It's my 9th Cakeday with you glorious bastards apparently so here is one of the first things I ever favourited (not the first as I still don't know how to repost an entire image dump). I can attest to the recipe though, I have tried it, it's absolutely amaze-balls.

Cat tax, Sylvie hard at work making some biscuits for me. Note her eye is fine, she had a little scratch which is why she's got it squeezed shut.

Super chill kitty.

Anyway, it's been rad y'all. I'll probably still be here in another 9 years lol.

and i choose that dude wife..

I'm looking for that clip of a dragon saying that she just shed and is showing her leg to her friend, saying 'Becky, feel'. Feels appropriate to the post.

Skeptical as I once washed my body with lava soap and took me a damn week to recover. O.o

If you're gonna bother with this, please just exfoliate before shaving. You're making tiny abrasions in your skin by shaving, then rubbing oil & sugar into those abrasions increases the risk of infection and ingrown hairs. If you want, wash & rinse the skin you will shave, get out, sugar scrub, rinse, shave with cream or conditioner, wash & rinse again. Pat excess water off & moisturize. I ain't got the patience, but there you go.

Can do the same thing with baking soda. And baking soda won't feed sugar to bad bacteria on your skin causing yeast infections and what-not. Hell, for a while I experimented with digging up some dirt, nuking in the microwave for a bit and using it as a mud scrub in the bath. Ancient cultures used to go down to the river, rinse down, then grab handfuls of silt, mud, sand and rub themselves down to get clean. Then rinse off. What we're doing today is trying to find a replacement for that 1/

mechanical action that exfoliates without stripping away oils or damaging the skin. Sugar and body scrubs are ok. Sandy mud that's been sanitized would be best, but our septic systems are not designed to carry a bunch of sand, mud and silt./

Happy Cake Day! And for anyone who is wondering, this sugar scrub thing is legit.

For most folks that have never exfoliated, first thing you can try is just taking a baking soda shower. Just put like 2 tbsp of baking soda in a plastic cup or dish, and take it into the shower with you. Rinse off first, then fill the cup/dish with water to make a dilute baking soda water. Pour it all over you. Rub it all over. Let it sit for a minute or so. Then rinse off. It will break down dead skin. I was suffering from seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp and skin.. basically issue causing 1/

dandruff on my scalp started up on my cheeks. The skin would dry, crack, then get greasy, itchy. Dermatologist wanted me to use a steroid cream for the rest of my life. I looked into the issue, and it's caused by skin drying out, then bacteria getting into the cracked skin and feeding on the oils, causing an itchy redness to fester up under dead dry skin. Someone said baking soda nukes the dead skin off, so I tried it. First time I did I had a lot of dead skin come off my face, scalp, etc. 2/

Got out of the shower, dried off. Had soft, nice skin after, and the redness/ itchiness cleared up in a day or so. I started doing baking soda showers once a week after that. What I realized was that soap over-dried my skin in the shower. I'd get out and dry off, but the skin would over-dry and crack, letting bacteria get in. I tried moisturzing, but skin was already damaged. The baking soda got rid of the dead skin, and I cut down on how much soap I was using, basically just using shampoo on 3/

hair and using suds to do pits, crotch, etc, and rinsing it immediatley. Letting soap sit on the scalp / skin while shaving or what-not just meant it was drying and damaging the skin. So, I changed my whole shower routine. Haven't had seborrheic dermatitis ever since. No need for steroid creams. Our shower routines of long, hot showers and tons of soap on everything just leaves us with dry skin that we're then trying to hyper-moisturize to make up for./

After you exfoliate, you gots to MOISTURIZE everything you used that sugar scrub on! Otherwise that skin will get hella dried out real fast. Plus, it makes you even softer, for longer ;)

2 years ago | Likes 153 Dislikes 1

You don't even need to buy lotion. Just smear on some coconut oil.

2 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Just remember to do it AFTER you get out of the tub or you may discover why that spider in the bath meme exists yourself.

You’ve been using moisturiser to say softer for longer? And here I am doing it with nothing, like a sucker.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Does it work for face shaving?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I was told not to exfoliate/use a sugar scrub on an area that i just shaved moments before, but that's because shaving does the same job (removing surface level skin), and sugar scrub on top of that could be brutal. But you could try & see how it goes!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Face skin is really sensitive, and sugar can irritate.. but finer sugar might be fine. I'll try tomorrow and report back.

I'm curious about this myself now and want this update

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You don't need to - and imo shouldn't - use a razor for this. You want an edge, but not a razor's edge, if that makes sense. A scraper, not a cutter. This technique is actually Roman. They'd apply oil before sauna, and it would lift dead skin and dirt that they'd then scrape off with a tool called a strigil. The sugar probably just acts as an abrasive? Anyway, as others have said, yes - moisturize afterwards.

2 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 0

I think they wouldn't rinse? Just oil and scrape. Bonus: look like Arnoldus Schwarzeneggus afterwards.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Would a luffa work?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What sort of a tool do you recommend instead of the razor? Would a loofah be fine?

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Don't use a loofah, the sugar will get stuck in it and it'll get nasty as hell. You want to scrape the dead skin off, my sister always used the back side of a cheap ass 99c barber comb but the other reply with the plastic butter knife is good too. Another option would be a spatula, I know, weird, or a cheap PLASTIC ice scraper. Plastic. Do not use one that is not plastic. No metal. Metal bad. Use plastic. Point the 'blade' opposite the direction you drag so you don't dig holes.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I wonder if a plastic razorblade would work?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, that's to some extent exactly what they're made for.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used to use a plastic gift card that I had trimmed. One end into a half circle, simple mitre cut on the other corners.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I'm really not sure about a loofah. I imagine it'd work, but I'd be worried about all the gunk and sugar especially getting trapped inside. There are commercially available products available called "body planes", but I haven't tried them. I'm a neanderthal, and just use a cheap butter knife that I blunted with increasing grits of sandpaper to the appropriate edge; enough to scrape, but not to cut or break the skin.

What the fuck...

I'm sorry but I gotta say it... Spread that body budduh

Cool tip, I definitely would prefer to use something I already have, and I do have a butter knife and sandpaper!
