y ´all thing the studios really want to bleed the writers dry before starting to "negotiate" ?

I usually yell “Cobain”. He didn’t miss his last shot.

I'm still surprised we expect art appreciation from salesmen...

3 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 0

I'd classify studio execs as not just salesmen, but shady used car salesmen.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You know, it doesn't HAVE to be a fucking tax write off. We can change that so it doesn't count.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Poor Final Space....

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Final Space managed to re-secure rights to self-publish a comic book hardback in order to wrap up the story which should come out some time next year though. It's not much but it's something. As much as I loved Final Space, the 2nd and 3rd seasons were too sloppy and too slow, he could have easily published a great series in the time he had but feels like he was hoping out for 5 seasons and a movie with how hard the story hit the breaks and slowed down after season 1.

If you haven't watched Pantheon, it's extremely worth your time. :) Sci-fi with some hard body horror. Animated, but definitely for adults. Should've been a 'live action' show imho.

* A team of heroes plunge into the Disney volcano and pull out Nimona at the last second *

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is that what happened? We almost didn’t get Nimona as a movie??? WHAT

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. Merger between companies, and it was almost written off because Disney said, of ALL the things "eh, too gay."

Can someone explain this "tax write off" thing to my foreign friend ?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Basically publishers found that they could take a series that they had the rights to claim it was a "Failed product" and thus write it off so they wouldn't have to pay taxes on it, and would thus, get free money out of it. The end result is the IP itself basically ends up in purgatory, where no one, no where, ever, not even the original creator, is allowed to make money on it, because it's declared "Failed product", all because some guy wanted to squeeze blood out of a rock for an small bonus.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Which is such a shame, because it means no other studio can pick the project up for a new series, no one can reboot or rerelease it, streaming services have to take it down. Even if you bought a copy of it to watch on Amazon Prime, it gets removed and you can no longer watch it, particularly eggregious in the modern era where physical media like DVD's basically don't exist. It basically erases the show from existence in order to make back a quick cash.

I'm gonna miss westworld. Like, ya, it went downhill very fast but I enjoyed the mystery and characters anyway.

3 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

I loved every second of it. The park got bigger in every season. There was only two ways to go in season 5 and they deprived us of it.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I saw the first real world season w Aaron Paul. It was still intriguing

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aaron Paul didn't bring his Breaking Bad chops in that one though.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm just watching that now. I watched the first two seasons when it was current but fell off. Very keen to get to the 3rd and 4th.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Personally, I enjoyed the whole thing and wished it could have gotten it's last season.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Megas XLR became a tax write off so there's no legal way to have a sequel or game etc even though it made money and was popular

3 years ago | Likes 224 Dislikes 1

i MEAN THERE IS, YOU PAY THE TAX BACK

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

CAPS unintentional ny fuck it I'm leaving it

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The execs at the time really hated that it was doing well, annoyingly.

3 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 0

Fill me in why being a tax write off means they couldn't make a more? Likw they wont i know but wouldn't think that they would be stopped?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe it should become law that IP written off like this is instantly made public domain

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even tho WE. LOVE. GIANT ROBOTS.

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

You! Dig giant robots

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I don’t know enough about what happens to an ip with this, but why couldn’t someone buy the rights for a sequel from whoever ended up with them?

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

From what I can tell, they can't. Because it is a write off, CN is not allowed to make any money off of the IP, which means they can't sell the rights, and they cannot even sell DVDs or toys using the IP. They will not give up the rights either, since they can't get anything out of that, and if it does well, they would be competing against it

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They probably can! Except the company won't sell it because owning IP is more important than using IP, and DEFINITELY more important that letting someone else profit off the IP even though you aren't using it. Because capitalism is just as shit as every other system because the problem is actually those with the power.

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Same with Sym-Bionic Titan. So many questions left unanswered. It was a Tartakovsky show, too....

3 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Sym-Bionic Titan, Megas XLR and Motorcity i feel are the 3 shows that were killed before given a real chance.

