It's a small thing, but I got a water proof watch as a kid and got to watch as people freak out as I washed my hands.

I did that too. I remember purposely making sure their eyes were pointed my way before I got it wet. At times submerging it lol. I really haven’t grown up much since then and that was over 50 years ago.

Those were DUKWs, World War Ii-era amphibious transports. They had them in Seattle last time I was there too.

The Seattle “Ride the Ducks” tours closed down several years ago, don’t recall exactly why but I believe it was due to safety reasons

Just looked it up, “safety reasons” is one way to put it: one of the vehicles lost control when driving on the highway (later found to be due to lack of proper maintenance) and collided head-on with a charter bus, killing 5 and injuring several more. The company never financially recovered.

Still...this was like 20-30 years ago...or longer...so this is nothing all that new or unique really...and certainly nothing unique to Japan...
