What is this fish?

Found it in some culvert runoff over the snow in our yard, can't identify it. We are in central Alberta. I'll probably put it back somewhere, but shits frozen yo.

Looks like a curmilliins harshback! very rare to be north of kansas... source: masters degree in fishology at the university of cowfeces

Looks like a paler coloured Brook Stickleback (Culaea inconstans). I think I can see hints of the spines in the photo.

Yeah it has small spines so I figured walleye but it doesn't look like a walleye. I will cross reference your suggestion, thanks!
