Don’t know about the soil there but that’s gotta be a mucky mess.

Lakes be laking.

They'll be fine, until they run out of weed.

I'm sure they can afford to have someone air drop the Starbucks and cocaine they need to get through this.
PicassoCT
Oh, those poor millionaires playing hippies.. sad face. Nod.
Laylah77
Just read of a fatality.
ISeeMusicInYourEyes
UK summer music festival goers be like 'why don't they just put on their wellies and ponchos? Duh!'
wobblecopterrrr
It’s like baby powder, like a foot or two deep some places, its gotta be like pancake batter, the worst port would be the portos, getting to em’ would be bad enough, but I read they can’t get the trucks to empty them.. nightmare…
DanCoopersTie
yes the portos is the main downside.
EaNasirsExcellentHighGradeCopper
Does it stick to your boots like yeti shit?
AntaNce
Used to camp north of Black Rock as a young. The caliche can be 6-10 feet deep, & it's SNOT when wet. THIS is the quicksand you worry about.

The playa is greasy and sticky when it gets wet, especially against the rubber tires. Big things aren't going to go very far. Some little 4x4 vehicles have made it out.

Lmao, it’s 6 miles from the highway and Chris Rock (age 57) already walked out. Calm the fuck down.
TacticoolWolf
Yeah that's cool for a celeb who probably has a limo waiting for him. but what about everyone else who drove in? Even if they walk 6 miles to the highway, then what? Wait for a cab?
distraingotnobrakes
I’m pretty sure that the hundreds of people who organized this multimillion dollar event can figure out how to wrangle charter busses and avoid a humanitarian disaster on the formerly dry lake bed.
daranthered
There is no soil on the Black Rock. Just Playa. Cars have sunk into it completely and have never been found again.

Translated: Ration your weed, man!
NVGoddesscottage
Broken and sprained ankles from trying to get to the portapotties. DONT MOVE is because you will end up buried to your axles if you attempt to drive on it.

That's gonna be like Wacken only worse
cuttysark
climate change at its worst

Oh no! Anyway, where was I...
Volpe42
All these people complaining about wanting water, well now their complaints have been answered, all at once.
PWBoiler
Burning Man is a “mucky mess” even without the rain.
shaggynuts78
Fyre fest came early this year.
Penth13f
So... a regular festival?
LetOffSomeSteam
Someone did die, but they haven’t said how yet
DUser01
They will enjoy the mud. Few will be out there in nothing but mud.
JARNSB
Can't light a burning man on fire with mud.
Frothington
They'll be fine until the shitters are all full.
CobraCommander1981
Merry Christmas...

When dry it hardens like sandstone, wet it is like potters clay, but more adhesive. A vehicle with mud tires could probably navigate, but once it dries, those tracks will be insurmountable by lower clearance vehicles. All vehicles are sinking, even sitting still. People should roll their vehicles onto wood or at least fabric so they don't set in place when it dries or the art installation could be a 40,000 vehicle Cadillac Ranch. (Tech Bro RV ranch).
PineappleLoopsBroether
Fuck dude, I thought you were talking about all the poop, until half way through your comment.
gesel
That's a much better interpretation! I'm going with that now.
gesel
Plus someone is having some disinformation fun, injecting ebola stories through the Qtards. That's some bold BS, the troll armies have to be testing gullibility extremes, but dang, that's funny.
bytemypixel
I wanted to go to burning man when I was younger. Now the corporate money has got in there it's a mockery of what it once was. We need a new "burning man" and we need to protect it from the bullshit. Have it be the hedonistic lunatic asylum it was. No big money, no corporate bullshit. Keep this current one for the posers, the influencers and the assholes.
milolin
What media didn't tell you about the 10 principles of Burning Man. One of them is Radical Self-reliance. Burners will be fine at the playa for any weathers. I went to Burning Man 2005, it was wonderful experience. I won't be surprise if there are so many "influencers" going there this year, and didn't follow the 10 principles, they are screw up!
milolin
And, in the history of Burning Man, every time heavy wet weather, national news always pick it up for some reason. Nothing new to us.
DanCoopersTie
Here is what is going on without the media hype https://burningman.org/event/wetplaya2023/
NotStephanie
Sounds super sensible to me. I figure they can always chopper food, water, or emergency stuff if it comes to that.
DanCoopersTie
Everyone should have brought extra food for such events. There will be plenty. And with the gifting culture there, those with food will give food to those who don't. Just like all the free bars and meals usually are.
