Me: Certainly. Now, what _exactly_ are you looking for from roleplaying? Do you want high fantasy adventures? Gritty dungeon crawls? Tolkienesque saga? Do you just use D&D because you heard about it and don't know any other RPGs but would prefer to play in the Star Wars universe? Or Star Trek? Want to play PIs in a world of vampires and werewolves? Or 1920s socialites?
Because as a responsible GM, there is one thing that I will never ever inflict on you, and that's start you off with D&D.
Even here in Europe, where we usually do not get crazy work schedule changes or terrible job security, we got a harder time keeping our weekly game going just because: adulthood happened. Some got caught by the opposite gender and then forced to procreate. Little crotch goblins can really ruin your D&D experience. /s
And then tons of people always cancel last minute or postpone and postpone and won't commit to anything, and then wonder why nobody wants to play with them.
Been fighting to get my play group together for the past couple months, we plan for a day then the week of something comes up and a player can't make it. Truly the greatest threat any dnd party will ever face.
We have a fairly big group, seven people, but we meet every Thursday for at least 3-4 hours. Yeah, sometimes something comes up and one or two can't make it (we all have jobs, families, some have kids...) but seems to work ok.
Ran a game for 2 yrs. 2 players really enthusiastic the other 2 not so much. The latter 2 drained my inspiration to play so I stopped running it. There was already another year or 2 of gaming left but lost the will to run it.
I GM'ed for a group for like 4-5 yrs, and just got sick of it from 1 player that constantly actively tried to derail everything. We're starting a new campaign where everyone is a good guy? He wants to go rob a bank. We're starting a new gritty crime drama where they're cops? He wants to go shoot-up a mall. Every campaign just became ad-lib ad nauseum to cater to this d-bag dragging everyone around after his misfortune.
We had a player kinda like that. He wanted to play a video game where he did quests for a guild. DM let him have his guild and quests. One sheet of quests, roll a d30. He was stuck on that for months, until those of us who didn't give a shit about the guild were able to wrangle the plot and force him back into the game.
They should’ve split the D&D movie into two parts and then everyone in the theater would have to figure out a date and time they all could meet again to finish it.
I still think they should have killed off a character, then had the same actor come back to play a new character that the party meets under strange and coincidental circumstances.

There's lots of d&d on discord, including asynchronous or play at own pace

ooof! try play-by-post folks, it works

It worked a lot better before end stage capitalism took full root

I mean, modern D&D isn't that bad... But considering all your options first isn't a bad idea.

So run short?

I have a group that plays regularly 2-3 nights/week and most players are able to make most games. Each week attendance is confirmed 2 days in advance.

We had the same problem... As the enthusiastic (and new) player I was eager for each session, the others not so much.

I like how accurate the movie was to the feel of the game- but that's a little too real

Should've killed off a central character played by someone constantly and brought them back as a new character every act.
AgamemnonsMemes
Actors should have been randomly replaced throughout the movie because all the actors couldn't get together at the same time

Astramancer
With the new character wearing an obviously fake mustache for like 3 scenes after which it disappears.

Named the same thing with 'jr' on the end
