I've seen a lot of posts about this kind of situation yesterday and today (Sunday, Father's Day in the US). My mother never twigged on that I cut her out of my life because of the way she acted when Penny died, not because Penny died. I understand, although my story isn't as sad as some.
It's interesting that Father's Day is during Pride Month.
There are also just those parents who are clueless.
My best to all you just working to get through today and this week. I've seen a lot of people step up as surrogate fathers on here. That's lovely, and I admire it. I'm not really the father type, but if you need a weird uncle that the rest of the family doesn't like to talk about or just humors at best, I've got you, fam.

The horrible fact is our parents are just people, and so are we

The best we could do is tell our kids we are here for them. No matter what they’re going through. Did we fail? Yes. Did they fail? Yes. Still here. No matter what.

Also when confronted they say things like, "I did the best I could at the time...." If that is true then that excuse explains a lot about them as a person. A narcissist never accepts blame; you were the cause for all of their actions....

I never confronted my parents about it. I figured it wouldn't do any good. Damage done. And they're both long gone, now, so it's all in the past. It's on me to try and work through the damage and fix what I can.

All power to you, my friend.
