Trump lost in 2020 and I can't believe that his support has increased since then, given that he's spent his time since 2020 insulting women, anyone who isn't white, and a lot of his former allies. I know some people will vote for him no matter what, but I have to imagine he's turned away at least 10-20% of his former supporters with his sheer inability to keep his foot out of his mouth.
Here is hoping enough republicans realize the disastrous possibilities of Trump getting the-elected and come out to help us be rid of this man and his cult.
I think you’re naively underestimating Trump’s appeal and the voracious support he has from his followers. Didn’t we learn that lesson in 2016? A lot has changed since then, yes, but it’s dangerous to underestimate the appeal of fascism to those who feel lost and out of control in their lives.
A lot of independents are going to vote for Trump because things got more expensive in the past four years. This was always going to make things more difficult for Democrats and a big part of why things are so close.
That very much is their top aim. Makes everything much easier for them. Trying to steal the election via state legislatures and just outright ignoring what their own people voted for is a nuclear option. One I'm still not convinced they go through with even if they lose, because if it doesn't work, they will be standing out in the cold with no clothes on. It would be so brazen an attempt at a coup that they'll have no defense for it other than, "We thought we could get away with it".
I am hopeful (and voted already), but between underhanded tactics like burning ballot boxes, throwing away mail in ballots, and the obscenely stupid lawsuits, it's going to be close. It would be great to be spectacularly wrong and get a solid blue country. Not just for the president but for the reps.
Australia gettin' ready to watch the next season of America, the reality tv show. I know more about American politics than I know about Australian Parliament, but our Parliament is dull and boring, biggest scandal recently is the Prime Minister asking for a seat upgrade from Qantas CEO. America's politics is like a new season of House of Cards but without the wit and subtlety
Nah, the American voters are going to do the right thing. It’s the Republican elected officials and judges you have to worry about.
Harris is going to win, but if she doesn’t win by a large margin, Republicans are going to overturn the election, crown Trump, and invoke the Insurrection Act to imprison and kill everybody who protests it.
I heard an interview where a young guy said he will vote for Trump because he doesn't want a woman to be president and because Trump is so manly and strong. And I can't decide which is more fuckin stupid.
I'm not a single issue voter by any means, but If I fully believed it, that would be the only necessary deciding factor. Mind you the Four Years of Store Brand Tang are also more than enough.
I’d drink store brand Tang. He’s like if you ordered EmergenC from a really, really unregulated supplements supplier and it comes in gallon buckets and the flavor is SUPER CITRUS BLASTER or some shit.
Yes like most of history its been done before. What is scary is that when the Third Reich came to power the balance of the world was not truly ever with it bit look how close they came. The problem is that Trump plus Putin plus China means that Western democracy will be overpowered and the new dark ages will come. Yikes!
Is he twelve? Does he still think girls have cooties? I can't even begin to wrap my brain around this. There's still a day and a half left. You ask him why he'd vote for a criminal traitor rapist over a woman. You ask him if he's afraid Kamala will give the White House cooties, if you need to. You tell him about the word "misogyny". You give him a wake-up slap in the face.
I mean... seriously. That isn't even a political stance. He's ignoring ALL the politics because of her gender. That's misogynistic as all heck, is what that is. Which, of course, is right up the MAGAts' alley. I'd normally agree with the rest and say to cut him off now, but at this point I am going to push for even the chance that he's not THAT stupid and can be snapped out of it in time to vote.
... seriously... "can't vote for girl because not girl" caveman logic...
A tangental friend is voting for Trump because he's the burn down the system type not realizing Trump won't burn it down, he'll just make it a whole lot worse with no recourse for us besides open revolt.
Thats it pretty much. I want to be able to tell him. Part of me thinks theres a good person who's just been brainwashed. Another part of me wonders if its just an act and he really is just selfish and evil.
The fact that they're misogynistic in not voting for a "girl" kinda says all that needs to be said really. I'm sorry, it's terminal, your friend is a dipshit.
Yup, that's pretty much how I lost all my friends...... They'd all rather hang with a deadbeat with no job and who lives with his girlfriends mom while she watches the kids all day and he plays online and posts racists memes in discord while his gf works at the family dollar.
