Explanation: The Death Korps of Krieg is the name given to all of the Astra Militarum regiments that originate from the devastated, post-atomic Death World of Krieg in the Segmentum Tempestus. They are most commonly deployed in the war zones of the Segmentum Tempestus and Segmentum Solar and are particularly skilled at attritional trench warfare, sieges of and assaults upon heavily fortified static positions and warfare in extreme environments known for their biological, chemical and radioactive hazards.
Fun Fact: White Dwarf 509, pgs. 59-60 states that the Krieg are given numbers upon birth, where as Imperial Armour Volume Twelve - The Fall of Orpheus, pg.96 states that the Krieg gain their number, and lose their original name, when enlisting in the Astra Militarum. (This is a point of some conflict/disagreement)

Vitae womb, and....yes, technically, but there's some hints at other stuff going on on top of even that going back to the tales of Jurgen in the novel Krieg. He's definitely got his own store-brand Mengele on staff.

It doesn't hide that it is grim dark. However, if you want books that lean into comedy and are considerably less grim dark, I suggest the Ciaphas Cain books from Sandy Mitchell, the ork books from Mike Brooks, or the various T'au books from Phil Kelly, like the Farsight trilogy and Shadowsun. There is also the (arguably) most popular and very fun/funny book, The Infinite and The Divine by Robert Rath.

Well, Even the Death Guards of Krieg can be a lot of fun! Don't you see the Whimsical Joy of riding a battle horse while holding a lance with an explosive charge on top trying to destroy a tank? They smile a lot under the gasmask, indeed!
