The guy who owned the farm stole the labor of his underpaid worker, the food manufacturer stole the labor of his underpaid assembly line food workers, etc. whether the food product gets stolen by a hungry person at the end of the chain of exploitation is the least of our worries

Both sides of this argument are valid.
Stealing the food from one person because you are struggling, can mean that now that store owner might end up struggling.
And the Farmers who grew is very much are struggling right now, so they need the flow of goods to keep generating money.
Or else they will not be able to afford to grow anything, then everyone is going to find themselves going hungry.

Everyone has to eat.
And most stores pass lost goods costs onto their workers.
So stealing to survive helps the one starving, but it can result in the people working trying to make enough to not starve end up having to steal as well to get by. Which is why I said both sides are valid, because everyone is just trying to make sure they have food.
