#1 Absolutely true. Create a garden with lots off wildflowers and herbs. They need much less water, if any (depending on region), no pesticides, and will attract insects and therefore birds. A win-win-win situation!

Just took 3 days off work to weed and plant the front flower garden and dig out a new vegetable plot in the back. Need to wait for slightly warmer weather before planting the veggies. Looking forward to beans, corn, and squash.

Orchids are tropical so the freezing water can damage the roots. Try the soak method using room temp water :)

yeah, which is why Roman dramas don't have all the statuary and buildings in bright garish colors - while we have evidence that they were once painted that color, we're so used to bare stone and those palettes aren't aesthetically pleasing to modern eyes that it'd look weird.

There's also evidence that when painted, they looked a lot like the papier mache you only seem to make right after you get done with the finger painting years, and never again, unless you do a lot of art classes in high school.

There are ways you can get closer to authentic without the cost of being properly authentic. Filing a barnyard with heritage bred Cornish chickens is expensive, but getting a bunch of young modern hybrid Cornish hens is much cheaper. It's not exactly authentic but it's better than a bunch of Rhode Island Reds and Wyandot Sebrights.

I don't remember the context, but I remember seeing modern orange (instead of purple/red/yellow) carrots in supposedly medieval times.
The orange carrot was created by Dutch growers. There is pictorial evidence that the orange carrot existed at least in 512 AD, but it is probable that it was not a stable variety until the Dutch bred the cultivar termed the "Long Orange" at the start of the 18th century.
