraculous point isn't shameful - it's inevitable.
Store bought is perfectly fine.

What about people who change their names? They're naming themselves, no?
JeezusJuice
No. The brain is naming its carrier.
JeezusJuice
I don’t have much to say on it, but I’ve been thinking about brain vs self and the origin of thought quite a bit lately.
SinStar87
Makes it sound like the brain is working against science to maintain it's mystery. heh.
Sechran
In this case I think it's less subconscious conspiracy, and more trying to measure a ruler. With nothing but the ruler you're trying to measure to measure with.
SinStar87
yea, just funny how it comes off as menace driven. 'damn they're close to figuring me out, stroke time!'
JeezusJuice
Even when you make a system of nothing but binary switches across a single control plane. The positive and negative of a single switch being incorrectly wired would have terrible consequences. And not all failures are so obvious! Imagine there some short in one of the switches on the far right side of the control plane that’s somehow dependent on a switch on the far left, and some switch in the middle being on causes a short in the system. It happens ALL THE TIME in things we make and can make
JeezusJuice
near perfect sense of, and we think it can’t happen with a system more complex than the most complex human designs? Only someone clinging desperately to the concept of an infallible creator, in the hopes their professed belief will save them from hellfire, could believe such a thing, eh? :(

I've only gotten to the first 10 so far and I've have my lifepoints attacked directly more times than I ever have before in a single post :(

I can't make it through this song without becoming a weepy mess. It reminds me of how my childhood fell apart when my parents divorced and how I later swore I'd never let that happen to my own kids but then was powerless to stop it when it did.
