Wow, just wow! Received something so special today!

This is the Commodore Amiga 500 I built from scratch. For the Amigas I built by myself I wanted to use the best Tech available today. The Apollo Vampire Accelerator Card!
Some History:
The Commodore Amiga was invented at the company Hi-Toro which soon was acquired by Commodore. There the Cornerstone for the best Personal Computer of the 80s and early 90s was set! The Commodore Amiga Line of Computers was built upon the Motorola 680x0 CPU. This line of CPUs includes the 68000, 68010, 020, 030, 040 and the last was the 68060 which was quite an impressive CPU for this time. But was it truly the last 680x0 CPU?

The Apollo Vampire Accelerator is the answer to the above! Since development of the 68000 Series ended with the 68060 Processor in the mid 90s, there's a gap of some decades to bring the Amiga Computers in reach of todays workloads.
The Apollo Team filled this gap with their FPGA based 68080 Processor Design which not only offers a higher clock rate but many modern features of todays Designs. The Vampire is a complete Set of Features including the CPU, 128MB of RAM, HD Graphics, Mass Storage Devices and more!

But hey, what's that? These come in black usually! This is something like one of a kind and I cannot thank Igor Majstorovic enough for this very special Card! My first Vampire which I received last month didn't work as expected, maybe it was damaged during shipping. Igor, the maker of these Cards offered to look over it so I sent it back to him. The moment he received it he mentioned that currently he didn't have enough time to inspect but he would send me something special in exchange. And this is it!

Even a Keyring :) This is so great!

This is the Card itself with its Altera Cyclone FPGA which is the heart of the card. SD-Card, JTAG, Network and HD Video Interface. Above the Vampire Logo you see the 44 Pin IDE Interface.

Thats the moment of truth, CPU and Kickstart ROM are detached and the Vampire is inserted into the processor socket. It includes its own kickstart so the one on the mainboard can be spared.

Lucky me using low Profile Capacitors around the CPU Socket! It fits nice and snug ;)

The whole Computer with: RPi HDMI Out for the original Chipset Graphics (green with ribbon cable) Above that there's the new power supply (also green with red switch) which delivers more than enough power! On the top-right, the Gotek USB Drive (with ribbon cable) on the bottom right the Compact Flash Device and the Chip-Ram Extension. The Ribbon Cable for the CF goes directly to the main actor, the red Vampire Card!

First Test with Frontier the main Burn In Test for Accelerator Cards. This Intro is quite a Task for the Amiga with its vector graphics. The Vampire does this for breakfast!

Boot Process, my son drew a heart on my hand, seriously thought I had cured my hand when I watched this first...