I had a friend with whom we once laughed so hard over something dumb that one of us actually passed out for a moment from lack of breath and faceplanted on the carpet, getting rug burn on his forehead. This, of course, made us all laugh even harder - I'm surprised no one died that night. He's also the person who introduced me to imgur.
Anyway one day he mentioned that he voted for Trump due to supporting some anti-trans laws. I'm a furry. We have lots of trans people.
My best friend of 20 years went MAGA and after I made one attempt to convince him otherwise he blocked me. We haven't talked since. His roommate was BI and my partner is Pan. I'm pretty sure he got mad when I told him that he would literally be voting for people who claims those two very important people to us shouldn't exist. I miss him sometimes but otherwise I don't regret it...
The only bad things about Kamala are the lies Trump spreads. For him to not like Kamala, he has to be believing Trumps lies. And why believe Trump if you don’t like him?
Trump isn't the only one spewing the lies they're everywhere especially for people who get news primarily through social media or have a work/friend circle that's largely right wing
Single issue voters are killing this process. “I get that he’s a serial killer sociopath, but he said a vote for me means you like fries, and I like fries, so…”
Granted in this particular election that single issue might be "do you still want to be a democracy?", so... Bit of an overwhelmingly important single issue, that one.
Single issue voters have been a mainstay for Republican votes for decades now. Long been a problem. Thing is, the abortion thing is coming back to bite them, as we're getting single issue women voters for Democrats now.
I’m more concerned about the Gaza single-issue voters. What does it matter that you had the moral high ground over Harris voters if your vote for Jill Stein split the vote and allowed Trump to win?
Young, non-conservative Muslims are hardly some big voting demographic, though. It's why it was always stupid to suggest Democrats should make some big effort to placate them by throwing Israel under the bus, which would anger the much bigger Jewish voting demographic.
Single issue Gaza Voters are prob some of the dumbest people there is. Like, not only has Trump promised to help Israel genocide even harder. Hes activley asked Netanyahu to not do a ceasefire or hostage trade to help him win. He will be so much worse then Harris and they're happy to let him win for a real shitty false moral standing.
Its like not voting Haris 'cause shes not an avid Trans ally, ignoring Project 2025 making it a crime punishable by death. Oh Wait. Idiots doing that too -.-'
Canada's conservatives are literally just lagged by 5 years. They don't have an original thought in their collective skulls; they just parrot whatever the GOP does, a few years down the road. My province did just oust a conservative Premier who was campaigning on anti-trans rhetoric, so that's nice at least. But then another province just gave a 92% approval rating to a climate change denying nutjob whose entire political career is dismantling public services. So.
You are delusional if you think other countries have gone through what is happening in the USA. Some countries might be following the trend but you guys are far ahead of everyone else.
I dont know man, some of the far right parties in Europe seem pretty damn bad. Republican party is led by Trump, but there's still a non-Trump wing of the party that isn't far right and is keeping them mildly less radical. While far right parties in Europe are just more openly fascist. They still rely on coalitions with more typical conservative parties, but again, that just kind of puts them on the same level as Republicans, doesn't it?
Well, we know it's happened in at least ONE other country before. Jokes aside, our version may be stupider, cause yanno...America...But we are not the first country to give away freedom to a strong man dictator.
As much as I despise my German conservatives, that's way off road. That's the good thing about a multi party democracy: you can have both - disgusting far right fascist Russia lovers, and somewhat less disgusting neoliberal regressive but still democratic conservatives.
Eh, don't underestimate Russian cyber warfare. It doesn't matter whether their intentionally serving putin or not, just as long as their actions lead to a weakening of nato, either as a whole, or the individual countries within. Eventually Putin wants east Germany Back. If that means taking west Germany as well so be it.
And this is why it's so irresponsible to have a man in charge whose morally bankrupt with no interest beyond his own. At least Hitler cared about a Germany, sort of (may he rot). Trump would sell out the US (and NATO along with it) for a harem of underage eastern European sex slaves that look like Ivanka.
