Going to give my director one last chance to be honest with me about the long-range plan, and what their expectations are.
It's super risky because it will definitely signal that I'm not happy, and they might term my contract immediately. It'll also demonstrate that I'm not willing to bend over backward for a job.
I'm not desperate. I'll find another job as soon as I want one, honestly. What I do.... not a lot of people can do it. At least I've got that going for me.

They will continue to screw you (and others) as long as you allow it to happen. Call them out on the bluff, but have another position in reserve first.

If they wanted to get rid of you they won’t wait for you to express your feelings. It’s not as much as a risk you think it is. Unless they plan to downsize, you’re gonna leave a position they have to recruit, hire and train someone.

if the pay wasn't shit I probably wouldn't give a fuck, but it's like half of what I'm supposed to get when I get hired in off the contract, which was initially supposed to be in October, then moved to January because they'd have more budget, then July for whatever reason.

So they're baiting you with direct hire. Yeah, sounds like looking for a new job is in the cards. I wouldn't bother with "giving the director one last chance". Look for a different job on the down low, quit when get the formal offer.