3 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Teen Titans had 4 seasons and was canceled on a cliffhanger.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger, more like a downer.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oh, and Mission Hill. I've been watching the series on YouTube again, this time with commentary from the DVD.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This artist does funny porn

3 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 85

Thanks for the tip

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This does not deserve to be downvoted. Probably should have used "amusing" instead of "funny". No miss-reading that way.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you don't enjoy an artists work just because they've done furry porn then buddy, there are a lot of artists you won't enjoy because that shit pays bills.

Maybe they just wanted to direct people to find new porn?

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

IK,R? I don't understand all the downvotes.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I like how everyone admits their kink while not realizing he said funny not furry

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

... and?

3 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 1

Reread, they said funny not furry, its not a complaint. I misread it too

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks, ill be checking it out!

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Cool, thanks!

3 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Cool another one in my list!

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That's disgusting. What specific website do they post on so I can avoid it? And do they have a patreon, you know so I can avoid it.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Artist gotta have a Hussle to make extra cash

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Reread, they said funny. And checking their comment history, I think it was a recommendation not a criticism

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Whoops, thought it said Furry. U right

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is this supposed to be a warning? Or a recommendation?

3 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Judging by their comment history, looks like a recommendation. Shame about all the downvotes.

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Y'all can stop downvoting. Or continue I guess, if you're mad at someone for being into furry porn. Check their comment history, or just think for a second why they would know that.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They said funny. I misread it too.

RIP Batgirl.

Hey if Jimmy C's trainwreck managed to drag itself to the surface, there's still hope.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they can receive tens of millions of dollars on tax write offs because they made an oopsie then they should be required to release the written off material into the public domain and lose the rights

3 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 0

As a Belgian, I'm very annoyed at that one, since it was directed by Adil & Bilal. But also as a Belgian, I can't do much more about it than huff and puff and cross my arms a bit.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

PANTHEON!!!!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We talkin' the CW show?

3 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

No, that's Batwoman. A show I wish would be thrown in a volcano

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The movie they made (all done except for some reshoots and post-production work) but deleted from their servers rather than finish and release it. It's assumed to be for the tax write off, but the napkin math doesn't really work out. Canceling the Batgirl movie saves them maybe $20-30 million in taxes, a drop in the bucket compared to the debt they have from the merger ($3 billion). It's more likely part of a strategic shift or a desire to do a hard reboot of the DC movies than about the money.

3 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

They also memory-holed content that had been done and released for years worth a fraction of what Batgirl is/was/could be. It's easy to say the math doesn't make sense for a single item, but they purged a TON of content. Kind of like deleting a ton of small folders to make space in a HD. It's not much individually, but all together it starts to add up

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Ah, I see. That's a shame, but yeah, DC is all over the place right now so it figures. With any luck, some jaded WB employee secretly saved it and will someday leak it years from now.

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

We can hope. The creators said it was heartbreaking checking the storage folders for the movie and finding them all empty. The decision was also so sudden all of them got kinda caught by surprise.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Ironically, Batgirl made on a small budget had a much better prospect of making them a profit than all the big-budget troubled actor stuff they did release that all bombed horribly.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I mean, they'd already spent around $90 million and likely would have spent another 20-30 to finish it. It was planned to be exclusive to HBO max as well, and not get a traditional theater release, so it's very questionable how much profit it would actually bring in. All the streaming companies are revisiting their financial equations for streaming content.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

iirc it was, the same as blue beetle, originally planned for Max and then bumped up to a theatrical release before it was cancelled. 110-130 is cheap for a theatrical movie and would have needed a lot less box office to profit compared to 200mil flops like black adam or flash and it didn't have anyone like Ezra Miller generating bad press for it.

Rely wanted to see Firefly . Don't think I've ever seen that character in love action

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I'm sure you could find some love action stuff with her in certain corners of the Internet with a little bit of searching.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Firefly was gonna be played by Brendan Fraser. Won't even take long. Dude gets mad love

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oops, I meant "him", not "her". Not sure why I brain farted there, haha.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On Gotham Firefly was a woman so I figured that's what you meant

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They were on Gotham, gender swapped I believe, but they were there. I would have loved the see Brendan Fraser have a go at it though

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Lady Firefly, protege of the original Firefly.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does she get more than one season?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, she's in several episodes every season from her first appearance onwards.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Must've missed her. Didn't watch the show religiously. But BD Wong as Strange and Anthony Carrigan as Zsasz were great
