Hmmm I'd rather own a place and pay for that stuff once in a while than only being able to save pennies a month because rent is shit

His argument is valid, but the conclusions drawn are highly questionable.

I can see how it might sound that way if you didn't realize rent was a thing.

I could definitely not handle home ownership. But it's absurd seeing my rent go another $200 up when they aren't even doing a good job.

Yeah but if you are paying 3k or 5k those are likely one time expenses against 10k in rental income annually. Never met a poor landlord

House I was renting a few years back needed a new roof. The cost was equal to almost 2 years gross rent. Not poor, but not Bezos either.

I understand roofs can be expensive. Fortunately, they don't have to be replaced every 2 years.

Has a point, and while I can do some things on my house, doing electrical and plumbing could wreck it or resale value so I hire a pro.

Unless you live in a shed, it's best to hire someone. And landlords have to that anyway.

You genuinely believe that renters have "all the leverage"?

Not at all. However repairs have to be done by professionals and to code when you have renters. No chance for insurance otherwise and legal

those damn renters have the choice of where to go, or even if they WANT an apartment when there are perfectly good un-occupied trash cans /s
