Freddie loved cats Mercury had a real-life devotion to his cats

When Mercury toured with Queen, he would have someone care for the animals, and Mercury would call often to check in. “He’d get to a hotel, we’d dial through, and talk to his cats.”

Mercury had a total of 10 cats—the rest named Dorothy, Tiffany, Tom, Jerry, Delilah, Goliath, Lily, Miko, Oscar and Romeo . “His cats were his family,” Freddie treated the cats like his own children

In one of his final interviews, Mercury said that he had included in his will Austin and his cats “I’m leaving it all to Mary and the cats.”

The members of Queen collaborated with David Bowie, who is also known as a cat lover, to create Under Pressure.

While Freddie had homes across the world, all the cats lived in this Garden Lodge, and he spent most of his time there.

Mercury got custom-made for him a vest adorned with images of each of his cats.

Each cat got its own Christmas stocking filled with treats and toys. They had full run of the house and were permitted outside during the day to roam the gardens. Their unconditional love gave him great comfort and company in his final days, and Mercury would never deny them admittance to his bedroom.

He felt that cats were much more independent than dogs.

"Delilah" is a song Mercury penned for his favourite female tortoiseshell cat named Delilah. "You make me smile when I’m just about to cry"

They also appear in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. The last six of whom outlived their owner. Mercury shared the two of the cats with Mary Austin, a romantic partner he once referred to as his common-law wife. The rest were adopted from shelters or animal hospitals.
