No... there's just something in my eye, I swear.
Keru
Yo, don't fucking use this shit, he took the actual message of Bill Watterson and recut it to mean "QUIT YOUR JOB OR YOU'RE SHIT". Protip.
TheAccursedHamster
I dunno... this seems incredibly up its own ass.
slinkiisu
This... is a lot like Calvin and Hobbes in style.

This is so true, every place I have worked if you do not join in all of the excesses of the office and just do your work and go home then1/2
you are not a team player or "not part of the team" 2/2

Watterson has written about the "truckloads" of money Universal Syndicate could have made on licensing C&H, and had legal rights to.

- Bill Watterson, incredibly successful artist.
Suzuran42
But the "incredibly successful" part came -after- the hard parts, not before.

The comic itself was drawn by the creator of Zen Pencils, but his comics are usually illustrating others' quotes. So the advice itself is →
→ from the creator of C&H.
ShrubNinja
The thing that really burns me about this comic is that the quote doesn't even remotely match the comic. Bill is talking about how it's (1)
okay to be satisfied with your position in life, and that if you're happy then that's what matters, not "quit your job and become an artist"
lottiedoowop
This will always get my upvote.
fozzibab
I was wondering why it was drawn like Watterson's work but now I know

But what do you do when your crappy job is all you have, and you have no better opportunities, nor any dreams/ambitions?
Tsalvo
Breathe, smile, be patient, keep looking. Its there, it will find you. And when it does, life will be a whole lot more fun!
mordain23
if you have no ambition, congrats you made it to the top.
ikindafail
Network? Every job I've ever got was because I knew someone that worked there. Otherwise, keep looking for better jobs or opportunities?

Here's the answer to the age-old question: what if Calvin's parents had done more hand stuff that one time?
I dunno, I imagine they were trying for a child rather than an accident, but I might very well be wrong
Trying or not, if they could have just avoided Calvin, Suzie might have had such a nice neighbor/ classmate/ implied love interest....
aintno1gottime4that
Don't settle for something that will cause you sacrifice your family, beliefs, convictions. Plenty of ways to be able to have both.
DojoHero
This is too true. Live your life how you want and achieve your goals.

zen pencils is easily the cringiest comic creator i've seen in a while, hiding behind a positive message and a ripped-off art style.
every comic this guy makes is some naive, overly-simplistic world view that comes off both as preachy and incredible smug
There's even a comic of his where the message is to "not let others tell you how to live," as he's telling you how to live.
This guy has zero self-awareness when it comes to how fucking dumb his comics are, and I hate seeing them on imgur so damn often.
Dwerioc
YES. Thank you.

This particular comic is telling people to literally throw away their source of meaningful income because they want to feel fulfilled >

This speaks to me. I spent 10 years working towards the job I have now. My boss's boss's boss asked where I wanted to be in 5 years 1/x.
He was baffled as I said, "Probably right here. I'm happy doing the job I have." Especially when he sees his department turnover as 2/
Upgrades and promotions. Oddly enough it is a hard job with a lot of pressure from above. But it is easy to track performance. 3/
And too many people crack. I'm probably going to be one of the few hold out for a career where I am. End/
Ringshadow
This bugs me because it seems like his workplace was awesome. FFS his boss came after him. In what reality does that still happen?
HypnoChanger
Yeah, seriously. The workplace looks pretty friendly and relaxed with a boss who was apparently concerned enough to help him try to find 1/
new work. This is the problem with Zen Pencils; they heavily push that being happy in a nice workplace is wrong just because.
buttsGameVoter
For some people they can't be satisfied unless their work intrinsically motivates them. Lacking that can be truly excruciating.
voulge
I mean, ya gotta know when you don't like your job and don't want to do it if it detracts from other parts of life you do enjoy.
Meltemi
Sometimes, you've a good boss and bad coworkers. Sometimes, both are good but the stress of the work itself is awful. Hard to say in 1 page.
Prices law: If there are 100 employees, only 10 will account for 50% of the work. He was a worker. That make him valuable.

Right? Designing ads for Auto makers is literally my dream job.

Yes, if you're good at what you do. And just because you have a job that seems awesome to others it doesn't mean you find it fulfilling.
FallingStar7669
You can have amazing co-workers, but your job is unfulfilling, even insulting. I've been blessed/cursed by that twice.
ellert0
Most people are seriously poor workers. If a good worker quits you can be sure his boss will be coming after him.
alpaccagawd6666
Probably just tired of the job, if you want to really create but are limited it drains you

I quit my job yesterday in order to be true to myself. It was a hard decision but I’m glad I did it. This post hits me in the feels.

My last day at my job is this Tuesday. It went against everything in me because my whole life has come to rotate around working up to 1/2
75 or more hours a week sometimes and being treated like literal human garbage that I don’t deserve this and I don’t need to destroy myself.
FAAAAAAAAAACK
very close to making the same decision ... there 2 years, no advancement ops, micromanaged to the extreme, boss is rude & inconsiderate etc
I made the same leap. The feeling of relief is incredible. It came down to that being unemployed for a short time is worth not working there
IronicJeremyIrons
How do you do that? I'm going to be leaving my job in a month or so and I have no idea what to do or say
If you know this far in advance for sure and your bosses aren't asshats, let them know professionally. Google resignation letters. 1/2
If your bosses are asshats and you feel like they'd fire you for giving a month of notice, then give as little notice as allowed. 2/2

I quit my warehouse job two months ago to pursue a dream with my wife... We started recording our album of original music last week.
